Need some prayers for our little dog
Well guy's, Lisa and I need some prayers for our little dog. Many of you have met our little Brussels Griffin named Chia. She is the older of our two lilttle dogs. Well long story short our 8 LB dog was attached by 2 German Shepard's about 5:30 this evening and is struggling for her life as we speak.
We just left the emergency clinic and the X Rays show a Punctured lung (I guess she has 5 lungs), Heart is pushed to one side from air in her, a few broke ribs and a severe throat lacerations, and many minor . She is in surgery right now and will be in for 3 to 4 hours minimum. The Vet gave her a 50 / 50 chance when we hit the door, but if there is any good news here, after the Xrays he wants to raise the prognosis to 70%. So we are being positive, but he warned us over and over again that if she survives surgery, she will not be out of the woods by any means for a month. Were planning on heading to the vet around midnight, there was no reason for us to wait there. I am dying right now and crying like a little girl, and Lisa is a wreck. This is Lisa's little girl, and it will kill Lisa if Chia doesn't make it, and I be pretty damn sore too. This is just the coolest little dog ever and she is only 6 years old, far to young to go. Most would think I am rough and tough dude, but this is making a really sobbing sissy out of me. It's like one of my kids is hurt! And our other little Dog Gizmo watched the entire thing and is whimpering and crying looking for Chia, which makes us feel even worse. Chia pretty much raised Gizmo. Man I hope she makes it! So if anyone has some good connections upstairs, I would appreciate the help right now. http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...oms/boat03.jpg http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...s/P1010102.jpg http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...oms/witch2.jpg http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...oms/Busted.jpg http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...stoms/4th2.jpg |
Frank, I'm very sorry to hear that. I hope she pulls through.
|
you got it Frank.
Jody |
Hope puppy is done well. Me & the wife don't have kids so our 2 dogs are kids, so I feel your pain. So we'll send up a prayer.
|
|
Attitude is everything buddy.....I hope she pulls through.
|
That sucks..... we'll all think good thoughts for you and her....
If there is anything I can help with let me know. BBBD's (bit by big dogs) can be tough. There can ba alot of trauma and things can go well and then go to hell in a handbasket real fast or they do great...often hard to call at first. Sounds like the biggest concern is the throat injury....is her trachea lacerated or just the skin ??? Sounds like she has a pneumothorax....air inside the chest that allows the lung to collapse...those usualy do pretty good...BTW, technically she has 2 lungs with a total of 7 lobes :) Often its all the damage to the muscle etc that can be unpredictable and that make the body do wierd things...infection, bleeding issues, septic shock etc etc.... |
Throat damage is all muscle damage. But no nerve damage, no jugular damage. Actually deep as it is barely bleed there. She is moving her head, using all legs. That actually is the least concern. it is realy more the air and collapsed lung accordign the the Vet. We shall she.
I feel better just typing something and hearing the support goes a long way. I really think she will make it. Positive thoughts as mentioned above. Gosh this sucks! |
Hey Frank I hope everything goes well for the little one.
Man I am the same way about our Dog, I have a Chocolate Lab we picked up from the pound, I was fighting my wife about getting one the whole time, She wanted it and I didnt, and I honestly have to say he has become a child to me. I cant wait to get home to play with him. He has his own room, T.V.(so he doesnt get lonely during the day)..LOL, and wahtever else he could desire. He got to us good... |
Frank, you are like a dad to many of us on this site, my prayers go out as we speak, my heart sinks for you guys. May all go well with a quick miraculous healing, may God reveal himself in a mighty and powerful way to the vet and all involved- In Jesus name...Amen!
keep us updated, I will subscribe to this tread waiting for updates. -Chris |
That sucks Frank. I'm pullin for her.
|
You got my Prayers to Frank, My Dog means more to me then anything in the world so I know how you are feeling.
Tonny |
you got my prayers also frank, but by the sound i your last post i think shes gonna make it also...
|
I feel for you
I've spent enough on my three dogs over the last 10 years to build a car.and never gave it a second thought. Keep thinking positive.
|
...sad to hear about her. Hope she pulls a full recovery. Damn, them germans are my favorite breed too. Better show the owners some pay back.
|
Frank our thoughts are with you and we wish you the best, Carrie treats our little dogs the same way and its always sad to hear something like this.
|
Frank,
were praying Rick and Jen |
Hope she is better soon Frank
|
Dogs always have a special place in my heart. Hope the little gal make's it through. You got my prayers.
|
OK, She made it through surgery. Doc did not find it to be any worse then he thought before going in. But she is just realy tore up. I guess the cut at the neck was really as deep as it could be without killing her instantly. The lung puntures(s), there are 2 of those, are the big concern.
So while we are not out of the woods, we have cleared another hurdle. It's 3 AM now and were are exhausted. Guess we will be back down there in the morning to see here. Were hour by hour right now. I sure feel silly about all this over a dog. I guess Lisa and I have been really lucky in life and have not had to deal with anything like this with family. And our pour little boy dog Gizmo is only a couple years old and is just crying looking for Chia. He watched the entire thing and was howling his lungs out. I think were taking him to visit Chia tomorrow morning. I'm baked, I going to try to sleep. |
Good luck
Frank I wish the best for your dog and your family. It's crazy how a rough tough guy can get to attached to a dog but I am the same way. We have a great little dog as well and I am sure if anything happend to her it would tear me up as well. Take care of your self and the Mrs. and let the Vets do there thing. Dogs are pretty tough and can come back very strong after getting hurt.
|
I love dogs. You got it Frank.
|
Frank -
She'll make it through. Just watch. We're all pullin' for you. Hang in there. -Bruce |
Sending over my best wishes. I hope everything turns out well.
|
You got it & I hope she has a smooth recovery.

