NRE Twin Turbo 515 BBC

Here's a few pics of an all aluminum, reverse cooled, hydraulic flat tappet 515 BBC with twin turbos that Nelson Racing Engines built. It made 1100HP on 91 octane and 1850HP on 109. It idles at 750 RPM.

Videos coming soon.

What are the dimenisons on that intercooler? It looks tiny in the pictures!

Also, what kind of car is it in? Judging by the fenders, it looks like quite the sleeper...

Musclerodz 08-04-2005 11:14 PM

I am no expert but I can't see only changing fuel spec would make 700hp more. No doubt by changing fuel they can change mixture curves and timing curves and gain a bunch but I clearly can't see or understand that much of a change unless the boost knob was turned up with the 109 and down on the 91. Please inform this young grasshopper.

You got it. High octane = more detonation resistance, which means you can run more boost, put in more fuel to go with the additional air, and more timing... and that means more power. Lots more power.

Ridler contender

I had heard through the grape vine that there was a 57' being built for the Riddler. Supposedly the car was at Nelsons having the engine done, I image that this is it.

Y-TRY 08-06-2005 10:05 AM

(holy crap)

nvawgn 08-08-2005 10:14 AM

sounds like we need an insider, somebody that will go undetected, ideas?

Turbo Tom

Looks nice Tom,
So who has some video footage of someone actually standing on it!
I'd like to meet the psycho that's willing to make a street quarter pass with that under his foot.
Let me know if you need a co-pilot!

Majik16106 08-12-2005 06:53 AM

wow, someone is going to go REAL fast, i would imagine a serious tub with some big ole ET slicks. i mean, 1100 on pump would be hard enough to drive. any idea what tranny? lenco? powerglide?

andrewb70 08-12-2005 01:51 PM

Any clues on cam specs or the boost level at both power level? What size are the turbos?

Andrew

TOM NELSON 08-12-2005 03:27 PM

The Motor Is 8to1 Compression The Cam Is One Of My Stage 1 Big Block Cams Very Very Reliable.the Motor Has Twin 80 Mm Turbos
If You Look We Made The Intake/ Valve Covers /and Timing Cover From Solid Billet Chunks Of Aluminum.weve Mounted The Water Pump To The Radiator And Reverse Cooled The Engine Running The Water Past Ex Valves First Then Into The Block.the Motor Runs 14 Psi On 91 With Not A Hint Of Detonation.and 31 Pounds On Kill We Made 42 Pulls At Way Over 1000 Hp Took The Pan Off And Checked Things Out The Bearings Didn't Even Look Like They Ever Were Taken Out Of The Package Before.it's Truly Amazing What Weve Been Doing With The Turbo Stuff Lately.last Week We Drove A Customers Car To The Track 1hour And A Half In Traffic 100+degreees Raced All Night 12 Passes And Crused Home Loafing At 1600 Rpm At Around 85 Mph Getting 20 Mpg.the Car Ran 139 Mph On 91 Octthe Motor Was Only Making 775 Hp.spinning The Tires At Over 100 Mph Steering Down The Track .a Modified Viper And 3.8 Porsche Went With Us.and We Could Pull Away From Them Like They Were Standing Still.these Are Definite Pro-touring Motors Of The Future.

Thank you mr Nelson for your personal update! I am sure there will be lot of market for reliable street turbo kits /engines. Just keep sending more pics

Majik16106 08-13-2005 08:28 AM

I think he just solved my dilemma...
Do you guys sell just engine parts? I know you guys like building complete motors, but for example, could i send you my heads, give you the motor spec and have you build a valve train for it? or have you send me one of your cams..
