Precision Metalcraft sheetmetal intake showed up today

As some of you know, I'm selling my Hogan setup and bought the new PMC intake http://www.precision-metalcraft.com/. First thought, absolutely beautiful work. Very unique look. Many will wonder why change as the Hogan's is a great manifold also. I have a few reasons.

I originally ordered a manifold from a pic on their website; they don't use part number per se, so I told him what I was looking for. I wanted a rounded top, but when it arrived it was the standard flat top with bolt on plate. Looked great so it wasn't a big issue.

I also set it up for hidden fuel rails, which meant you needed to use the ultra short LS7 injectors. The largest you can get that I'm aware of is 65#, and that will limit my engine, need a larger injector.

So when Kevin showed the pics of this new manifold I was in love........ Gives me the rounded top I wanted, larger injectors, uses standard GM throttle body, and uses stock o-ring factory gaskets. I can't say how cool this manifold looks, and at $2250 retail it's several hundred dollars cheaper than the alternatives. It also incorporates some extended runners and stacks inside the plenum which should make great torque. Here's the pics:

nice looking intake, and that is a good price too. The CNC billet runner LS7 intake I had built cost about $4K.

yes, it really is, and Jeff at Precision Metalcraft is a great guy to work with.

wow i want one... not sure need it, but its soooo nice looking, it also looks much more boost friendly than the flat top on the hogan... but i guess i fit can handle the vacuum at idle it should handle boost as well...

Payton King 04-02-2008 02:09 PM

I really like it a lot and it looks great on your car

I would guess that it is too much manifold for a 425 rwhp stock cube LS1probably kill the bottom end. Which is a good thing because if it was equal to or better than my Fast 90mm, I would have one on order today.

Geez, I love your motor!

XcYZ 04-02-2008 02:15 PM

Wow, what a work of art. :hail: That's an extremely bad ass part. That's going to be the crowing jewel on your kick ass motor, Jody! The price is amazing, too.

Too bad it won't fit an LS2..

90mm TB? Does it have a spot for the MAP sensor and is it in the front or the back?

Just curious.. Oh, and VERY nice.. :)

KPC67 04-02-2008 05:32 PM

Very Nice!

why won't it fit an LS2? That's what I have it on. There are four vacuum ports on the underside of the plenum for map, power brakes, pcv, vacuum/boost gauge, etc.

He can make them for a 75mm or 90mm tb, or probably whatever size you wanted.

Very nice piece. I've been thinking about talking to them about an intake for the LS7. Looks to be a quality part at a reasonable price from a company that appears great to work with - an awesome fit.

JamesJ 04-02-2008 07:07 PM

Very very nice....

jeff hanson 04-02-2008 07:52 PM

Jody, you seriously have the sweetest engine I have ever seen. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better! :hail: :hail:

I've got a feeling with that longer runner setup they have extended into the plenum, that it will make very nice low and mid-range torque.

Do you guys think there is power to be made with this intake manifold on an all motor setup? I know that people usually gain nothing and even lose some down low with a sheet metal intake manifold. Katech even tested out a few on a LS7 and reported no power gains. This manifold has a decent length runner so I wonder how will it perform. I'm looking for something nice to sit on my LS7. ;)

V8TV 04-02-2008 08:28 PM

Jody,

Looks awesome! Congrats!

I think the extended runner length would definitely help on a naturally aspirated setup, but it'd take some back-to-back testing to confirm that.

Oh, I'm sorry.. for some reason I thought you had an LS7..

Very cool.. now you have me thinking.. I wonder if it would be too much intake from my 550 hp LS2? maybe a bigger cam..

awr68 04-02-2008 09:51 PM

And this is how we help eachother spend their money!!

Vegas69 04-02-2008 10:50 PM

Wow!! That is one of the nicest parts I have seen yet.

Payton King 04-03-2008 06:30 AM

Steve it looks like a great story to me

Test it against the FAST 90 you have on your car in a back to back comparison...then switch cams.

I sure would like to see that story as well as quite a few others if I were to guess.

lil427z 04-03-2008 04:53 PM

no power gains in power just looks kool as hell . for more power use a truck
manifold . jeff s told me that.

Thank you everybody for the kind words, I would like to clarify something that rick k said. On a STOCK engine the manifold will not produce any extra power. We have seen up to a 10 HP gain when used in conjuction with a built engine. Also in a turbo application an aluminum manifold will allow you to run more boost witch equals more power.
Thanks, Jeff

Autokraft 04-03-2008 06:16 PM

good info Jeff. I would think the extended runners would bump the torque. Rick is going to be very happy with his purchase.................

Welcome, Jeff. Glad to see you stop in.

I'll attest to Jeff as being an outstanding guy to work with, super nice, honest and sincere. Beyond the manifolds, he is an amazing sheet metal fabricator, like WAY over the top. I have two of the very first units for the L92/LS3 heads (in fact they used my heads to model the intake flanges for the cnc cuts). I don't have any power figures yet, but when we flow tested them relative to the stock L76 style intake (in conjunction with my ported heads), they flowed a bit better. What is important to note beyond that though is that the runner length on the PMC unit is shorter than the factory style units, which helps the power on the top. LS based motors don't mind rev'ing at all so this is nothing but a good thing. Would be perfect for forced induction engines too.

Nice to see other folks agree with the quality, nice pieces.
Mark
