Working on the wiring

I haven't posted anything for a while, and since it's Friday, here's an update. I'm working on the wiring and have almost all of it done except for the dash, I'm waiting on a few parts before I can start on that.

I'm using an American Autowire Classic Update kit and I'm extremely impressed with it. I'd highly recommend that kit to anyone that's redoing their wiring. I'm about done installing the Electric-Life power windows, and I think that may be the easiest install and wiring of anything I've ever installed. I picked up the AAW kit and EL power windows from Frank at GP Superstore. Thanks again, Frank! The only odd problem that I ran into with the wiring was that when I'd hit the brake lights, the front marker lights would come on. A broken turn signal switch was the cause, which I most likely broke it at some point when working on the car over the past few years. lol

I used a mix of Dynamat and, at Rupp's recommendation, some B-Quiet. After using both back to back, I prefer the B-Quiet. It's more compliant and a bit easier to work with.

I picked up a metripak connector kit to use in the harness and dash instead of using the orriginal style connectors.

I'm switching to Auto Meter Ultra-Lite II gauges that are all electric and full sweep. They use through the face LED lighting and look fantastic. I'm not ready to install them yet, but I just had to hook a couple up and check them out.

And here's the LED tail lights with reverse lights. I got creative so the parking/brake lights didn't bleed through the reverse light lense.

That is a lot of wiring work! And I love the gauges, especially with the full-lights coming through rather than just on the outside edge.

Are those Marquez tail lights? It might be time to buy the Camaro a present!

Thanks for the update! Getting an idea on a time-line for completion? Looks like she could be ready for the first spring cruises?!

With the install of the sound deadner - you'll think it's a brand new car.

Looks great !

Thanks for the update, Scott. Just what was needed on a Friday!

The Ultra-Lite IIs look fantastic! ...Where did you find a good source for the Metripak connector kit?

almcbri 02-29-2008 10:22 AM

nice work Scott. When is this thing going to be done!? We are all as anxious as you are!

XcYZ 02-29-2008 10:37 AM

I'm making good progress, I'm hoping to have it pretty well finished up by the end of March.

Thanks Rob. :) It's a Jaspers Electronics kit, I got it at Jeg's. I chose metripak over weatherpak since this kit has 10 cavity connectors.

Love the connectors Scott and those aren't cheap. :wow:

I'll second that AAW's update kits are the bomb! My favorite is the Highway 22 you can run anything you want off that thing...

That's why I got the Jasper's Electronics metripak kit from Jegs, it has 4 pairs each of 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, and 10 cavity connectors.

Looking good, Scott. This is the stuff I'm looking forward to when the weather breaks here. I too have the AAW Classic Update kit and the B-Quiet sound deadening (thanks Steve). Still looks like a daunting task though. I might have some questions for you when I go to tackle this part.

130fe 03-02-2008 07:47 AM

Scott, you will enjoy driving at night with the UL2's. I like mine very much!

No problem, Tony. Once you start on the wiring, I think you'll be extremely happy with the AAW Classic Update kit. Just work with it in sub-systems, like the front harness, rear harness, dash, etc, and it will be a breeze. The kit includes a couple of nice schematics and every connector that you need. If you have any questions just shoot me an e-mail.

This guy has a lot of MetriPack connectors, he can also find special ones if you ask. Good service too.

Nah, the wiring isn't really that bad, it just looks nasty in that pic because I haven't started dressing the harness yet.

Can't wait for Power Tour.

Hi Scott I also used the AAW kit. Very nice kit! Like you said, taking it a section at a time makes it a fairly simple task. The 69 is looking fantastic, can't wait to see it done!! Maybe we can meet halfway and make a dual LS7 burnout video??:unibrow:

Sure, I can do that. Been busy finishing up the power window installation and wiring and making a bracket that flush mounts the power window switches under the dash. I removed the glovebox and made a sheetmetal insert to mount the MODO electric trunk release button, NX window switch, NX throttle position sensor module for sensing WOT on the throttle by wire, and a place to mount the fuse block for the ECM, fuel pump, etc. I'll probably mount the OBDII connector inside there as well. Who needs a glove box anyways. :D
