Top Secret Chevelle revealed......
Well It has been secret for a awhile but today we posted 108 pics of possibly the worlds most insane 67 chevelle. It is wedged sectioned, chopped, and we are attempting to make the most bitchin tube frame we can design. So far it looks pretty good. We are using our new tubing roller with varing radius bends on the bender. We will be looking for some 4130 aero tubing and some other tricks in the near future. I will save space bandwidth and just lead you to my site. I will leave out the specs for now but it will be wild for sure.

Wow. That's a LOT of work. I bet quite a few people wouldn't notice the wedging unless it was parked next to a stocker. The wedging almost makes it look like a side shot of Bob Johnson's Cuda.
Very cool, can't wait to see the finished product. Now you've gotta make a 7/8 scale one like Smokey's 66 NASCAR Chevelle. :) |
amazing, simply amazing. same rear tires I planned on running on my truck although I was contemplating the 29"s instead.

Thanks guys. It is coming along nicely. We got the door bars into day. They were rolled on the tubing roller also. The frame center section is being water jet as we speak. I hope to start on the motorplate next week.

I haven't seen many people that keep up with your frame designs! Just love all the tubing. I think it is easy to say you guys have mastered the tubing bender!! Your designs are off the hook. :thumbsup:

Thanks guys, we are always trying to out do ourselves. We are using a tall deck big block with a front mounted F3 Procharger. This car will have all the motor/trans plates designed in Solidworks. The trans is the viper 6 speed Tranzilla for 1200 hp. The rear tires are obviously the 31/18.5/20 Mickey Thompson tires. The front will be a 275/18 Hopefully. At this point it all seems to work and have full steering. The exhaust will be the limiting factor. The entire frame is made of 4130. All tabs and brackets will be made of the same material. The front suspension will be modified C6 stuff. The chassis has the feel of a double frame rail Pro-mod car that will be setup to run on the street. We are basically going to try and make a dual purpose car that could go to the strip or the roadcourse and hold its own. The front and rear tires will be able to be swaped to other sizes and style in order to change the overall look and design, but still maintain correct suspension geometry.
That should be enough, info for now. There are a few more details, but you will have to wait on those I guess. |

Man i wish i would have spent more time checking out that chevelle. I was so preoccupied with all your other projects. I can't wait to see this one done. Like always, top notch all the way.

There are updates on my website of the door bars under the project listing of Mic's chevelle. Those door bars are rolled and bent to go from the main hoop to the double frame rails in the front. Now for some spreader bars and start on the motor/trans plates along with the back bones that goes over the trans to the rear bulk head. It will be cool..

Can you explain your "wedging" a bit more ?
It looks like you cut some out of the a-pillar, and then pulled the roof forward and put a patch into the gap ? What I'm really interested in is how you are handling this vis a vis the vent windows and normal windows. I was going to angle the windshield on my '67 Mustang coupe backwards and lower the roof 1" for a subtle rake, and just move the whole greenhouse backwards 1" and just put some extra trim behind the rear 1/4 windows to fill in the 1/2" gap that would result, and take the extra out of the rear deck fillerpanel. I had a junkyard roof that I practiced on and it would have worked out good. I had the sawzall positioned on the a-pillar when I wimped out - the primary reason being I just didn't have a good solution to the front vent window and primary window setup. I had some ideas, but all were risky and of course involved a ton of work. Now my car has a roll cage that is 1" lower than necessary ha ha. |
The wedge is cut through the body to take pie shaped piece out of the body to make the car thinner. We then choped the roof a tiny bit to get everything to look like it was untouched. If you look through the pics on the site you can see where we cut the rocker off the car and reshaped the door after raising it up on the body.
If you look at the pics on page 2,3,4 and they will show what exactly was done. They are not in sequental order, but you should get the idea. There is one that shows the uncut fender and the cut rocker next to it to give you and idea how much we took out. |
Okay I was wondering why there was so many pictures of that rocker I couldn't quite put it together.
Does that mean you did not alter the windows at all ? |
Just enough to flush fit the glass. We did just enough to bring it back into proportion. The biggest mods are the wedge and the moving of the body line.
