Input/opinion on this...

As I'm sure a lot of you have seen on Steve's feature page, I'm trying out a new app for image viewing which works like a magazine where you can drag pages back and forth.

I'm interested in opinions on it before I invest more time in it. Is it tedious and cheesy or is it interesting from the interaction standpoint?

I can add text to any of the pages, just like a real magazine, but I chose not to do that with Steve's feature as the photography was way to nice to have text go over the top of it.

What are your thoughts on the magazine style image viewing?

I like it alot better, and it seems like it loads faster too.

xplantdad 12-05-2007 08:29 PM

Scott...I think it's cool!

Thats awesome! :hail: What is the code on that? Javascript? Something you made up haha!

You should start a web design business! Oh..right! :D

codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0"

I was sneaking around the page source....this have anything to do with it?

Honestly Scott, thats a cool addition to the already great site~!

I thought it was pretty slick the first few times I did it, but I think it may get tedious or require a little more effort. I noticed that it's fairly intuitive as long as you drag laterally and not diagonally. I ran out of room to drag the first time, don't ask me why.

I wonder if having a button to click and the page turns automatically would be better. Sorry to create extra work Scott. Great looking page though!

I like it except you cannot "right click and save as" the pics. That's the only thing I'd change.

It does that already Ben. Just single or double-click on the upper right-hand corner of the pic and it'll turn the page itself.

If you just double-click the corner the page flips automatically... so it's already upgraded. lol

I think it's neat.

redfire69 12-06-2007 03:31 AM

It using flash, so saving the pics by right click is out... but otherwise I think its slick for features. I especially like the graphic at the top of the page....

Duh, I must not have been paying attention. Ummm...nevermind.:lolhit: It's perfect then!

HRBS 12-06-2007 05:55 AM

Awsome !
Ummm I may know of another "site" that could benifit from this.....:_paranoid

rich-allen 12-06-2007 08:10 AM

The thing I like the most about it is the pictures come up a lot faster than the other application.

V8TV 12-06-2007 08:35 AM

I'm on the "tedious" novelty side... Great car feature, though!

BC69 12-06-2007 09:54 AM

I am trying to replicate this on a back page on C-I...but obviously the flippingbook.swf file is something you need. Did you pay for it? Or is it downloadable somewhere? I setup the XML page and everything with the code given, but need the main file.

I think this is much better and faster the lightbox which I know you have been using too.

jannes_z-28 12-06-2007 12:33 PM

I think the sound is annoying.

Cool feature. I think you should keep it but still leave all the thumbnails of the pics visible for those that want to jump to a specific picture.

Yan69 12-06-2007 01:09 PM

I think it adds value and prestige to the vehicle's presentation, i was really impressed.
Yan

buickfunnycar.com 12-06-2007 01:40 PM

mazspeed 12-06-2007 02:27 PM

It's bad ass.

Theresa 12-06-2007 04:12 PM

Scott,
I love it. I think it's great.

If it become too tedious, and you can teach the technique - I'll be glad to help you.

Thats awesome... I want to do my car now !!!

bmxmon 12-07-2007 11:27 PM

Im curious how you designed that, im in a flash class right now at school actually. Loads fast, did you use multiple .fla files so it loads each picture individually when you turn? Anyway very nice, the sound is a bit much though. (though I hate any sound a website makes)

The .swf file is the actual flash file. You'll need adobe flash. http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/...rod_flash_home With that program you will create .fla files, which you can then publish into .swf files. I would imagine there are other programs out there, but adobe anything is generally the most popular. It is all that we use at school. check out www.flashkit.com for tutorials.
