Naming your car....why?

Just curious on why some guys name their cars. If you did , how did the name come about?

I never did name my car- except when my son was little- it was Dadda's 'pupple Chevy Chevy ' (its a 56 Chevy Belair modified). To him ALL cars were Chevy's (when he was about 2) and then hot rods were Chevy Chevys. Go figure

My wife names all my cars too..

My '69 was Camaro-Rex

Penny is.. well Penny

And the Fairlane is Monique...

lol

Names are just an easy way to identify a certain car. I could say "remember that silver '69 built by Mark Stielow 4 or 5 years ago?"

Or I could say "remember The Mule?"

Which is easier? Ok you can riddle me this.. why do we name ships?

deuce32 05-23-2008 09:47 PM

ships are named for identification purposes ...the good names are also on old war planes with the pinup gals on it as well

DWMotorsports 05-23-2008 09:47 PM

My '67 Cougar is "Ginger"
My 69 GTO was Angie (named after a girl I liked at the time.)
My 68 Chevelle....?

Spiffav8 05-23-2008 09:52 PM

My 67 Camaro is the Bucket. Because in the end, that's all it is.

because naming your man junk is so two weeks ago.

Mr.VENGEANCE 05-23-2008 11:49 PM

nah..

saying "something is soooo two weeks ago" like a highschool valley chick is sooo too ghey... ago

ProTouring442 05-24-2008 04:38 AM

In our case, I never really thought about naming the 442 until my wife made the smart alack comment that the car was "the red-headed other woman." Then, after looking up the word "inamorata," the name of a Pat Benatar album, and discovering it meant "someone who one is passionate about, frequently a mistress," well... it just kind of stuck.

Shiny Side Up!

Nine Ball 05-24-2008 05:39 AM

Come on, haven't you watched "Gone in 60 Seconds"? All cars have names

It is just more simple to have a project name and refer to it as such, instead of having to use a couple sentences to describe each quality of the car to relay the message.

Draco

We named this Draco because it is all blacked out well 95% of its blacked out.

I think today this is the best answer, really helpful when you have lots of similar cars.

GBodyGMachine 05-24-2008 07:56 PM

My cars dont really have names. My G-Body has a name on this board just so people can recognize the project when I post about it.
But, around the house I have the Buick, the Bike, the Truck, and the Trailer. Thats their names.

we used to name our cars the first song that came on the radio at start up...peggy sue, Maybelline, that was untill the 80's. Dancing Queen didn't do very well at the car shows. :_paranoid

romar 02 ss 05-25-2008 10:18 PM

I've never really thought about naming my car, I guess if I had to name it I would call it something like "The Thunderbolt Grease Slapper" or something goofy like that. (am I showing my age with the Tom Slick reference) Larry:D

Dayton 05-30-2008 02:28 PM
