new guy w/g-body
got the link form this guy -> camcojb
im looking at making my g-body turn. currently all old suspenion bushing have been replaced. with engery suspension bushings current setup is ~300hp sbc 305 and a t-56 transmission with 2.41 gears. 3.42 gears should be here next week.. and should last till i replace the 7.5 10bolt with a S60 from strange. all thinking about truck arm suspsion replacing the triagulate 4 link out back so that is me currently  |
Welcome to the forum which g body do you have. Before you change anything on it talk to http://www.scandc.com/ they can make anything handle great.
|
sc&c has a bolt in wattslink that will allow you to keep the 4 link but not have the sloppy rear suspension that lets face it we g-body owners are cursed with....
even if you do decide to go with the HR2Hell truck arm... id still get the watts to keep the rollcenter in check |
Welome aboard, Adam.

I think somebody was asking about 285/40s awhile back. I am playing around with my corvette wheels and came up with this. Frame clearance on the inside at the closest point is 1/4" Offset on the wheels with the 2" spacers is 1/4" negative. So basically the wheels are 17x9.5 with 1/4" negative offset. Also, I have aluminum drums. http://home.att.net/~caseyhenson/march2008.jpg http://home.att.net/~caseyhenson/march2008_044a.jpg 275/40/17 on 9.5" rim http://home.att.net/~caseyhenson/march2008_048a.jpg 285/40/17 on a 9.5" rim "is there clearnce to lower it a couple inches" his response Yes, It will come down. No problem on the rear. No problem on the front either but at the expence of hitting the upper control arms when the wheels are turned sharp. I have the front wheels set in alot further than the backs. The wheels are the same but I used 1.25" spacers on the front and 2" on the back. No way to put a 9.5" wheel on the front without having some type of problem. I chose to loose turning radius on order to keep them from hitting the outer fender. that help? |
I have a SC&C weld in watts link on the way. I'll post pics once I get it in, it should be a pretty trick piece :unibrow:
I've got a '87 turbo Regal this is going in. P.S. Talk to Mark @ SC&C when you get a chance. Super smart guy when it comes to making g-bodies handle like go-carts :hail: |
here is another
malbiu with a BBC The front wheels are 17x8 with 4.5 bksp with a 255x40x17. The rears are 17x9 with 5" bksp with a 275x40x17. question about rubbing his answer I thought the weight of the big block would make the front end to mushey and then rub on the front inner fender. But none. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...t/blkrims6.jpg |

i know my friends saturn vue takes more space to turn around than my wagon and she has a shorter wheel base unless you are hitting full lock all the time i dont see it being a problem in 90% of normal street duties JMHO i wouldnt mind giving up a couple Degrees in steering to acomodate the rims.. might be abel to get some of it back with 9" rim vs a 9.5 since that can still take a 275 tire properly. i have seen pic of a 275 on a 8.5" rim as well. |
Hey your talking about putting a Duramax in the Malibu, there is a Grand National with a diesel in it but I can't remember which site I saw it on. Pretty sick and fast. Google it or check YouTube. If I find it I'll post the link.

it is a LB7 motor(stock) with a 4L85E tranny behind http://www.18to1.com/ here is the thread about it http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=148774 http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/bra...d-project.html romour has it he is building the motor and bigger turbo :woot: i know a couple guy that have put the 6.5TD in a g-body as well infornt of a 700r4.. hit mid to 30 mpg |
Yeah thats the one. I say go for it. The only thing I'm wondering is what about emissions? California is a PITA when it comes to that, I know of a few people that specifically found diesel vehicles to avoid the Emissions Police but can it go both ways if you throw a diesel motor into a vehicle that originally required an emissions test?
|
im millitary hence sig line ;)
car is registered in ohio and no current emision :unibrow: had to pass snif test to get a base sticker.. told them that is was one of the very few malibu that came with a 350 V-8 diesel. guy believed me put a sticker on the window and off i went with no snif test  iirc you have to get the CARB to write off on the swap and provide documenttaion of everything |
Fl doesn't test at all Kentucky where I'm at only test in 3 cities the big ones only.It is nice driving around in a truck with purple hornies bolted the the headers and never getting a ticket for anything.
