Forgeline Wheels
Any recommendations of vendors that offer great service and discount pricing on Forgeline wheels? I need to purchase a set of 18" ZX3R's.
Thanks! GT |
Brakes too
Also looking for a vendor for Wilwood brakes as well.

Look up Prodigy Customs on here. From what I've read and seen on here, Frank at Prodigy is the man to talk to about Forgeline wheels:thumbsup: . He should be able to help you out with the brakes as well. He comes highly recommended by a lot of the members here. Good luck.

+1 for Prodigy.........good package pricing

I talked with Frank a couple of times today and sorted out the Brake and Wheel package. Onced received, I can mock up and nail down the Moser Dana 60 dimensions per Frank's advise. He was awesome to deal with and most DEFINATELY knows his stuff. :hail:
I'm ordering Forgeline 18x8, 18x12 ZX3P's with Gunmetal centers and satin black inner/outers. Also have Wilwood 14" 6 Piston SL in front and 14" 4 Piston SL for the rears - slotted/drilled with red calipers. Should perform well enough  and look smoking hot! I'll post pics in 5-6 weeks when the pretties get here. Wheels will almost look like the attached (ZX3P's instead of ZX3R's): |
I got mine form UUC motorwerks. they race what they sell. they can give you some brake options too. very knowledgeable staff. http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/

Those look KILLER!!!! |
Wow those are pretty killer!
Just curious how much green did that set you back? |
Oh, he has the hook up so it wasn't to bad at all.

Lug nuts
Frank,
For my setup - what McGard lug nuts do you recommend? Part #? I am looking for a set in black chrome. Wheels should be here in a matter of days... can't wait! Thanks! GT |
I like the splined lug nuts. They have black, not black chrome but black none the less. Get us some pics when they get under the car for mock up. I wish I could have seen these.

Wheels are in!

Wheels showed up earlier this week, just had the tires mounted (splined black mcgard lugnuts are here as well)
I'm in the process of mocking up to determine rear end width and not terribly happy with the clearances - mods are required. Take a look and let me know what you think - especially concerning the fender to tire clearance. With these pics, I have 1" clearance to the fender lip, and the lip is 1" wide. I think I need to trim 1/2" off the lip and roll it up a tad - then push the tires out another 1/2-3/4". Btw, tires are mocked with a ride height of 5" ground clearance... Opinions? |
Damn.. those are badasssss.

WOW! Are those automotive jewelry or what? There is no better quality wheel then Forgeline! Pretty damn light aren't they! Your going to love cleaning a wheel with the inner powder coated to. This often hard to clean area is a real bitch to clean on NON coated inners. For you, windex and a paper towel!
If I remember right (we just did one of these car), you can trim that lip about a 1/2" and gain some clearance without removing the lip or rolling the lip. I don't think there is any reason to trim more then a half inch though as the outer wheel house is the next interference after trimming that edge. I love the tire to panel profile, long as it does not rub. Just so long as we don't get that "sucked in" Pro Street look! Square them up and get me a measurement and we will get your Moser ordered. And again, WOW! Thanks! |
Those are bitchin:thumbsup:

Thanks Frank. You are correct - if I trim the lip, then outer wheel well will rub (has a bulge) I can modify that if needed.
What's the min recommend clearance on the lip? How about recommendations on suspension travel? Should be pretty stiff - is a compression distance of 2" enough? If not, I'll have to modify the outer wheel well - I can get up to 4" with little modification (I should probably just do it). I weighed the original steel wheels vs.the Forgelines. You are right that the wheels are light! The shipping boxes with 1 front and 1 rear wheel weighed 30lbs. The original 14" wheels with 205 tires was a portly 49 lbs. The front forgelines with 245's weigh only 2-1/2 lbs more (51 lbs) Most of the additional weight is the tire. The 335's & wheel was 63 lbs. Too bad they don't make lighter tires :) Couldn't imagine what a 18"x12" steel wheel & a 335 tire would weigh... Here is a better picture - outside, that shows how the satin black outers give the tire a thicker look... |
What's the min recommend clearance on the lip? 1/2" is pushing it, 3/4" would be better.
How about recommendations on suspension travel? You need 3 to 4 inch travel for those "hard bumps" Should be pretty stiff - is a compression distance of 2" enough? Thank you Frank for the help thus far!
I'll give you a call on Monday with the axle width. |
Great looking wheels
Do you have a project thread  |
Hello GT/Frank,
The wheel/tire combo looks great! I'm about ready to order Forgelines from Frank as well. By the way, what are the offsets/backspacing on the front and rear wheels? Since I am ordering my Moser rearend from Frank too I am trying to decide what size outside rim lip to buy. I like the distance on your wheels. Knowing these dimensions would give me a starting point. Thanks for your time, Ray |
Well Frank will set you up. I just spoke with him today to spec out my Moser 60.
I had Frank give me the max BS (deepest dish) he could on the rears. The backs were 18x12 wheels with 5.2BS. You can go deeper if you go with a larger diameter wheel. I am running the ZX3P's - the premium line I believe has a bit thicker hub - if you go with the race wheel (e.g. ZX3R) I think you can go just a little deeper too. I didn't like the race wheel center caps. Fronts are 18x8 with 5.2BS (spec'd this way for clearance on my front end - could have gone wider and deeper but I wanted a particular look). |
Thanks for the information. I am converting my car over from the "Pro Street" look to the "Pro Touring" look so I am trying to elimante the "deep" dish look on back that I already had. I had 15"x14" wheels on the car with a 5-1/2" backspacing (with a 46" housing end-to-housing end Ford 9" in the car). That gave me an outside/dish depth of roughly 8-1/2". In my opinion, that was too wide to give the car the proper look...
Your roughly 2.5" outside lip on your front wheels looks about what I am shooting for on the front of the car. I can adjust the front track with the control arm length on the front of my car to get to that lip. I am using 18" factory ZR-1 wheels on my car for my race tires and that is about what the corvette lip is on their 18"x10-1/2" wheels. To compliment this offset I planned on about 1-2" more outside lip on the rear wheels to flow with the fronts. I was planning on a 100% matte black wheel on my car but after seeing the matte black lips with the gun metal centers on your wheels has got me thinking... By the way, I am going with the ZX3R racing wheels on my car so the wheels do look just a slight bit different. Thanks again for your help! |
