Grand National Roadster Show - All Pictures In Here!

Hey, lets all put our GNRS images into one thread. I know several of us are going to be there and this way we will have "one stop shopping" for those that couldn't be there.

I just shot a few quickies in building 4 (the AMBR hall) today before the show opened. I had to go turn in stories, but I will be there tomorrow for the rest.

There are some amazing rides there.. simply stunning... My color looks good under the light, but I bet I'm one of the least expensive cars in the place. lol.. heck, I bet some guys have more in thier displays than many of us have in their whole cars.

So let us begin..

Wow great pics Steve! That last one by Troy is incredible. I'm sick as a dog...hopefully I'll be alright by Sunday to go check it all out in person!

Hey Steve, That 40d looks like its working good. The underside of the First love car is cool. I have shots of the car with no body. The Frame is a work of art. So is the rearend.

Yea, I was lazy so I was shooting without a tripod.. good for practicing a steady hand. lol

Was using a bounce card for the flash, I also need to adjust my depth of field a bit.

The screen on the back of the 40D is worth the purchase.

Did they ever get Troy's car drivable?

Yes. At Detroit last year, after inspection, Troy drove the car to the locations of the display. Usually people roll the cars in the display.

It looks like a custom 40 ford 3 window. I will get you a pic this afternoon. We are leaving Bako at high noon for the show. The front fenders are not 35-36 I have one of those. And the shape of the trunk looks like a 40 also.

Steve1968LS2 01-26-2008 10:33 PM

Building 4 caught on fire today and had to be evacuated.. lol

That's the building with Penny in it and those AMBR cars.. :wow:

It was a small fire, but still..

Lowrider guys are nuts! The under side of the car is probably striped and flaked just like the outside.

Black El Camino looks sick...and the lowercontrol arms on Troy's car...OH MY!:hail:

Any more pics on the 70 Elco? I remember watching Jimmy Shine build it on the show but haven't seen any other features or pics of it anywhere.

The show was pretty good. Troys car is awesome, There are some cool cars but nothing that was new that blew me away. That 3 window 40 was cool but just looked a tick off. It looks like it could have been stock. I got few ideas for some colors in the engine compartment of Johns car and saw a few old friends.

It poured rain all the way home Saturday, Thank you Ford for building a 9000 lbs dually or we would have been home days later. Those F-450's just plow through the huge puddles.

Enjoy

ironworks 01-28-2008 08:54 AM

Anybody know who won the AMBR?

ironworks 01-28-2008 09:35 AM

The Scotts Hot Rod's 32 won, Found it on the Hamb. In case anybody cared.

Teetoe_Jones 01-28-2008 10:48 AM

Cool! That black 70 elco has our Sidewinder LSX accessory drive on it! You can't even see it since the dry sump tank is in the way!

Aparently those guys aren't to fond of it over there.

I think it is more about his reputation, and the billet stuff of course.

Mick Mc 01-28-2008 11:30 AM

Look at the Casino car that draws all of the attention.
That interior sure looks...pink

Hey John Nutcase got a hair cut...

Mick

ironworks 01-28-2008 12:01 PM

He was trying to figure an way he could to be faster at the track.

Mick Mc 01-28-2008 12:21 PM

I need a vacation. Lets get the crew and head back to Columbus.

John, Bob, Jim Haliburton, you, me and the Star Trek converntion.

This year we need a couple of large KD canopys and lawn chairs, shouldn't be a problem hauling it with your truck and trailer.

How about staying at the party hotel this year, we need to make reservations soon.

Mr Popular will probably make me carry his luggage this year, or at least his autograph pens. He just might be faster with his new hair cut, but will his fans recognize him.

Mick

Pro-Touring?

I'd say PRO-TRAILERING! I'll say it and let somebody prove me wrong. I know those cars while nicely done will never get driven like we have proof Penny and real Pro-Touring cars will. If I'm wrong, somebody prove it. This is why the new SMOY rules are going to rock! See you in Colombus, we'll see who has something that is meant to be driven!:lateral: Steve, you won in my book. Ask those other guys how r-compound tires do in the rain?:wow:

ironworks 01-28-2008 07:27 PM

I see your point, but it is an indoor car show. Just be glad chicayne was just there for display. That car is driven hard and the fit and finish is awesome. That car defines Pro-touring in my book.

Roger,

I couldn't agree more. I must have hit reply instead of quote. I meant to quote Steve's post showing the "Pro-Touring" cars. Chicayne is one of my favorites that I have seen up close. My comment was also pointed at the defenition of "Pro-Touring" at the indoor show. Even Steve's class "Street Touring", I find it hard to believe those cars wil be driven on the street, unless it is to load on the trailer. Do you think John's car will be ready to "bring it" in Colombus this year? I promise I won't tell John if the answer is no! By the way, does anyone have any video of Chicane? I'm in withdrawl here in the western, PA winter!

If the new SMOY rules weren't catering to the pro touring crowd it would be great, If a guy has a kick ass say 55 Chevy 10.5 style street machine or a a killer pro street style car he is screwed with this autocross crap, do a 100 mile cruise, few look cool drag strip passes like with the HROY award and call it good. Might as well call it ProTouringofYear award.

You make good points and I won't argue. I did just check out the good-guys site and it says for both categories you mentioned that results won't determine the winner, but style points count. I would say for both awards the point is to drive them a bit harder than around the fairgrounds. No "rules" are ever perfect for everyone, but this set at least keeps the indoor shows indoors. To each their own!

Nate_ERC 01-28-2008 08:28 PM

Just to clarify.

All of our cars, including the Corpala pictured above get driven HARD. We will be taking the Corpala to Portland International Raceway later this year to get some performance numbers.

Car is well done but the styling doesn't do much for me....nor does the color.
