Project "Rubbed Raw" 68 Camaro

Here is my original thread that I start about a month ago. I started a new thread because I now have a name for the car. My finger tips are rubbed raw from all the grinding, sanding, and scrubbing trying to get the liner off my hands.
https://lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=12975

I have since taken everything off to be powdercoated, so I though it would be a perfect time to coat my undercarriage. Then entire process of undercoating took alot longer than I had expected, I worked on it about 12 hrs both Sat. and Sun. I first cleaned up all the welds from the floor pan swap, primed, seam sealer (Lord Fusor), prep wipe, sanded, tacky cloth, and then coating (U-Pol Raptor Liner) . It took me longer to clean my dang hands then anything else, I have used hand cleaner, gas, mineral spirits, and just about anything else and they are still coated. Here are some pics.

I really like the texture of that liner.....did you do it yourself? What did you spray it with? how much overspray did you have? how many coats is that?

ok im done with questions now....ha ha

looks really nice by the way

Yes, I sprayed it myself with a average compressor @ 55psi, overspray was very controlable, that is only one coat. It kind of looks like it has some spots that need more coating in the pictures, but it is just the flash on the wet coating.

I thought about it, but they were too nasty to touch the camera.

Ah man, I was waiting for some hand pictures. Looks very clean though. I kind of wish I had done that to my Charger but I thought I'd piss someone off by not painting the undercarriage.

Lenie 02-25-2008 12:16 AM

Been there and done that. I like the Raptor by U-Pol. I think it'll make for easy clean up after driving. Your car is looking good. Keep up the great work. http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/2756/img3095qa6.jpg

I used that on the bottom of mine.dont want to get overspray on anything.looks good

XcYZ 02-25-2008 06:24 AM

That looks great, I think coating the bottom is the way to go.

Great prep-work and a beautiful finish !

Plz wear gloves and a mask - and never wash your hands with gas, solvents, etc ... Unless you specifically want 3 eared kids 'cause they can hear better ...

No wonder I have three ears, my dad was the one who mention the solvents and gas :willy: Is there anything else out there that I could use on my hands?

01somta 03-20-2008 09:15 PM

Well I just got my rearend, subframe, 4 link bars, spindles, and center link back from the powder coaters. I am very impressed with the quality, I really like it since it was free. I am also finished seam sealing the interior floorpans. I will probably start assembling the front end and spray the interior floors with the Raptor liner at the start of next week. Here are some pics sorry the new coated parts are still dusty. I went with a semi gloss black.

Through out this whole build that has been the big question, if I do the door bars and back bar will have swing outs. This is going to be more of a show/cruiser/maybe 2x a yr down the 1/4 mile track kind of a car.

Fuel cell mounting bars with studs, the fuel sits up in the trunk pan. I didn't want the cell inside the trunk pan or hanging down real low.

01somta 03-21-2008 06:21 PM

here is a pic standing back looking at it. I am going to trim the studs a little bit more (1" or so) once everything is back in.

Well for the past 3 weeks or so I have been spending a couple hours here and there building the frame for a flush mount spoiler. I think I am done with the frame and ready for sheetmetal. This was alot more difficult to get every bend perfect than I would have imagined. Here are a couple pics showing the frame and some with a factory spoiler sitting by the frame for comparsion. If you have any questions or comments feel free.

I have been hanging the sheetmetal the past couple nights on my spoiler, here are some pics. I still have a couple more pieces to make and alot more welding/grinding on the seems. Overall I am very please with the results.

Looks good and like a lot of work! Is it going to be one or three piece?

01somta 05-22-2008 05:43 AM

It will be a three piece, I will cut a seem that runs inline with the quarter/trunk lid seem. Thanks for the compliments.

Rokcrln 05-28-2008 02:10 AM

Your spoiler work looks great! Most people will never even notice you did anything and I feel that is the best compliment you could get on a mod like this:thumbsup:

Alright it has been a while since I have been on here or even able to work on my car. We just bought a house, so I haven't really had any time for my car in the past couple months. here are some undated pics of the finished spoiler. I am waiting on the rest of my tranny parts and then I will put the motor and tranny in and start on the exhaust.
