Anyone running this type of garage door opener?
I like the idea since I hate having a regular opener over my car.
http://www.liftmaster.com/consumerwe...px?modelId=834 I had one like it (Wayne Dalton) at our old house. It mounted in the middle of the door and was so nice. But, you need the door that goes with it. :( Calling tomorrow about this one. This will also make it easier for me to install a T-bar ceiling.. Anyone here have any experience with this? |
Why don't u like the regular ones over the car? I don't know if I want to hear.

Steve and I think alike. That chain snaps and :willy: I just replaced mine with another chain drive. I have never seen a garage door opener like the one posted.

You should check out this site for things garage related. Some good info.
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/ Here's stuff about the jackshaft opener you're asking about on that site. Sounds pretty good. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/s...earchid=324681 |
Steve....I have two of those exact openers in my shop. I love them BUT you need to have someone who KNOWS what they are doing on the install.
Problems I've had were install related. The openers are very quiet and work very well. This setup uses cables that run along the vertical rails and the cable winds on two small drums. ANY binding or slack in the cables leads to a wrestling match with the cables...I really like it when it's 10 degrees out and this happens....lol I went with these units because I needed room at the ceiling area. Now that the bugs are worked out I'm happy. I'll see if I can find some pics. |

BTW... sorry I haven't gotten back to you with the "Camaro in the snow pics" thing. My father just gave us a little health scare and he just got out of the hospital. I write it up and ship it off soon. |
Steve we have a normal opener but just had it installed beside the garage door so it runs along side it. Works like a charm and no fears of something dripping or wrecking the car. :_paranoid

Thats it ! I'am going out to my garage right now to put a diper on my opener

Genie or someone has one that fits in the center of the door that has the torque tube running through the middle and mounts on the door header. It's a recent new design and I saw it at Lowes or one of the other big box stores. I printed a paper copy and it's at home. I'll see if I can find it.

The best part is that once it closes, it deadbolts the garage door automatically by an electric solenoid. I highly recommend it. I still have to plumb the wiring, LOL. http://i30.tinypic.com/2j462z8.jpg |

http://www.wayne-dalton.com/DirectDrive.asp The only problem is that I'm pretty sure you need a certain garage door for this to work. I had this at our old house and it was GREAT, but we bought the door at the same time. I don't want to buy another door. :) |

I'm to late!
Sorry, I wish I had gotten on here a little quicker. This is what I do for a living, install garage doors and openers. I sell Liftmaster products, but have had the best luck with a brand called Zap, they are made in the UK and way ahead of anything on the US market. Maybe next time I can be of service. Travis

Me too, I am in the door business also. The Zaps are very nice just a little pricey compared to the Liftmaster. Once you add the receiver, remotes, and deadbolt lock it is much more than the LM. The Zap is definitely quieter though! |

The Wayne-Dalton one I had before was very nice and super quiet. |
Steve, I would not recommend the I-drive system it has way to many problems. It seems to toss the cables often enough that the Wayne-Dalton dealer in my area cut the warrenty to 6 months, standard is one year. If you would like a Zap let me know I can find a contact in your area, just PM me.

Steve I can sell you the Zap operator(s), but I would like to put you in touch with a local Zap dealer. The other option is to do a search on ebay I did notice there was someone selling them at a great price. Travis
