My New Twin Turbo
Last week I saw three cars playing on the freeway, newer GTO, 2002 mustang cobra and this new BMW 335i. The BMW was making quick work of both cars. I stopped by my local BMW dealership on Monday to see what the BMW was all about and to my surprise found a twin turbo inline 6.
One turbo for three cylinders http://www.bmwusa.com/NR/rdonlyres/D.../335engine.jpg After test driving the $45k 335i, I stuffed one in my garage. It's a great car for for taking clients to lunch or just around town. Rich |
02 cobra? no such thing unless its australian

I used to have an 02 GT and it looked like a similar body style. I really can't be sure what year it was.
I needed a small car for work so this one fit the bill just fine. It's funny that both of my vehicles (08 F250 diesel) I use for work are twin turbos. Rich |
The 335's are an absolute blast to drive, great choice:thumbsup:

So...... how fast is it? :D

They're fun!!!!
My GF got one in August. They pull pretty decent for a 6-banger. We were driving an 02 Collectors T/A & I thought it was a decent ride w/good handling & brakes. The T/A brakes don't exist vs. the 335i. The first aggressive stop will leave some soil in your seat if your not careful.
I'm not sure what it is but the trans is the only thing I haven't grown accustomed to. It's the 6spd auto but the shift feel is like an electronically shifted manual trans (for lack of a better description) vs. a *traditional* auto transmission. The T/A still feels like it would dominate the stop-light grand-prix though (stock ls1, built 4l60e w/2600 stall & 3.23's). *Traditional american auto trannys are my only prolonged exposure. |
Really like those cars!

my wife has an old 03 m3 and even that is fun to drive, it took a year for me to get the courage to drive it, the first street i took it down was sideways, giggling like a school girl as i shifted the smg from the steering wheel,Excellent cars.

My wife rolls a 2003 M3 convert
It makes about 333hp from the factory with an 8100 rpm redline and it has the SMG trans. One of my favorite cars I have ever owned. You don;t get that V8 rush, but it is still moving....and you are correct, the brakes are great. German hydro boost.

The BMW 135 is out in Spring--smaller car with same motor. 50/50 weight. Should be a rocket.

Great car Rich! I'm sure there are a few mods to help turn the boost up, and get rid of the CATS! The Supra's picked up 100hp by getting rid of the cats and turning the boost up a couple of psi.

pull the shifter to the left into the "sport" gate and it will shift quicker. they work pretty good. in normal mode they are just trying to make it shift as smooth as possible. |
I opted for the auto trans with paddle shifters. Living in the SF bay area it's nicee having the auto. I took it out last night and sat in traffic for 15 minutes on my way to dinner, glad I wasn't riding the clutch.
The brakes are outrageous. even the slightest tap has the nose down fast. My brother said I was having a mid life crisis, owning a new BMW and a $125k G-machine. You should have seen the look on his face when I told him I was considering buying Cessna turbo skylane in february. A man can never have enough toys, right fellas! |

its basically the same car... just a 100 pounds lighter. nothing substantial. a company called Vishnu Tuning released a chip and a few parts that make those 335 pretty damn fast though.. check it out: http://www.vishnutuning.com/bmw_335i.htm |