|
just got word that is will run 3200 for the wire, ecm, pedal, and tuner to do a stande alone setup :woot:
i can get this drive train done for ~10k roughly engine wise :willy: |
called strange today about getting a S60 for a g-body.. we don ahve any more. casting for a g-body.:( have to use a a-body and custom links...
or go with a 9" or call DTS which bought the last of the casting strange had |
i just got a 12 bolt moser with 9 inch axle-ends and 33 spline axles, bolt in for a g-body, bought it from prodogy customs.. and its close to umbreakable.. other bet is a track-9 from SC&C can be had with a choice of centers, both 9 in and 12 bolt ring gear... but the ford ends make for cheap brakes and does away with teh c-clips..

man havent been hear in awhile.. suprised thread was locked..
4 years latter.. lot as happened got out in oct 08 swapped a junk yard 468BBC put samll cam, bearings rings seals valve springs in the wagon drove form LA to springfield OH 2800miles.. only problem through the alt/fan belt south side of indy. not bad for having less then 500.00 in it. went to college (wyotech) blew that 468 up in their dyno piston slap after then additional 20,000 mile i put on it. it died at 3600rpm making 236rwhp and 360rwtq. whats left of piston #7 http://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto..._3514627_n.jpg found and built another 468bbc 2.065/1.88 vavle proted heads (049), oem rods and crank reconed with 3/8" rod bolts slinging speed pro 10cc domes, kmotion springs, comp roller tip rockers (came with junk yard engine) performer intake msd pro billet dis HV oil pump. 208/218 @.050 .475/.500 hyd cam(same spec that blew up on the dyno) dynoed 305/477 at the tires with a edelbrock 600cfm carb. http://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto..._5047868_n.jpg put a JD race 8.8/7.5 hybrid axle with 31 spline axles and true trac dif with 3.08 gears along with DA upper links and tubler NA lowers. also got biger 1 1/4" MC as well got a 17x9 with 5" bs for mock up.. not near as much tweeking is going to be needed as i thought.. http://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto..._4958487_n.jpg did do a dmax repower but not in the malibu but my 99C3500HD that the 6.5 deside to generate a 2 peice crankshaft. http://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...95812416_n.jpg thing to note Dmax runs the same standard GM 6/7 hole bolt pattern. autos run 6 bolt large BC 11" allison and 4l85 are the same. weighs about 850lbs and will fit nicely in the same BBC space.. got about 8,000 in the swap with tuneing can get ~650fwhp and over 30mpg(from other swaps i have seen) plan/goals are this 1g skid pag 11 1/4 mile 70+ slallom 100' less 60-0 20+ mpg 275s in the front and min 275 rear possible 315s, cross country DD realiable talked to mark at SC&C be usesing alot of their stuff. |
rear tires finally died.. bought 2 17x9 craggar soft 8 with 5" bs mounted some 275/40/17 tires on them.. for ****s and giggles i put them on the front..
please pardon the dirt... 700yd long gravel driveway does that easy.. and everything is a work in progress naturally... 5608 springs poly bushing.. stock a arms. ride height at finder wheel on the front is 25" i took the car out in my uncles plowed field with 4-6" ruts and did figure "8"s no rubbing which did include bottoming out the front.. need some .250 spacers for the back axle..315/35/17 is very feasible.. https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...00139290_n.jpg https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...15421728_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...57421887_n.jpg closest point of intersection https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...34414482_n.jpg https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...87823342_n.jpg 1 3/8 sway bar no rubing the 245/50/15 did rub https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...56970523_n.jpg |
made some progress..
