Drip rail shaving on a first gen?

Has anyone here ever shaved off the drip rails on a first gen? I'm doing up a 67 Firebird and allready started cutting off the drip rails. I'm hoping that I'm going about this the right way. Are there any pics out there? Thanks.

Not a first gen, but did it on my Demon. I cut about 3-4" at a time then welded, grind,weld,grind,cut,weld,grind.............you get the idea, it was time consuming and was the first time doing it.

1st Gen. drip rails

I don't have pics. , but a quik trik I have used for a clean look is simply hammer/dolly the vertical lip over flat towards the roof. Dress smooth
with a body grinder, radius the ends nice, apply epoxy and then create/fill
entire length with a small amount of reinforced polyester filler . Use your finger to make an even radius. Paint it

Thanks for the tips, that's the general direction I was heading with this. Does anyone else have any in progress pics on a first gen F-body?

I am in the other boat. I need a set of drip rails, does anyone know if you can buy them?

Thanks!!

:) Thanks, that's awesome. I think I saw some drip rails on ebay recently, but am unsure. I believe they came up on a search under 1967 Firebird.

drip rails

had mine done 2yrs ago, but not all the way down. there is still a outline of the driprail so that it still looks there but when you look closely it isn't.

For anyone else looking, they re-pop these now. Ricks has them for $185 for the pair. They are designed to weld onto the body **under** the roof and quarter panels.

when you cut off the driprails cut a couple of inches at a time tack weld every couple inches, repeat do not weld up fully use small tacks away from each other untill you have it completely welded to keep from warping, do not use epoxy and make sure its completely welded to avoid any shrinking.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still trying to decide if I should go the grind/weld route or make trim pieces like on 57CUDA's Camaro.:)
