I messed with the bell housing Today for the Tremec TKO. This tool is from Browell bell Housings. I ran into a snag as the collar is to thick for my flywheel bolts. It was a real snug on the crank so I tried it anyway. I had them machine the collar at 4.6825" as the Bell I.D. is 4.6875". This will give me the .005 diff and should work as a go/no go indicator. As you can see it fit on but I suspect that there is a chance that without it fastened it possibly could move. I will get longer bolts and try on another day. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...f/bell6002.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...f/bell6003.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...f/bell6004.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...f/bell6005.jpg |
69 Chevelle Project with LS3
I thought I would start a project thread on my car. It is nothing over the top like some of the killer cars here, but rather something that I am building with out credit card debt or a 2nd mortgage and within in my means :) . And I will say this board has motivated me in many ways. In addition caused me to redo many parts that I did not research before buying. Here is a pic of the POS when I bought it.
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...erf/img068.jpg Body was media blasted and is very slowly being worked on. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...erf/31-900.jpg The frame is starting to take shape..if I had to do it over I would have saved and went with the AME frame, but for now I just trying to focus on getting it together with what I have. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...rf/fr11000.jpg I am using a Currie 9" 31 Spline rear with 3.50 rear gear. Rear control arms are also Currie with johnny joints. Rear brakes are Baer GT Plus 13" two piece rotors. Front brakes are Kore3 C6 calipers also with Baer two piece rotors. Spindles and steering arms are ATS. Lee Steering box, SPC upper and lower control arms, Varishock Coil overs in front. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...rf/fr31000.jpg |

The tire and wheel choice were also bought early last year before hanging around this place findin out what was cool. When this thing fires up and drives down the street I will likely order a set of Forgelines that day. For now there is still many things to procure. And also these will be for sale:) . Currently they are 18 x10 (6"BS) 295/45/18 and 17 x 8 (4.75"BS) w/255/45/17. The engine is a LS3 with L76 intake. I got the engine late last year from gmcopo. It is basically a service/warranty 08 LS3 long block. I plan to run Vette acc. drive for now. I will install a Vintage air in the car for later. I am using ATS LSX pan and mounts. Headers are Edelbrock 1-3/4" stepped to 1-7/8". Harness will be Speartech with DBW and John suggested I use an LS2 MAF. Radiator Ron Davis and was a little more than twice what I paid for this whole POS car:lol: http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...harness750.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...rf/rad2750.jpg |

We used UPOL Raptor bed liner for under the car. It laid down pretty good. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...erf/li1900.jpg I like the texture shown in this shot better http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...perf/l2900.jpg |

And I know some will say the stripes never went over the roof on a Chevelle etc from factory. But in defense of that many other items on this car did not either. Carter, Did what ever I asked and listened very well. I was concerned that renderings always look better than the finsihed product so I wanted it as real looking as can be. Thanks, Tom |

good looking project! I like the stripe between test 4 and test 5

About the Project Name
Thank guys!
And while I know we all get tired of the father/son stories this is one of those cars. The Project Name: I sometimes feel that car project names are cheesy or reserved for Professional Builds. However this build had a name that seemed to stick with me every time I looked at it. When I originally bought the car as a roller I threw it together quickly and drove it around the block. It drove worse than it looked. I blew it all apart at my Dad's shop. He said in a joking way that you will never drive that car again. You will loose interest in it and sell it in pieces. I said wait and see. He passed away not long after that. I thought I had a good twenty years or so to show him, but he will hopefully be watching from a better place when I do. His comments have been right, as many times I have thought of selling and building a first gen Camaro like the rest of the world. Every time those thought come up about selling I feel in a joking way I would be Unforgiven. So I must drive this pile again.... disclaimer I did not say finish but only drive again...Hah! |
gotta go with the others on stripe test 4. I like how it widens out. As for test 5, personally not so keen on it as it doesn't follow the body line at the front of the car that well to my eye, but could be tuned a bit and I would like it too.
As for the wheels, try the ones you have first. I like 'em. I am apparently one of the few not into the monster wheel thing (up to 18" looks good on the Muscle Cars IMO) and I think those will be a nice "period" touch. I like Forgelines too of course, as long as it is kept at a reasonable 18" maximum IMO. Like the car nonetheless  |
Tom,
Your project looks to be well under way. You don't need a big budget to build a killer car with the right pieces and sweat equity. Your rolling chassis looks top notch and you have a great guy doing your rendering. As for the rendering, all that matters is what you like since you're the one that has to live with it. Good luck and keep the pics coming. |
Project seems to be coming along nicely.
Great job!!! Keep us posted. |

Great looking project! Love the SS stripes the best....even if they go over the roof! ;)
Yes Carter is great to work with and is willing to try anything you are!! Keep the wheels and put the money towards gas! |
Hi, I was just curious as to what you would have to have for the wheels, that are on the car, when you're ready to dell them, [email protected]

*Not sure what happened to this thread. My last post (last weekend) some how got back dated by a month and on top of the original.
The body has got roughed in and coated with DP90 and then 5 coats of primer. My brother is actually the one doing the work on it as he has spare time. It's a good/news bad/news type of thing meaning the price is right but it just takes longer. When I have time I travel down and help (which means bascially a kick boy). With some material on it we can start blocking the car. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...f/body8002.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...f/body8001.jpg |
Looks great Tom. Thanks again for the deal on the pan. Did the check make it back to you yet?
Where are you going to mount your coils? behind the heads? Jim |
I thought dp90 was black? Nice to see progress on the car. Did you media blast the car? If so, where?

Thanks and yes I did get the check and thanks for the additional, I did not expect that so thank you very much. I look forward to seeing some posts on your project. As for the coils I hope to put them behind the firewall. If it turns into a problem I will look to the back of the heads or some where down on fender wells |

I had it media blasted at a company called Advanced Finishing Systems in Riverside, California. It was about $500.00.....that was body, doors and trunk. No front sheet metal as it was all trashed. They did it quick, however my spanglish is not very good so if you use them be sure to point things out that you want and don't want done. Thanks, |
