Attention: Lurkers and Unregistered users.....
Alright- I want to know more about our hidden members. You come here daily, you lurk, you read, but you never say hello, or comment on the stuff you see here.
Why not? Are you a pro-builder and want to remain anonymous? Do you not have a project, but love looking at the members rides? Are you from another country? Sign up and say hello. Let's learn about our lukers... Tyler |
That's how I started...just lurking around and reading all the threads. Pleasantly surprised how well I was received by everyone and by how much support I've gotten from the members.
Won't hurt to sign up and say hello. |
A definite lurker

I visit almost daily........dont post much because I'm building a mopar A-body (Dodge Demon), not much mopar stuff here..
Why I come here??.....I love the ongoing projects of the members, the insight from the "professional" builders is why I come here. Oh yeah and Im a closet 69 Camaro fan. |

Lurker Here
I used to be very active on a Datsun 510 mailing list, got burned out by the "static" and even the club activities. I have been accumulating tools and parts for years, and now have Lincoln Mig and Tig machines, torches, Esab plasma, Southbend 9" lathe, drill press, 10K in Snap On crammed in my little 2 car garage. I'm building a 1971 Datsun 521 pickup (I know, not very Pro Touring) with a '89 240SX motor, a 5 speed out of a '85 Pickup, converted the front control arms to accept ball joints (as opposed to the original king pins) and vented disc brakes (as opposed to drums). I bought a NLA Detroit locker off eBay and went to taller 3.90's (original was 4.375) in the rear. I couldn't afford airbags, and didn't want the boucy ride, so I moved the rear leafs inboard and up 4" in the frame rails, in the front I need to raise the upper shock mounts 4" and crank the torsion bars to drop it. The body and bed are off the frame in primer, I'm planning to mock the truck up 100% and drive it primered for a while to work out all the bugs, then blow it apart for paint.
I lurk for the build pictures and cutting edge ideas and solutions. Someday I may build a Pro Touring/G Machine car. I'm a "weird combo" guy, so it definitely will not be a Camaro or Mustang, and I like smaller cars, so something like a '65 Valiant post car with Nascar suspension, black 16x9" steel wheels with 245/45 R compound rubber all around, and a twin turbo currrent Hemi with a Keisler 6 speed conversion is my speed. Full cage and vintage race seats like a Porsche 911ST and I'd go GT350 hunting at Shelby club events. I do all my own work, everything except internal machine work. Haven't done upholstry yet, but I will. I have been working on other peoples cars for the last 10 years in my spare time while working a full-time day job and raising 3 girls, but I'm almost "there" to be able to finish building something for myself. After the truck, my 510 is next (turbo SR, cage, AC, power windows, road race suspension, 5" ride height) and then who knows? Here's some pictures of my stuff http://tinyurl.com/yre4d2 |
I'm a bit of a lurker, really enjoy reading the forum and have learned quite a bit, I visit every few days. I do have a few posts to my name, but not very many. If I feel I have something of value to contribute I'll post it, otherwise I'm pretty quiet. My project is more of a stock appearing restoration, or a mild resto-mod, I suppose you could call it, not really on the same level as most of them on here, although there are some pro-touring type aspects to it, global west sfc's & bushings, hotchkis springs & sway bar, Bilstein shocks, etc. Eventually I'd like to get some 17" V45's I hope and perhaps the SC&C stage 1 or 2 kit with the Howe tall ball joints and upper a-arms, larger brakes, TKO-600, etc.... if I can ever afford that stuff - the car still has to be finished and on the road in it's current state before I start upgrading.... there's lots of pics in my sig.... back to "lurk" mode....
:hail: :lateral: :woot: |
Just another chevy guy lurking here, but I don't post much. I come by regularly because I'm in complete awe of some of your projects and love seeing the updates. I also like getting ideas for my cars from all of the great builders/designers here. Planning my project on paper is rewarding, even if work and family delay the wrench turning and ultimate result a bit longer.
Currently, my small, overpriced California townhouse's garage is occupied by a 68 Camaro and a 70 Chevelle. The Chevelle is a solid California car and mostly stock. While I'd love to go all out with it, my Camaro takes priority, so eventually, the Chevelle will get a simple restoration with fresh paint, interior, and some suspension/brake upgrades. Then it will serve weekend cruiser duty. The Camaro was my daily driver through college and has been a project of mine longer than the Chevelle. I graduated college in '02 and started my career as a police officer, so car time has been hard to come by with all the shift work and overtime. Nonetheless, I have detailed plans for the Camaro and I'll continue to take steps toward that ultimate goal. In the meantime, my plans keep evolving as I see newer and better ideas I'd like to incorporate into the build. For now, I'll go the g-machine route with a carb'd LS engine, TKO600, upgraded suspension, brakes, and other tidbits underneath (Tyler, I anticipate a lot of my overtime money heading your way :D ). For the outside, I'll probably keep it mild, with some some classic trans-am styling cues and a killer stance. Anyway, thanks for a great site... I'll try to contribute more as my projects roll on! |
AWR68.....Sandy,Or, u close??

