Track Day crash...
 

I went to Texas World Speedway this past weekend for some track time. I had a blast running my ZO6 and turbo Miata, but this poor guy didn't have as much fun...

No, he lost it in turn 14 and backed it up into the wall..

I got the tape from home depot.. The red Z has the whole front end, hood, headlights,fenders, bumper & doors clear shield. I put wax on the clear shield, then I tape on top for more protection especially behind the tires.

Yea my girlfriend was working 13 when that happened. Talking to his instructor, "he did everything right, just an unfortunate event." He definitely lost it but wasn't doing anything "crazy" or trying to "hero" it back on track. Car is almost definitely toast.

I was working corner 8 (top of the hill) and spoke with you briefly in grid around lunch. It was very nice finally meeting you and putting a face to a name on the board finally. I hope to get to see more of your collection in the future (primarily the pro-touring muscle cars :) )

P.S. Were you there when the yellow C5 with the Katech LS7 blew the motor in turn 4, igniting the oil on the exhaust and setting it on fire? Car will probably be ok with some panels needing to be replaced due to the fire but overall pretty good job by the EV's to put it out. Motor however is toast (I had a connecting rod for a while but returned it to the owner, and a friend still has one, I'll post pics). Also interesting to see a Porsche GT3 try and give the Wright brothers a run for their money with his amazing 50-60 foot off road adventure that would be the envy of Bo and Luke Duke. Glad your weekend went well with the exception of some spark issues with the turbo go-kart...er Miata...

Thats a good looking Miata. I bet its a handfull with the turbo.

That's why I can't see thrashing and maybe wrecking a 150K camaro around a race track.

A couple year old Z06, or like your Miatta is the smart way to go.

Yes, it's a fun ride. It makes 395rwh on race fuel..I run it at about 290-300rwh..

Ouch !
My buddy was big into track racing.
About 2 years ago he had a brand new Z06 and went off course down into a ditch. After he was towed out and threw his parts into the trunk he headed home with an idea. Needless to say he veered off the road at 60mph into a corn field to "avoid a deer" (couch, couch) and scattered the broken parts around the car. He then called 911. Insurance covered it 100% less his deductable.

Honestly I don't agree with the method used in the post above. If you're going to track your car you should be willing to accept the responsibility and the possibility that things very well could go wrong. Learn to pay for your own mistakes...

Neither do I.
Thats probably why:
A) He "was" into track racing (and isnt anymore)
and...
B) NJ Insurance premiums are highest in the country.

He fixed the car and sold it to a wholesaler.

Instead, all of our rates go up. Somebody balled up his BMW at Road America in "the kink". When I found out he turned it in to insurance it made my blood boil.

As a man once said, "never track a car you can't afford to walk away from". I believe in that statement.

My thought on all this is never risk breaking something you cant afford to fix. Not really if, but WHEN something happens make sure you have the means to fix. I broke my car at the last outing, but I fixed it myself and didn't bitch one bit about breaking it. It happens so expect it :)

Sad thing is from what I had heard, he was planning on putting that car up for sale this past monday and buy a track only car...I'm guessing his plans have changed.
