Anyone run Stainless Works headers on Art Morrison subframe?

I have a 69 Camaro with a LS-1 engine and soon to be Art Morrison subframe, I was wandering if anyone has ran the stainless steel headers from Stainless Works with this chassis.

I dont think it would be a problem....would be nice to check with one of the guys that had the headers already in a Aftermarket style sub to see what kind of steering clearnce you have. Why dont you use the AME headers?

Headers

They do not offer a Stainless steel header. Seems like the coating on regular steel headers fade after a couple of months of running.

I would be intrested too!!!

I have had one set of stainless works headers in my vette and sofar i havent seen a better quality heders. They do offer "wayne due" header - but i believe it wont work with AME or DSE sub ???

dhutton 01-16-2008 06:16 AM

I know that my AME headers are very close to the lower control arm mounting on my AME subframe so it seems unlikely that headers from someone else would fit.

Stainless works would fit perfectly here as an sponsorin vender. I think there would be lots of good products to develope for pro touring / g machine cars.

ProdigyCustoms 01-16-2008 08:33 AM

So here are my thoughts. Since Stainless Works makes Wayne Due chassis headers, I think they will be damn close! My bet is you would not have to do anything, and put one whoppie in a tube or 2, which is easy since they are stainless and you can buy the exact materials the headers are built with.

Musclerodz 01-16-2008 10:11 AM

Craig mentioned in a thread back when they introduced the frame they were fit checking the WD headers for fitment, but never heard back. I would bet they are going to work with minimal or no issues.

This must be the butthead engineer coming out in me. My AME headers clear the rear control arm mount on the right side by 1/8". On one hand it's hard for me to imagine that someone else's headers would do better but on the other hand I cannot understand why AME cut this so close - there appears to be plenty of room for them to make the clearance wider.

I guess I'm also choking a little on the prospect that the lower cost SW stainless headers might fit better than my ceramic coated AME headers...

Don- If you do decide to go the stainless route and haven't run our headers and they aren't all banged up, please feel free to give our sales and tech staff a call so you can return them.

dhutton 01-16-2008 02:32 PM

Craig, that was not the intent of my post. I was poking fun at myself. I have no issues with your headers. They fit and they appear to be of high quality. When the issue of clearance came up I discussed it with you and it was resolved to my satisfaction. My apologies if this was construed otherwise by you or anyone else.

For the record I am very satisfied with my AME subframe and have posted many positives about it here, on pro-touring.com and ls1tech.com Customer service has been outstanding both from sales and from Matt.

I think i will follow Franks idea and order set of "WD headers " in pre bent form. And do the final fitting and welding myself. This way i can adjust them to fit as good as possible :)

Stainless headers

Bowtie please let me know this works out! Thanks

Oh i will ,but it takes lot of time when i am there.I am still waiting my subframe to come ..

If you have time give Stainless Works a call and let us know what they think ?

ProdigyCustoms 01-17-2008 07:49 AM

Hey guys, neither of you are going to have to do this expensive experiment. Here what I am going to do. I will do the experiment. Today I am ordering a set of Stainless Works WD headers and will test fit them. I have DSE frame and Art Morrison Frames with LS motors going into a few of our many projects right now. The headers should be ready in a few weeks and I can check them in both frames.

One of the beutiful things about buying parts from someone that builds a lot of cars, is we will KNOW if they fit from experiance. nothing better then being able to say, yup, did that yesterday! Or, nope, tried that and hated it!

So stay tuned!

Musclerodz 01-17-2008 09:54 AM

Good deal Frank. We are doing the same here with every new project that shows up lately. Has anyone called Craig and asked?

nope. I build cars as well. Started as just shop projects only, but some people won't take no for an answer. Besides my '69 Blazer, '69 Camaro convertible I just bought, I have a '57 Bel-Air 2 dr HT and a '68 4x4 Chevy truck in the shop that are customers, and at least 2 more customer cars waiting until I either have more help or one of the current projects is completed.

We've got a few set of our Tri-Y headers in Wayne Due, AM and DSE chassis with no fitment issues.

I think I have a customer wanting a set of your LS7 header Tyler. Be nice to have them for fitment. Are they in stock?

Built to order. But all header orders I had are delivered, so if he was waiting he has them now.

Hey, I didn't take it as a slight, but sometimes people just assume that something can't be returned. I was just hoping to dispell any of those assumptions. Thanks for the good words and please send us some pics of your car!

Looks like it has been done

This is a thread at pro-touring.com
http://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38002
He switched from the wayne due sub to the AME and used the SW wayne due ls1 headers. He doesn't mention any mods to the headers.

ProdigyCustoms 01-30-2008 09:48 PM

Our should be built soon, then we can test fit.

murtah 02-03-2008 03:46 AM

Frank,
I have been trying to reach You and lisa for the past 3 weeks over email? I have been trying to get her to invoice an order for me. I will resend it again to the sales and prodigycustoms emails.

Jim

ProdigyCustoms 02-03-2008 06:12 AM

No worries, The radiators (I have 3 being done) are being built, and she cannot invoice you untill we get the shipping cost. Since it is a favor deal she does not want to miss on total cost. It will be a couple more weeks before they are ready.

Basically the problem ended up being able to install the header when the engine is installed. It's not easy, but it can be done - but making more clearance between the header tube and control arm only made the problem worse. Fortunately, with the ceramic coating, heat is not an issue.

Also, we haven't had our ceramic coating fade to the best of my knowledge. Both the Morrisons and I have logged several thousand miles with our headers with no issue as of yet.
