More g-Bar questions
 

CA Chassisworks has a new ad in the May Chevy High Performance with the g-bar for the camaro and Chevy II. They show 3 lower link styles: Poly bushing lower bar, Pivot Ball lower link, and Billet Pivot Ball Lower link. Is there an advantage to one vs the other? Is it just a cosmetic upgrade to use the billet? They also indicate that they are making Direct fit Fab-9 housings. How dose the fab-9 compare with the moser 9in for the g-bar?

The new G Bar options are a few months away, and are not available now. There is not a bolt in G Bar Ready Fab 9 for either Camaro or Chevy 2, There are only bolt in G Bar Moser rears that are available through us, in either 9" or 12 bolt for Camaros, For Chevy 2s we can only offer Moser 9" and 12 bolts with lower G Bar mounts, and you have to weld the uppers.

Frank what kind of bushings comes with your G-kit ?

The G bar uses Urethane bushings

The 3 different link bars are for 3 different scenarios. The urethane bushed bar is for the performance street car customer that wants a little better geometry, and the adjustability of the g-Bar. The Pivot Ball link bar has superior strength, consitency, and range of motion. This is the one I would recommend for someone who is pounding on their car, or is looking for that last bit of performance and handling. The Billet Link bar has the same range of motion, etc, as the regular Pivot ball arm, but is a little more of a show piece. You can not fine-tune the length of the lower arms on the billet arm, and that prevents you from the really precise fine tuning that some people will want. Ultimately it will not withstand as much abuse as the Pivot Ball arm, but will take plenty of pounding. The system is not ready yet, as Frank said, but it will be soon, it is literally at the top of the list of parts to finish.
It will have the 3 link bar options, 2 anti-roll bar options, 4+ inches of ride-height adjustment, options for single or double adjustable coil-overs, air springs, etc., as well as a direct-fit FAB9.

Let us know when the G Bar options become available. In about two months I plan on getting with you and getting the CA front to rear on my 66 Chevy II. However, I might have to wait until the new options are available.

Can you tell me is the 4+ ride height adjustability new feature compared to "old" G-bar ?

Yes, that is a completely new feature. You can now adjust ride height the right way, by moving the mount up and down, not by winding preload into the springs. The new g-Bar is completely new. It is a triangulated 4-Link that utilizes a cradle in the body of the car and the spot formerly occupied by the front of the leaf spring. Other than that it is nothing like the "old" g-Bar.
We have this setup finished for the Mustangs, it has a lot of the same features as the F-Body system will. You can look this over and get a better idea of what you are going to be getting.

I don't believe there will be any way to make that work. I don't want to say never, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Thank you your reply.One reason i wanted to stay away from QL was the adjustability. Since i really dont know much about adjusting chassis do i really need these other features except ride height ? I am just about to bay one from Frank and if i have understood this right the "old" G-bar has adjustability in ride heigth too by repositioning coil over ? Is the bushing material same in poly version ?

Yes, the bushing material is will be the same. You can adjust the height a little bit with the spring, just not nearly as much as you will be able to with the new system. Frank is 100% qualified to help you with that adjustment.

question....more than one.

How harsh is the ride with the spherical bearings? I am assuming a considerable amount of vibration.

What is the life expectancy of those?

Noise?

How much real world performance gain is there between those and the poly? Meaning an 80% street and 20% track day situation.

Great looking product!

The ride is not that harsh, the sperical bearings ride in a polymer race, so that contains some of the harshness. It DOES transfer more vibration that the stock suspension, but it is not out of hand.
The Polymer race also cuts down on the noise as compared to a rod-end type 4-link. There should be no random movement, rattling, etc. so noise is really not a problem.
Life expectancy is very good, the pivot ball ends are contained by a threaded retaining ring that is both greasable and adjustable, so if you do experience wear, you can just tighten the ring a 1/4 turn (or whatever is needed) adn be on your way. Worst case scenario, if you wear it out, it is easily rebuilt.

My car has a little vibration now as I am running a rubber bushing up front and the del-alum in the rear of the leafs. Solid subframe bushings, etc. I do not see that as a big deal. I have ridden in some of the 4 link cars and that is not acceptable to me, so that is good news.

I assume with the 3 link option on the Gbar you will be using a panard or watts linkage? Any real gains there?

You are at the top of my list. Waiting to hear back from one other manufacturer before I make my decision.

I am not sure how the 3-link came into the discussion of our parts, we have no plans at the moment.....we have a torque-arm suspension in TCP, but nothing in the works for the F-Bodies, Just the g-Bar triangulated 4-link

ETA.....I can't say anything officially at the moment, as soon as I can, I will.
Not trying to be evasive, I just don't want to promise anything that I can't deliver.

Trust me, I am getting impatient myself!
There are a couple of other new parts in the works that I am equally excited about, but can't say anything as of yet.
I will keep everyone posted as best I can.

ya, count me in for one of those fab9 + g-bar kits as soon as they're ready, i thought i was gonna order it this week until i saw this thread and was horribly disappointed that i may have to wait several more months... :willy:

lets hope nothing equally or more exciting enters the market before they're ready...

Um, yeah. No pressure. Trust me, I want it to be ready as badly as anyone, I just have to wait like everyone else!
