Heh, doesn't look like much as I just threw the sheetmetal on to take it to paint (nice gaps! )
Took it for a little spin - I love big block power!! http://www.camarorestoration.com/gal...ide1.sized.jpg http://www.camarorestoration.com/gal...nt34.sized.jpg |
Ok, gotta ask, what's the motor combination?
|
|
Looks great Tom! You nailed the stance, and as soon as those rear springs settle a bit it'll be perfect!!
|
Thanks Bill, I'm wondering if I shouldn't help it along with a few sand bags in the trunk... I think Vince suggested that
|
I don't think it would hurt as long as it's not for an extended time period. People that live in places other than California do it all of the time in the winter. :D
Which springs are you running? |
DSE 3" drop
|
tom
looks great, fill that trunk up with 400 lbs of sand bags, get that thing down some.

?? I was told that a RamJet would not fit under a stock cowl hood?? I was told a 4" was required.. I guess you proved that theory wrong. Looks awesome!!

I'm thinking he must have trimmed the inner support on the hood or lowered the engine in the chassis. Jody |
Yes, Jody's right - I trimmed the inner support. A fiberglass hood probably would fit without modification, but I chose to go with steel instead. Although it seems to locate the engine in the same place, it is an Alston front subframe so that may make some difference compared to a stock one.

looks sweet. What wheels are those?

Budnik Fontanas

Lookin good. Good luck with paint jail.

|

I dunno Jim, I think I just got lucky!
|
Nice car man, just make the whole thing primer black.. sinister :D
|
Stance is great. That 502 shouldn't leave you wanting :morepower
|
Yes, please tell us how you shoehorned that 502 Ramjet under a stock cowl hood.
|
Just trimmed the hood supports so it would fit.
|
Tom,
Looks SWEET!.. gonna be a real looker when it gets out of paint jail.. How long will it be incarcerated for? Oh, it was nice meeting you at the John Force cruise night.. when your car is done we will have to cruise there together. See ya, |
Looking good Tom!
Can't wait to see it done. Always fun to see a car that I rendered hit the streets. Whereabouts are you in SoCal, we'll have to meet up some time, I'd love to see the car in person! Kris |
Hey Steve, good meeting you too, and seeing that shiny Penny!
Kris, I'm in South Orange County, in Ladera Ranch. It's near Mission Viejo. You aren't that far away, right? It's going to be a couple months before the car is out of paint/body, then I'll be finishing up the interior/electrical. I stopped by some cruises this weekend, and it was tough to see all those sweet cars knowing mine wasn't done yet! :willy: |
I'm up in West Covina, so I'm not too far. I haven't made it out to any car shows yet, but plan to hit some later this summer. Let me know if there's any weekly cruises in your area and maybe I'll plan to bring the Chevelle. It's up in Ridgecrest with my folks since I don't have a garage to store it in down here yet.

Thanks! I have heard so many say that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get that 502 RamJet in a Gen1 without going with a larger cowl. Can I get a picture of the underside of your hood? I am about to drop a 502 in my 1967, was going carbed, but now...
What transmission did you go with? |
I'll have to see if I have some pics of it, since the car is in paint now... I just kind of hacked it just to get the hood to close, and plan to have the edges cleaned up before painted.
Trans is TKO 600. I do have the Alston front subframe, so I'm not sure if that locates the engine any lower than stock or not... |
Thanks! Keep us posted on the final build.

502 Ram jet Clearance hood mod pics
Hey,
Can we get some pics of where you need to trim the hood and how it looks? I am about to order a new 2" cowl hood to cut up.... where and how should I reinforce the hood? I'd love to see pics! :lateral: |
I didnt need to cut/modify the hood to fit the 502. I went with the carb vs the EFI. The EFI sticks up higher, especially towards the front of the hood. I never knew what Rockdogz did.
