Buying advice? 1970 camaro

The car is not a z/28, rs, or ss. Just a sport coupe but I don't really care because i'll probably hack it up a bit and wouldn't want to do that to a special car anyway. What do you think of the price? I went to look at it, seems solid, little paint bubbling under the rear quarters, Int. in pretty good shape, only 10bolt non-posi rear end. But the best part is the motor, 383. Music to my ears! Seems to run awesome. Tranny has a small leak when it builds pressure and had a 2800 stall, shift nice. Good start or not for the money? 9k is what i'll give. He wants 9,750. The wheels don't come with it either because I don't want em, i'm going to put 20's in rear and 18's or 19's up fronts. Comes with the stock seats also, and the stock hood. Here's some picks. This will be my first camaro but i've been around muscle cars my whole life. Input please.

doesnt seem to bad even though hes taking the wheels and tires i think if he threw those in 9k wouldnt be too bad,,hows the rear rails as they are prone to rust on these years,,there is a 71 near me with a drag theme for 7k ..id bring cash and try to get him down ..seeing cash makes a guy think more..good luck

Get it! That's a fair deal for a running/driving car and it will look sick with 19s and 20s and there's tons of aftermarket support for those.

get it.

Thanks guys! I just emailed him with an offer of 8K, with some junk roller wheels and tires and told him he could keep the stock hood. But I wanted the stock seats as well as the touring cheapo seats he has in it.
Keep the feedback comming please. I don't wanna feel bad about buying it.

Rear frame rails?

There is a spot also just below the windsheild on the drivers side that somebody tried to glass up a rotting spot from a previous leak, kinda crept up into the dash a little also.

Exactly, ya never know till ya ask.

the rear sub frame rails are prone to rot out on 2nd gen cars at least in my area because of road salt getting thrown on them from the rear tires..if its a west coast or southern car you might not have to worry about it..good luck !!

The 2nd gen 70-73 Camaros are my favorite,I would buy it

Tell him to keep that cowl hood if the carb fits under the stocker. Way cleaner!

We bought the 71 plain-jane Camaro for Camaro Performers magazine for $7500 and it had a few tiny rust spots like yours. But it also had a trashed engine (rod knock).. bug a very nice interior and nice'ish wheels (that can be sold)

I would say $9k sounds decent for what you described.
Just remember that whether it's a little rust or a LOT of rust you will still have to eventually repaint the car and that's expensive.

It wont fit under the stock hood, it's just a small 2" cowl, look pretty good, but i do like the clean look also.
Here's a video clip of the car and motor.

12 bolt posi, 4 link coilover narrowed rear end, to fit some 20x12's under it, mini tub. 18's or 19x9 up front, the wheels will be matt black ofcourse! tubular a-arms with coilovers also. Some sort of mesh wheels. Not sure to put a 6 speed or keep this tranny after i get the leak fixed? The peddle is still there from when it was a 4 speed.
I like the split bumpers so i'll probably throw those on. Shave the side marker lights. Get the smaller rear wing if any at all. Ofcourse fix the rust spots and some day paint is a silver or something. Oh, and yeah, it will be ON THE GROUND.
Thanks for the congrats! Stoked to be here!

Congrats on the 70 Camaro purchase!

Congrats on your 2nd gen purchase. Sounds like a resonable price. Your friends 1st Gen looks bad too.
If you need any help let me know, I have a lot of 2nd gen parts.
I own an Auto Restoration & custom shop out in Molalla Oregon.
we are doing a 73 Z/28, 67 camaro convert,(2)69 camaro coupes. One of the 69's is my SEMA project.
I would love to be apart of doing the mods you are talking about to a 2nd gen if you don't have someone lined up yet.

If nothing else to meet more Camaro junkies around here. I have a blown 78 Camaro w/ 6spd, 4 wheel disc, etc, etc.

We did the body mods, body work & paint on a 71 Challenger that is featured in the OCT 07 issue of HOT ROD. We modified the inner & outer rear wheel house panels to clear 14" wide wheels.

I'm buying the car from a young guy in Molalla. I guess his dad has and has had alot of old hotrods. I'm sure you have heard of them maybe? Torri Leftridge I think his last name is?
Anyway, actually PJ Markovich is my childhood friend, Restorations and Reproductions, owner Mike McKennet. If you know those name then you know great work! Problem is PJ getting time to help, I don't like to abuse friends and also hate to have him work on my stuff after hours. He won't take money from me either... But Bill Sluiman will probably be doing the fab work. He's close and does great work. But he has cars lined up also.... I'll have to come check out your shop either way. Would love to check out what you have there anyway. Thanks for the help offer, i'll probably take you up on it sooner or later!
