67 Turbo Fastback Mustang

Well my project is moving right along. I fabricated and tig welded the 8 point cage. Ryan kertz got the new floors all spot welded in place. A lot of the suspension components were also welded, such as the rear upper coil-over mount, subframe connectors, watts link assembly, and torque arm kit. Ben Hermance is in the process of having some renderings done for me I cant wait.. I'm still somewhat new to this forum, so I'll give you a little info on my project.

Nice let me know how you like the griggs racing coil overs they look great but don't know anyone with them to tell how good they are.

Im like 20 minutes away from griggs. I think Griggs GR-350 its the best suspension that you can get for a 65-70 mustang. The only downside is front suspension will run about $7000 for front and about $4000 for rear. Griggs GR-350 suspension is designed for road racing:D

andrewmp6 01-30-2008 07:58 PM

Yeah i have read a lot on it and it looks great but im out of luck im about to get a 71-73 fastback soon to be different.I do like how it uses the newer spindles so your brake choices are endless. There rear i can get better for about the same enough of cash. Are you gonna road race it any?

I might hit the track every now and then, but its going to be a street car.

67turbostang 02-11-2008 08:22 PM

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Im really trying to build this car the best I can and with all the best parts of course. I always dreamed of owning a 67 fastback mustang and never thought I would ever own one. Now that I do own one im going to make sure I take my time and build it right.

4cefed 02-11-2008 09:15 PM

Just out of curiousity, what made you spot weld the floors in what looks to be a high powered car, rather than completely weld them in? I would think they would be stronger this way? Maybe it doesnt even matter? I dont know, just looking to learn.

Im going to weld and metal finish the seams on the new floors. Im also going to seam weld the chassis. I think with the roll cage, subframe connectors and seam welding, the chassis will be really stiff.

67turbostang 02-21-2008 07:32 PM

My car is home and now its time for me to get to work on it:woot:here are some pics I took of the suspension parts. Im so excited to work on it!!

Wilwood Front Brakes

I finally recieved my front Wilwood Brakes after a 2 month wait.. 14" 2 piece rotors, 6 piston polished calipers. I plan on either anodizing or powder coating the calipers blue. Im leaning more towards anodizing the calipers. what do u guys think?

67turbostang 03-05-2008 08:02 PM

Here is a little update on the stang.. I should be done with most of the metal fab in a few months. I plan on seam welding the entire chassis, welding and metal finishing floor pan seams, redoing(fixing) the shaved drip rails, shaved cowl, smoothed fire wall, ect....... I had a body shop shave the driprails, cowl and firewall a couple years ago. This was before I had any metal fab knowledge. A few day ago I got out my 7" sanderd and decided to see how good of a job the body shop did. The job looked good but I wanted to know what it looked like under the body filler. After sanding the body filler the drip rails didnt look that bad, but I will have to do some more metal fab to get them just right.. As for the cowl and firewall Im just going to cut out the previous work and redo it.

rotisserie

Im just about finished with the rotisserie that im fabricating. Ill post some pics within the next few days. Once the rotisserie is complete, I can finish up the chassis metal fab work on the stang. I also finally recieved my rear brakes from Wilwood after a 12 week wait..

Yeah that rotisserie kept me busy for a few days. Hopefully now that the rotisserie is done I can get some work done on my car.. Im still not 100% sure on what im going to do for the interior. I will probably fabricate a sheet metal dash and center counsel with carbon fiber inlays. Im going to use some type of racing seats either Cobra, Corbeau, or Sparco. I also want to have carbon fiber inlays for the door panels.

67turbostang 05-11-2008 05:14 PM

I got a little more progress this weekend. I stripped all the seams on the car. Next step is to bust the welder out and start seam welding..

Any thoughts of making a outer rail at the rockets and connecting it to your sub frame. If so global west has a kit http://www.globalwest.net/1964-73%20...rlo%20bars.htm
they want you to use there sub frame connectors but you could make it work for you with a little cutting.

syborg tt 05-12-2008 07:00 PM

nice project - really looking forward to watching the build.

Thanks for the info. I thought about using the outer rail kit, but with sub-frame connectors, roll cage and seam welding I dont think I need it.
