Anyone ever think of making a billet trunk hinge?

There are so many nice pieces for the camaro, but no one that I can tell has ever made a custom bullet trunk hinge. Anyone want to start making any? :unibrow:

fesler 03-20-2008 07:23 PM

we are working on them now, should be out soon. I will post them up here as soon as we have them. I have a ton of parts coming out for the Camaro's, Mustang's, Chevelle's and Nova's to start

Vegas69 03-20-2008 07:24 PM

I don't think the market is there. Who has there trunk open at a car show, unless you have a high dollar stereo. I wouldn't spend my life savings on tooling but adding it to the hood hinge line up might be a smart idea for those in the game.

fesler 03-20-2008 07:26 PM

Already in the works for us so no turning back now, I will put them on the cars I build and if people want them great if not no biggie. Its just one more cool part to make your car different from all the others.

I would have to disagee, I think there would be a market, granted not like the hood hinges, but as you stated the hood is opened more often at shows and what not, but I think there would be a lot of people that would like to see a high quality piece.

I’m interested! Can you PM me a picture of what they look like and possibly a price if you have one?

We kind of agree........I am not saying you can't sell them. I just wouldn't base my business on it. It makes perfect sense to have matching ones like Fesler is proposing.

Yep, just one more thing to buy for the car. :P

rockdogz 03-20-2008 08:11 PM

I like the idea...

Hey Chris, can you make some billet side mirrors? Now that's something I would like... ;)

slck6t9 03-20-2008 08:20 PM

I like the idea also. I would like to see someone make some billet sill plates in different varieties.

Steve1968LS2 03-20-2008 08:21 PM

The best part would be if they incorporated a hydraulic shock like the hood hinges. I'm sick to my decklid that won't stay open.

I think they would sell well and they should be cheaper than the hood hinges. Marquez made some for thier Orion car but they aren't for sale to the public.

Can't wait to see the Fesler units.

Would it be possible to get a photo from you? not for design, but just to see what it looks like?

redfire69 03-21-2008 03:26 AM

Yep, I'm interest in trunk hinges also - let me know. The mirrors are a great idea too.

J2SpeedandCustom 03-21-2008 06:20 AM

Chris are you going to change the mounting points from stock? And I 2nd that from Steve a hydraulic version would be SWEET!

fesler 03-21-2008 06:25 AM

Billet parts

ok now that we are on the subject why dont you guys all tell me what you are looking for and I can see if its possible to start making them if we are not already doing so. I have about 20 more things on top of the hinges I would like to make and mirrors and sill plates are on the list

IDEAS

fesler 03-21-2008 06:27 AM

No photos to show yet not up here, question maybe all you can help with is how would you like to see it mount, the factory one is welded in and we are working on mounting it now. Ideas

Sill plates for A-Body GM

Olds hood hinges (the Chevelle ones mount differently, though it looks like the holes are there on my fenders... I'll have to find some to compare)

Shiny Side Up!

I have a stock console in my 69 and would like to see a nice billet shifter base plate also. Plus can anyone come up with a nice looking upper and lower hood latch assembly? I will try and think some more.

fesler 03-21-2008 06:31 AM

Already in the works should be out in a few weeks

Fesler Billet parts

I can see it now that people are going to think we are trying to steel parts from others and by no way do we want to do that. I have a total of over 100 products I will make for the cars I build so the info up here is good to see what you guys like and dont like. If you have something you want to see made PM me and I can let you know if its in the works or how far out we are. Thanks

I think this is a great idea and some overlap with other vendors is not always a bad thing - it give us more choices in style, price, etc....

slck6t9 03-21-2008 07:36 AM

Thanks Chris, if you ever need a product test I volunteer (ha ha).

I Think we go thought this a lot more (builders) because we try to put out cool stuff and there's always someone that did it first or you copy me BLA BLA BLA
There's only so many ways some things can be made or built without looking the same so put your own style to it and hope they like yours more then theres

You guys build some cool stuff..Keep the products coming..

There's a lot of people that can't make or get these parts made.

Rick Dorion 03-21-2008 08:26 AM

I like the idea of trunk hinges with a hydraulic shock. I've banged my head a few times when the lid comes down due to the weight of the spoiler. Probably would powder coat black but anodizing would be a great option. I like these parts since I can't afford all the body work/paint now :)

fesler 07-31-2008 09:07 AM

The trunk hinges should be done soon, we are doing the testing now and will post pics of them very soon. I am also working on the sill plates if you are interested and will post shots of those as well.

not sure what design to go with on the sill plates any ideas would be great to see what you guys might like.

cdushane 07-31-2008 09:33 AM

Chris...my car is almost finished and I would love to have a set of billett trunk hinges. In discussing it with my builder and interior shop the factories were a diappoinment as we all know they do not like to stay up. As far as sills I bought a set of billet from Pete's fabrication and they are very nice. However, I would like to see yours and would possibly change them if yours look better. I personally would like to see something smooth and clean without the lines and bow tie emblem.

Sill plates would be nice.I could use some at my shop

monza 07-31-2008 10:47 AM

Truck hinges sound good, with hydraulics for sure so when I use my automatic truck open button it goes up eeeasy.....
Interesting, my trunk lids flies open, have to be fast to catch it, do all lids with spoilers like to slam shut?

In our installation instructions for the trunk latch kit we tell you that you may have to adjust your springs on the hinges.

These with hydraulic shocks would be great with our electric trunk latch kit.

Looking forward to seeing these products Chris. Please post pics when you can.

thanks.

Funny how the billet everything is all but dead in the Street Rod world but picking up steam in PT. I wonder if it will fall out of favor as fast as it did with street rods.

I dont think it fell out I think the hot rod industry has just adapted more like anodizing billet and so on. Billet is a cool way to update your car and the parts we make are not the everyday stuff so its hard for people to get tired of it. But there is only so much you can do.

We just made our own........:unibrow:
