The Fairlane heads to the dragstrip on Friday...

Friday I'm running the Fairlane down the 1320 for the first time.. what do you think she will do? Weather shouldn't be too hot.

Here are the specs.. closest guess wins some sort of cheap prize.. lol

1970 Ford Fairlane
408 Stroker (448 rwhp & 404 rwtq)
C4 trans
2800 stall
Strange 9" rear with posi and 3.70 gears
Weight of car 3460 (without driver)
Will run on rear MT ET Streets and front skinnies

Any data I'm missing?

Take your best guess :)

Im going to say 12.1 at 116. I think once you can get that thing rolling it should do some mph.

Jr 11-26-2007 12:16 PM

Who is the pilot?
12.9 @112

66GTFB 11-26-2007 04:19 PM

I reckon you'll crack a 10, 10.90 @ 125mph. You've got the power, just gotta hook it up. Good luck.

reckn8 11-26-2007 04:36 PM

12.8 @ 114

oooohhhh, I just calc'd my guess assuming driver is 200lbs and 17% loss thru drivetrain. I added a half second for the bad tires.... voila 11.76 @ 122mph. so I am with you.

If we win, I want my half of the nothing prize hahah :unibrow:

edit - er wait, I just reread and saw the ET streets, so maybe a little better hook... 11.56 @ 122mph.

Bill Howell 11-26-2007 05:12 PM

11.98 @ 113

mazspeed 11-26-2007 06:23 PM

With a good driver 12.40 @ 112
With Steve driving 14:80 @ 99.9

I figure a few mis shifts and cuss words when Steve makes his passes. :D

Good luck. Don't have a clue but I will guess 12.18 @ 116. Not sure if this is the event at Fontana on Friday, but my brother and friends are gonna try to go with blue second gen Nova with a Dougans prepared Big Block.

rocketman 11-28-2007 10:15 PM

I would say mid 12's,

Steve1968LS2 11-28-2007 10:20 PM

Oh, change in plans.. I was set to run at Fontana Friday but I was called today and it ends up that I was number 101 and the cut off was 100.

SOOOOOO... I will run the Fairlane tomorrow since our magazines have the track rented. There will be full track prep, but no tree and no timing lights.. just a radar which works great but is somewhat less cool.

Wish me luck!

4mm 11-28-2007 11:10 PM

Good luck Steve, it is going to be real close IMO :burnout:

That should be a good thing as they are saying it's gonna rain on Friday.

I won't break it or put it in the wall.. lol

Yea, I heard about the rain deal as well.. so long as it doesn't rain on Sunday I will be HAPPY.

That's when Penny will debut at the John Force Holiday show..

When is that show Steve? Also good luck down the 1/4 mile.

Steve1968LS2 11-29-2007 08:54 PM

Ok.. on the way to the track the trans felt a bit off. the 1-2 shift was great but the 2-3 shift had a weird "flare" to it.

On the third run it let go on the launch. I had the rpms up to around 2600 and when I launched the engine just reved. I drove down the track and back to the line. It felt "ok" but when I drove it later it would barely move in the forward gears. Reverse is fine so it's not the input shaft.

I will call Hughes tomorrow for a new trans ... lol

best time was 12.51 at 111 with a 2.07 60-ft... I need more converter and I think my fuel delivery system might need a little loving. I'm about 5mph down on trap speed and that should knock that half second off I need.

Right now I need to fix my trans.. but that's hot roddin for ya.

As the old saying goes "If you not breaking stuff you're not really trying." lol

448rwhp and 111 dont sound right. How much does that sucker weight?? My mild 408sbc Camaro runs 12.40 at 112.3. 60 foots was 1.94(sucks). But I dont think I am anywhere near 448rwhp! Were you getting a ton of wheel spin?? Those ET streets should have hooked up for al least some 1.8's or so.
Either way kick ass for finally taking these project cars(howitzer) out and hitting the strip! This is what will make me keep buying the mags!

I agree with the converter choice being to tight. Sucker needs a 3500+ converter in it. Keep up the good work. Love the look of the car!

It isn't right.. the trans had issues so that hurt the et and the mph.. It bogged bad off the line and the 2-3 shift was crud..

I ripped the trans out yesterday and took it to Hughes today to get fixed. Should have the car back together by Monday. Oh, I upped the converter to a 3200. I know I could have gone bigger but I don't want to kill the streetability.

Car weighs 3460 without the driver... Should be in the high 11s and trapping around 115mph.

I'll get there ;)

The real question is how much it weighs with the driver?

Right on Steve...some high 11's at 115 would be nice. Should be no problem once you get your 60 foots down. Keep us posted on the track updates. I am planning on taking my camaro back to the track for the second time in hopes of some better times. If I can cut a high 1.6 to bottom 1.7 60 foot it should run an 11.9 or so. Hope they prep the track this time.....

Hey...when are you gonna get Penny out on the track???

I figure I should be able to knock off half a second given the bad 60 ft times and failing trans. If not then at least I tried :)

Penny was going to go out the day I broke the Fairlane since the Fairlane was going to run on Friday. Rain forced me to delay Penny and run the Ford. Penny is for fun, but the Fairlane is for work and take priority.

Tomorrow the Camaro goes in for an killer alignment and some tuning. At that point she's ready for testing (will still need fine tuning to the shocks). We are trying to set up a track testing date sometime in December.

6D9 12-05-2007 10:10 AM

Steve...are you taking the Camaro out to the strip or Road course?? That would sweet if you did both. What kind of trap speeds do you think Penny can knock down on the 1/4??

Steve, how agressive are you going to get with the settings?

I don't know... more towards a "performance street alignment".. I will take the advice of the guy. He road races quite a bit. His new alignment rack is sweet.. all digital.