You might see me as a lurker / Unregistered user, but that is because I go to this board while I am at work on my break, to catch up on the daily things so I don't miss anything!! I do not always log in or stay logged in, but I do look every day. Say, is there anyway to see what member number I was? Yes, I look at every picture, every car for sale, and everything else. I sold my 68 Firebird a couple of years ago, but searching for another car now.

Good topic, it seems to be bring on board some more people! I may have a lot of posts, but I am naive when it comes to building cars and the technical information, so I spend a lot of my time just learning, and the more people, the more to learn!
Welcome all! Tim |

I am guilty of lurking. lurking for a couple of years landed me awesome ideas and knowledge to build my 69..... I couldn't have done it without this site, or at least couldn't have done it with as much class....
|
Well I must admit that I lurk a lot.
Most of the time I'm on the road since I'm a long haul truck driver. But when I finally get home I hide in the garage where I'm rebuilding a 72 Corvette 454 4 spds that I found not far from my home when I moved here. The car was in good shape and never been touched, matching numbers and all but the frame was shot. The seller had a new complete rolling chassis and ran out of money or patience and put it for sale so I grabbed it. I like to see and learn from the incredible projects going on here. As of now, the car is completely dismantled and I reinforced the frame and plan to change a few things on the suspension. Get the body painted, rebuild the engine, probably change the tranny for a 5 spds, hydroboost ect. Mock everything to make sure everything fits send the frame to powdercoat. Then put it back together and drive the darn thing. |

Dude! Dodge Demons are cool and far from oddball but still unique and when it looks like that mocked up, who cares what it is! It looks bitchin' and people here are so positive, you'll just get support. We're all just car guys so as long as it isn't a Donk or a stock Civic with an ugly bodykit glued on, you're among like minded folks. Let's see more of the Demon and the 510s and that truck sounds like a budget Japanese version of Marty's Syborg so let's see it too! |
Visit daily .Will post some pics up shortley I pretty much visit Camaro net. pro touring.com and here great sites i've learned so much from these three sites.
|
I haven't even posted my introduction yet! I'm amazed by the talent on this site, the overwhelming amount of information for my project, and the vendors that continue to support their service and parts after hours.
I was lucky enough to pick up a LM Chicane front subframe from Tyler during the summer, and since then have ordered Front and Rear Touring Classic C5 brakes, and a Vintage Air Gen IV system. LS conversion motor mounts and a complete T56 swap kit are on the shopping list for the first quarter next year. To answer your questions Tyler: I have found an answer for almost all of my questions on this site, and others like it. If I need clarification on a subject, or help making a buying decision, the vendors are just a phone call or email away. fortunately for the vendors, this site does what's intended and facilitates people making their dream-cars come true. I own a business that is open 365 days a year, 13 hours a day, I barely have time for my own project! However, with that being said, I've found that my ten year or older automotive/hot rod/racing technology experience may not provide the most relevant answer. I'd rather sideline myself to allow someone more focused or employed in the trade to come to the front with the most modern approach or remedy. After all, who hasn't been burned by poor advice in the past? |
Ha yeah Im guilty of lurking as well . I come here to get inspiration to keep going. Even though my car is just a conventional rebuild and not a sweet project like a lot of people here have, I enjoy reading and lookiing at the cool builds.
I'm 17 and rebuilding a 71 camaro (kind of on a budget, or so i tell myself) which will soon be my daily driver. Its no protouring machine but just a fun car to drive to work and school. If you want to check it out thatd be cool. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2832550 |
I come here at least once per week. I don't post much because I'm not building anything and I don't have a lot of mechanical experience. I'm just an artist that likes cool rides. I genuinely love cars, doesn't matter the type. When I post I mostly post in the art forum. Every so often I post on "ride" threads but I'm usually just saying "cool ride" or something similar.
Thanks |
Great post Tyler!! We know they are out there. To all the lurkers...Welcome aboard and share your pics, thoughts , opinions etc. We are fortunate to have our little niche over here. It is great community here with a huge talent pool willing to share there experience. Looks like there are quite a few of you that have some killer projects going together. Keep up the posting and don't be bashful!!

good ideas and incredible talent. I'll be posting for sure and mostly learn from you guys and hopefully end up with a great car to play with. Thanks for sharing your experience guys. |
I'm a card carrying member over at Team Camaro and participate quite a lot. However, I guess I'm just a "lurker" over here, since I only visit the site a couple of times a week and don't post a lot. I do enjoy reading about the various projects and find it refreshing to hear about cars other than Camaros (although 69 Camaros are still my favorite).
Here's a couple of pictures of my former 70 Nova http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i8...0Nova/full.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i8...0Nova/side.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i8...va/Nova018.jpg Here's a link to my recent 69 Camaro restoration project http://s70.photobucket.com/albums/i8...aro%20Project/ |
