Looking at a couple of vehicles. Input needed.

Im looking at a couple of cars local to me right now. The first is a 1970 Camaro. The engine is a 350 rebuilt 500 miles ago supposedly. TH350 trans that has a small leak somewhere. Discs/Drums. there is rust. needs new window/door gaskets. engine/trans run good. trunk has a sheetmetal panel riveted in. Paint is good from far, mako style from up close. Here are some pics. Floors look solid from below. He lowered his price from $7500 to $6500.

Looks like the Camaro had some serious rust issues, and they slapped a cheap paint job on it to temporarily make it shine. As long as you like doing sheetmetal repair, that would be an okay project.

The Elco is clean, but I guess I'm just not a fan of Chevelle trucks. I know a few guys that have dumped serious coin into Elcos, and when they sold the cars they came nowhere near the price of a comparible year/condition Chevelle.

the camaro is gonna need LOTS of new panels... and you can see all the int was spray painted so chances are youll need a new int also... i dont think that cars worth 6-7k... not a big fan of the elky... i say keep looking for a 70-73 camaro though.

Bulldog68 03-29-2008 03:04 AM

I agree. My first car was a 70 Camaro and I loved it. Keep looking... I don't think this one's worth the asking price when you consider the extent of body work needed.

TwinTurboMach1 03-29-2008 06:57 AM

keep looking!

That camaro isnt worth anywhere near 6 grand.

the cowl rust issues are bad enough to make me keep looking And I own a restoration shop. That car could be fixed as can anything. But 3k Is a fair price for that car. just cause its shiny doesnt make it wortht he asking price.

Hey you live in texas, you can do much better! Good luck in your search, I love 2nd gen camaros, but that thing has some sins under the paint.

My next project is going to be a second generation Camaro, but I am a bit partial towards a '67 Elky. Tough decision you have there.

Wow your's looks awesome. Maybe if he comes down on the price a little i will pick up the 67.

Smack_talker 03-30-2008 03:52 PM

Keep looking that Camaro is a slap and sand job. The Elco looks like a much more solid piece if you like that bodystyle.

JayR 03-30-2008 08:25 PM

If you had any worries about the potential of the El Camino, Jason's should seal any doubts!

Talk him down a few bucks, then do little affordable bolt-ons one at a time in the driveway with hand tools and you'll have a nice reliable ride that's fun to drive.

Forget that Camaro unless someone with major sheetmetal hanging skills owes you some favors because it's probably way beyond little patch panels here or there.

Be different get the el camino almost everyone on here has a f body i rather stand out then be lost in the crowd. What you think about a early mustang 64-70 a coupe you can get for about 4 grand range fastback or vert your looking some money then.
