5 Years Later - It's Not a "new" Project, And Not a New Member Anymore!!!
Good Morning All,
(( Build picture links have been lost in this thread. If you would like to see the pictures you can go to garagescene.net or click this link. http://garagescene.net/index.php?/category/558 )) Thank you again for looking. marty I would like to introduce myself my name is Marty. I have been working on this project for the last couple years. This truck was supposed to be a daily driver as my other Syclone is one of the Ten trucks that Marlboro Cigarettes gave away in a contest in 1991. I purchased a Sonoma GT so I could build it to drive. However with all projects they sometime start with good intentions and then end up on a completely different path. Currently the truck is at the chassis shop having the complete back half redone so we can fit the new tires. 295 45 20. The chassis is going to be set at 6 1/4 in the rear and 5 3/4 in the front at it's lowest point. Front Suspension is by Air Ride and the rear suspension was hand fabricated by Dave at Competition Fabrication ( www.compfab.com ) . The rendering was done by Bob Thrash at Rad Rides by Troy. All of the other idea's have come from me. I have searched the Internet over the last four or five years studying everyone else builds and idea's. I have learned so much from Forums like this and the bad part is it has cost me so much money because I want to emulate most of the idea's that i've seen. The build of this truck is broken down into 24 stages and I hope to have it completed for the 2010 Indy Good Guys. Currently the truck mods include: 18 x 8 & 20 x 10 Billet Specialties Wheels BF Goodrich KDW-2 Tires Currie Aluminum 9" Wilwood Disk Brakes Vintage Air Billet Specialties Serpentine System (wow is this a nice piece) 4.3l All Aluminum Twin Turbo V6 4L80E Transmission Big Stuff 3 w/Trans Controller 8 Point Roll Cage Recovered Factory Interior in Viper Leather and Suede There are so many other mods that I can't even list them all. here are a few pics. http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/album..._05_18_025.jpg http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/...7_8712_IMG.jpg http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/album..._06_24_031.jpg |
I've always been abig fan of the Syclones & Typhoons. Looks like you have a wicked plan.
|
Welcome Marty! :) Cool project you have going on there. What performance/horsepower goals are you shooting for?
|

Thank you We are shooting for 600hp @ 12lbs of boost. My goal is to make a dependable driver which will go the distance on the Power Tour. I want to have fun and not worry about breaking things. |
Looks good, plenty of room for the turbo setup. What size turbos are you using??
Nice truck :) |

Actaully there are two suspension that have been on this truck. The first was set up for 315's however they looked way to small in the wheel opening. The new suspension includes a new back half chassis which is still in the works. I have a couple pics New Rear Suspension as of today http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/...s/IMG_4944.jpg http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/...s/IMG_4947.jpg |

The rear chassis and suspension are finally taking shape. We are also looking to relocate the fuel cell to in front of the rear end and just below the bed lip.

New Panhard Rod Mount - Man is this thing Beefy
http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/...s/IMG_6143.jpg http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/...s/IMG_6147.jpg I almost want to leave the bed floor open http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/...s/IMG_6145.jpg |
well the chassis is almost complete. Should be finished early next week.
http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._08_25_008.jpg here is the new/finished transition between the stock frame and the tube frame http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._08_25_013.jpg http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._08_25_014.jpg The very back of the frame - it should look very nice when you look under the truck all you will see is the rear end. http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._08_25_018.jpg |
Okay moving on to the Cab. We made the mock up side bar for the roll cage. It's the exact same curve as the rear part of the chassis. Were trying to keep the matching themes throught the entire trucks build.

Wow - seats in the truck it's hard to believe. These aren't the actual seats that are going in the truck just and extra set that i have laying around. Which mean's there 4-sale with the door panels for $500.00
http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._08_25_029.jpg Okay moving on to the bed. We actually put the cladding on and it fits. However we are going to remake it fiberglass so i can make it perfect. http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._08_18_001.jpg Oooh the tailgate. Yep it say's Cheverolet -- Not a big deal just as we were planning on smoothing the gate. http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._08_25_004.jpg |
i heard a rumor on stangnet about the progress on your truck..... thanks for making the rest of us look bad :D

I'm very good a packaging an idea and building it. I've broken the truck down into 23 stages and I / we have been building it in a sequence. It has made the build of this truck much easier. If anyone would like a copy of the build docs I would be more then happy to e-mail them a copy (( [email protected] )). |

I love that car over there. I can't wait to start a mustang. I am hoping that by the time i finish this project they will have the new RePop mustang body or cuda shell ready. |
Nice to see another protrucker being built,Marty. What size rear tires are you shooting for? How big a wheel tub?

18 x 8 SLG20 Soft Lip Wheel -- 225/45 18 BFG KDW-2 20 x 10 SLG20 Soft Lip Wheel -- 295/45 20 BFG KDW-2 The tubs were hand made so i am not sure how big they actually are. The one thing i can say for sure is that they are very tall because the trucks sits only 4" off the ground. |
Well the truck is finally back on the ground - Hard to believe. Did i mention that it even rolls and steers
This was the final piece that need to get added to the frame. http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._08_31_043.jpg Picture of the transition between the old frame and the new tube frame. http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._08_31_046.jpg yep it's low - 53" to the top of the roof http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._08_31_041.jpg hay stop looking at my rearend http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._08_31_050.jpg |

Here is the new location of the Master Cylnder. We moved it up as to increase the pedal ratio to 7 to 1 http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._09_15_024.jpg http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._09_15_025.jpg It's hard to see in the picture but the rod is at the highest pedal position http://www.sportmachines.com/albums/..._09_15_029.jpg |
Finished the welding of the roll bar. The rectangular brace in the center is bolted to the chassis.
