Should I say yes to the Blow Job? Not to be confused with "Should I hit it or quit it
Rodger and a friend were screwing around in the shop today and his friend had suggested to him that we should put a blower on the LS7. Rodger felt that it wouldn't fit but for $hit$ and giggles he had a Procharger laying around and decided to see what it would look like or if it would even fit.
It fit! DAMMIT! LOL! What do you think? http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...18-2008013.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...18-2008014.jpg What to do, what to do!!!:D Adding a blower will add an additional 150 hp which would bring total HP to 650hp. For street that is a hell of a lot of HP to be responsible for! The car will be all over the place with that kind of torque and HP but DAMN it sure looks snug as a bug in a rug where it's at. It seems to have just made itself at home there! LOL! John |
I say do it....Wait, are we talking about the "hit it or quit it" conversation :D
That Nova is turning out to be one bad a$$ ride! Quote:

If it fits, and you can afford it, why would you not?????
|
It does kinda look like it belongs there. You know if you take it off it's gonna look like something is missing - so go for it.
|
Blower whine only goes with one color.....Orange! You know Troy is putting one on the nova they are building so you better put one on to compete...
|
You should change pistons if you are going to use it.
|
Here's my dilemma!
Apart from the fact that this isn't in the budget(Budget? What's that?!?) for the blower to effectively be used I would, as Stuart says, need to change out the pistons since they are cast and not forged which would mean more dough thrown at cracking the motor open which, of course knowing me, would ALSO mean that since we're in there we might as well cam it, new rocker arms, etc. CHA-CHINGGGGGGGG!!!!:wow: Also, the block itself is an issue as the cylinder walls are not all that conducive for a blown application. And lastly, the car itself is being built as a hybrid street/road racer and the blower wouldn't really help in that application either so why do it? BECAUSE IT LOOKS SO DAMN COOL IN THERE! :D (I'm a VERRRRYY sick person!):willy:  John |

Apparently, Procharger already has a kit that bolts on with no internal modifications needed. http://www.procharger.com/C6_LS7.shtml A lot of the Road Racers that I talk to have told me that they wouldn't do the S/C and that it will not help in road racing. I assume it is because of the high accel/decel that road racing requires. Is this why? As I said in the previous post, the car is being set up primarily as a hybrid street/road race car. I'm sure the blower would be great for drag racing but that isn't where it will be living most of the time. John |
I wouldn't do it. I have a ProCharger myself and am a fan of them...but with all the fab work on your car I think it should either stay 'clean' as Chris said, or go all the way and go TT!!
In my mind your car kicks ass and the LS7 will hold it's own!! |

Having said that, here is your solution, and relatively cheap to boot. :unibrow: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1907582 |
I say no..... your already this far I would stick to the original plan. Rodger and the boys are going ot have to get moving if that car is going to be at Columbus.....
on a second thought...you push that torque tube to hard and find a weak spot LOL.... |
Weak spot? How do you figure? The carbon fiber driveshaft is before the torque multiplication of the transmission.
|
I opened this thread and thought it was that redhead you were thinking about doing a while back, not a damn car.

It's attractive and holds the promise of boundless pleasure. But as you spend more time with it, you will wonder where all of your money went and you might grow tired of listening to it whine......
I'd say the two decisions are exactly the same. Temptation vs. Reality. |

that is what I meant also just not what I typed...... |
So how many broken torque tubes have you seen? Especially with carbon fiber shafts?

I'm not certain, but I think what Bob broke in his Cuda at RTH was the input shaft to the trans-axle. Travis - you may be speaking of a different instance. I think he had a few different issue initially that needed sorted out. I seem to remember that the failure was mainly caused by some fairly severe wheel-hop. I can attest to the fact that it did have some wheel-hop problems. The track wasn't ideal either. I believe they remedied this after the event, but I'm not sure what all was done (shock valving, bushings etc.????)
Anyway, I have absolutely no experience whatsoever with torque tubes, so take my comments as you may. Later |
Well Bob did not have a torque tube in his. They converted it to a drive shaft in the car. Which allows you to mount the transaxle at a different height, then the engine. Bob also had wheel hop problems, which is not good at all on heat treated gears or regular gears, it kind works like a grade 8 bolt, it shears before it bends.
There is a local guy here that has a Stock drivetrain corvette that is almost in the 8's, Stock trans, stock diff, stock torque tube, He is waiting for something to break and has been waiting for about 1.5 years and it keeps holding up. Try calling your chevy dealer and see how hard the parts in your torque tube are to get. I called and the rubber joints in the torque tube were only in Michigan, the local dealer here has never had broken torque tube, except in an accident where they totaled the car. I have talked to about a dozen guys who have put major power thru a Corvette and they all say that the diff is the weak link. Neil Lea in Alabama did the C5 drivetrain thing like 5 years ago with a big block and he beat the crap out of that thing. The new ZR1 corvette will be running a torque tube with a 100,000 mile warranty. Thanks for the Love though....... |

Your car is pretty over the top
From a practical side, slapping a cam in the LS7 the car is going to fly with no hastle or extra weight. From an in your face look, of course the blower would be very cool, but the compartment may get a little busy(not that that is a bad thing, just tight). I like the Maggie or the Kenne Bell blower so as to not have so much stuff going on and still have the impact.
You could really step out and put the new Kinsler IR intake on that bitch.. Regardless of what you do you car if one of my favorites... and feel free to PM me your Porn star loft shoot story. LOL seriously |
WelL it'S prettY harD foR mE tO hidE my feelings about being blown. I liked it so much I did it twice.
However what I have learned from my project is that my next project will have a simple clean engine bay. Right now you have a game plan and your goal is Columbus and I personally would change plans at this point. So you need to asks your self some Questions. 1. Will it make the car Faster ? 2. Will the engine bay look that much better ? 3. Do you have the time built into the build schedule ? 4. Is change really a good thing ? 5. Okay i'll stop babaling Either way this car is going to be insane and I can't wait to see it at Tracy's. |