https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...32013149_n.jpg https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...88790932_n.jpg https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...78735381_n.jpg https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...29925617_n.jpg picked up some PTFE fittings and 10' of -6 hose to plumb these together. the hydro-booster (AZ#70211 $265.00) can handle both large and small bore master cylinders metric O-ring fittings. i already have a large bore (1.417") MC in the car. its really tooo big for stock brake system.. that problem will work itself out when the bigger disc brakes get put on. power steering pump is (#7137) is off a 2000 chevy 3500HD.. and compatible with the dmax accessory mounting brackets. and march's mid mount PS brackets.. plus it has a bigger tank.. https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...65027272_n.jpg |
dont mind the dirt... got it washed but ran out of light...
https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...93586405_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...93346723_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...12054495_n.jpg trimmed both sides https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...42584626_n.jpg alignment tomorrow.. still got along way to go.. |
A long way maybe but every bit of progress is a good thing. Keep it going!
I see you park under a tree. I do too, huge tree covers my driveway and the road in front of the house. our cars get bombed nearly everyday. Dumb birds. |
got it on the rack to get played with and front tires balanced....
tech come out and says upper BJs are done.. no alignment...:bang: gues 6-7 years worth of road and cross country.. and poor grease maintance takes it toll... go next door... to AZ give them the car.. do you want the 20.00 version or the 10.00 version... 10.00 version pls ( geting tall BJs latter when the upper and lower get replaces with SPC units http://https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.aka...55777578_n.jpg Ben as for the list for the front SPC upper/lowers ~600lb springs AFX spindles JL9 C5 brakes hydro boost all front frame bracing rear still needs these http://jtracecraft.com/photogallery/...s/180100-1.jpg http://jtracecraft.com/photogallery/...s/180101-4.jpg plus im doing frame ties behind the springs and right before the rear bumper mounts.. redoing the fuel tank.. 17g just isnt enough even at 20mpg.. (only have about 14gl useable) looking at putting a 25-31g K5 blazer style tank in the back.. IDK maybe your buisness contact fo the fuel tank and come up with something... fill tube will most likely have to be moved https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...48480723_n.jpg plus 12" disc brakes.. as for bird ****... power line.. |
I have a 40 gal in my 77 Suburban and boy that's nice. Do you have the measurements for the factory wagon tank? It would be easy enough to remove the rear spare tire well and put a wider tank in there. The G Body wagon tank is pretty tall, I wonder how it compares to the 13 1/8" height of the 40 gal tank. Man if you got 30 mpg with a diesel and a 40 galllon tank you could just about run the power tour on one tank of gas, lol!
A decent custom stainless tank could run upwards of $1200. The ones Speedtech sells have internal baffling, a Corvette pump system for FI cars, and dual pick up tubes so you don't starve for cars in the corners. |
The 40g tank will hang lower than the OEM.. Plus you will have to rotate it 90* to fit.. Naturally all 3 the spare tire whole will go bye bye.. The 31 will basicly square the bottom part of the OEM tank to the rear
|
fuel tank size.. the rear part hangs ~11 below the floor board.. its ~22"x22" the forward part hangs ~14" down from the floor board..
this is the distance from the pinch weld at the very rear of the body.... the 25/31 tanks could be mounted normal F/R fashion the 40g would need to be turned 90* https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...55831137_n.jpg |
pressue washed the car.. to get alot of dirt and oil off it.. (rear main leaks) and search out new rust holes... picked up a ram powergrip 11" 1 1/8x26 clutch and PP.. re doing the exhaust with 68610 BBC shorty headers and dual 3" exhaust.. fix fuel tank leak.. replace PS pump.. ungrade the line to PTFE
seams like the easy way to fix this is mini tub..... right rear wheel https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...54052730_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...56109843_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...59677203_n.jpg https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...63938929_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...75049222_n.jpg |
pulled the body of... several of the body mount holes need fixed..
wash 2 Eastwood Internal Frame Coating w/Spray Nozzle 3 Rust Encapsulator Black 15 oz.aerosol 3 Extreme Chassis Black Satin 14 Ounce Aerosol https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...72112745_n.jpg |
