Who needs a Hot Rod!

Check this out. This is my 2004 GMC 4x4 Extended cab. 5.3 pulling a trailer loaded with parts for the 68.

Before someone tells me how stupid I am, check the tach. I was doing about 35mph, looked down at the speedo and about sh**. Turns out when I shut the truck off it only drops to about 90. Guess it is time to hit the dealership. Gotta love the extended warranty. I don't know, I thought it was a cool pic.

XcYZ 11-14-2007 08:44 PM

I looked at the pic before I read your description and I was like WTH... lol

awr68 11-14-2007 08:44 PM

Man I was about to get on the soap box...but yes it is a cool pic!!

CraigMorrison 11-15-2007 05:30 AM

Here is a good one. I cannot take credit for this and will only say that it is somebody I know who has a similiar car to my 96 Camaro:
:wow:

slenning 11-15-2007 07:27 AM

It would take some real stones to take a picture doing 120 plus pulling a trailer!!! LOL

Maybe a couple years ago! lol I had to do some explaining to the wife when I was posting the picture. She was looking over my shoulder. I still don't know if she believes the explaination. She's been with me long enough to know anything is possible!:unibrow:

Wow you know what weird is that my 2004 Chevy Avalanche with 54,000 miles, Did the same thing like 3 weeks ago now its all the way back to 0 and doesn't move.
Last week though I got a letter from GM stating this problem and that you should take it to the dealer to get fixed and that they will add another 7 year warranty to the instrument cluster.

HRBS 11-15-2007 10:19 AM

Could'a fooled me
I would have guessed you had some crazy low geared OD.
J/K
Nice pic !

That is weird. I havn't got a letter though. Do you have any trouble with the steering or rear end? I've got a little rattle I can feel in the wheel, plus when you turn at slow speeds there is a squeaking sound. The rear limited slip unit is ratcheting hard too. I'm going to have it all looked at when I take it in. My buddy has an 03 sierra 4x4 ext. with 52k on and had the same rear and steering problems I just mentioned. No speedo issue though. Just curious. Thanks.

Intermediate steering shaft. It's a common problem......You never know if they will just re-grease the old one, or put the revised part in. The part number for the revised part is 19153614 per TSB 00-02-35-003M. My '03 GMC has been in 7 or 8 times for this issue. Good luck!!!!!

The rear end lockers are all noisy....and the Dealership should be able to look up the status of the recall on the instrumentation. My letter of recall was written 7/18/07.

I'm buying a Tundra next time.

The speedo is the only problem I have had with the Avalache.
I'm really pleased with it.
I wouldn't buy a tundra after seeing this video

OMG, that Toyota looks like a wet noodle!!

SpeedyV10 11-15-2007 01:08 PM

Those of you that know me know that I mean no disrespect to GM. I am a die-hard GM guy. I have just not had good luck. My first '03 that I bought was a total pile and the dealership bought it back. Although I love the second GMC that I got in '03, it has been through:

(3)-6 disc changers (1 inoperable, 2 with burnt out LED's)
(7, or 8) times regarding the steering hsaft
(1) water pump
(1) window regulator bolts loose
(1) reprogram t-case per bullitin 03-04-21-005
(1)Warranty alignment

Plus several other little rattle/squeaks. It's hard not to be a little upset. I have had work done on this truck EVERY 3000 miles (or every oil change). It now has 35,500 miles on it, and not 1 door ding.

Speedy,

Absolutely NO problem! That is what I love about this site. Things start one way and you never know where it can go. I really appreciate all the info on the truck. It will definately help the conversation with the service writer. I'm sure it will all get taken care of. I'll try to post the results of the service visit. :lateral:

my 03' z71 has been in twice for the steering, and is now doing it again. My speedo does that from time to time, especially when it is cold. ... I am out of warranty and they want to charge me for the fixes. GM replaced my leaf springs once because they squeaked all the time and now two years later it is sqeaking like crazy again, matter fact the whole truck squeaks and I have had on my fathers lift several times and the truck is regularly greased. I am in college, on my college budget, and I cannot afford to have the stuff fixed. My truck has been in 4x4 3 times and has never been in the mud.

Holy sh** those thinngs look like a flying brick! That's impressive as long as it's not on a chassis dyno. I've seen that done before. Anyway if that is on the road---

ccracin 11-16-2007 04:03 PM

I guess you would know if it was possible on the road--I happened to see a sweet 2006 300C SRT 8 here--http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2584316290011691741kIVcJG

Again I Say  :hail:

Nice! I hope you weren't offended by my comments. When I went back and read it just now, I thought crap that doesn't sound good. Anyway, my bad. Do you know if it's stock or has the owner done anything to it? Any idea hoow it felt at that speed? That's really bringing back what the 300's were back in the day.

Later,

rwhite692 11-16-2007 08:01 PM

No offense taken....like I said, the owner will remain nameless. :_paranoid

The car has an intake mod and fan controller, corsa exhaust. but that same top speed is attainable by any stock SRT8...The published max is 168 but a few more MPH can be had before the ECM says "no more".