All the very best Frank & Lisa - we're thinking of you and your little ones. Please keep us posted as best you can.

Jenny http://photos-e.ak.facebook.com/phot...64988_4477.jpg Hannah http://photos-f.ak.facebook.com/phot...64989_4753.jpg Scout Frank, these 3 are my kids! Don't feel bad for being broken up....it makes you more of a man in my opinion. Lisa and I and our 3 "kids" are all wishing a speedy recovery to your "family member". |
You know I can relate to your pain with our recent loss of Athena. I still get in the mood to cry because I miss her so much. They arn't dogs, they're family that counts on us to be there.
Just know that you're doing everything you can, and that's all you can do. You guys are in Jennifers and my prayers.. here's hoping that your little pooch pulls though and we're really glad to hear she made it over the first hurdle... They really arn't just dogs.. they are family. |
Frank,
I'am pulling for you. I know how you feel. One moment you think your big and bad but little do people know I'am the biggest momma's boy when it comes to my little ones. Twig and Smalls my to little Italin Greyhounds come to work with me every day. Twig got attacked by a cat not long ago and there teeth and nails are very dirty and Twig got a real nasty infection. I don't know what I would do with out them. Just hang in and the good Lord will let you know what's write!! |
Lisa and I want to thank everyone, This is like have 1000s of family.
Well, we just went and saw Chia about noon. Took Gizmo too. Lisa and I are better in the sense everything went well, but my gosh she is so tore up, it just kills us to see it. Hopefully the shock is over now and it won't be some emotional going forward. There are lots of concerns going forward, but everybody at the Emergency Vet thinks we have a good chance here. Just sounds like it is going to be a long recovery. I am posting a link to a picture. The picture is pretty grapihc of her sticthes. She looks so bad I don't want to post it in public. Also, I did not want to see it everytime i go into this post. You cannot even see the staples in her neck going 270 degrees around. If you look at the picture, you see we still need prayers, we are by no means out of the woods. Damn it! I am getting mad. they said we can come back around 7:00, so you know where we will be. .http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...s/DSC00662.jpg |
Wow Frank, man, that's awful. I hate to hear stories like this. Hang in there, looks like she's in very capable hands. She must be a fighter! Good luck!
|
Frank & Lisa, you and the little ones are in our prayers. Just keep positive thoughts!!
|
How did this happen? :(
Hang in there brother!! |
Just read the post Frank. Sorry to hear this happened. Melissa and I have three boxers that are spoiled rotten. They are our children. Sounds like your pup is in good hands. We will keep you guys in our prayers.
|
sorry to hear that, goodluck....
|
I can't imagine how you feel. I'm an animal lover too. I hope she's ok.
|
Hey Frank
That doesnt look too bad to me, but obviously my scale of good/bad is alittle different than an owners...but looks can be deceiving. Thats one of the things I tell owners....on the surface, the tissue can look pretty good but under that the muscle can look like hamburger. There arent a bunch of wound drains or a chest tube etc etc, so the wounds are probably not too bad. The bruising doesnt look too bad either...all good signs. I've seen alot worse and had the patient recover quickly. Did they actually go into her chest to repair the lung or just clean up and close the chest wound ?? I cant tell by the pix. Based solely on the pix, I'd say her prognosis looks pretty good. Once again...if there is anything I can help you with (clarify a treatment or diagnosis you are confused about etc), dont hesitate to ask... ned |
Hi everyone, this is Lisa
I would like to thank everyone for your prayers and well wishes, it must be working! I am reminded of how lucky we are to have such wonderful communities to turn to. You guys are the best. It has been a very rough ride for the last 24 hours. I will never get the vision of those two dogs tugging at her and feeling so helpless that I could not jump over the 6 foot privacy fence quick enough to save her. Chia is a big part of our family. She came to us as a puppy around 4 weeks old weighing 1.5 pounds and nearly dead. Our 22 LB cat brought her to us on my birthday. We tried to find out if anyone was missing a puppy around the neighborhood. We could not find anyone, so I have felt like she was a special gift from heaven? Mr Big either stole her from a litter or found her after she wandered off. Either way Mr Big must have known I wanted a little dog. Mr big and Chia were best of friends, Rest his sole, he lived a long life. Chia terrorized Mr Big and he put up with it! The huge cat could have taken her out with one swat of the claw, but never hurt her. They played like brother and sister! She was so tiny and so young, we had no clue what breed she was, or anything about her. We just knew if we feed her she would grow. So Chia, for Chia pet, seemed logical. We had to nurse her back to life as a baby and she has a very strong will to survive. We will nurse her back to life again, I just know it's not her time to go! This evening we are starting to feel a little more secure about her survival. We waited until they checked the blood work before we visited tonight We saw her at 10PM, The Doc says her blood is perfect, she is off oxygen, and their weening her off of the pain medication. She was sitting up when we got there, still very weak and groggy, but somewhat alert . She looks so much better than she has been in the previous hours. She is bald now, but we assured her that bald is beautiful! I sure wish they would stop assuring us that we are not out of the woods yet. She still has not eaten, even after Frank went to Steak and Shake and brought her back a chicken sandwich. The Doc says that it may be that she is still in shock and the meds may also have something to do with her appetite. We will go there tomorrow first thing int he morning and bring her one of her favorite "on the road" foods, an egg and sausage Mcmuffin. Thank you again. I know it has helped Frank, and myself, to be able to get this out. http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...ms/Babypic.jpg 6 months old http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...s/P1010101.jpg |
Just finished reading this story and I’m sorry to hear what has happen. I am a loving father of two Pomeranians; they are the world to me and my wife. I sit here and can’t imagine how I would feel if this would happen to me. It would kill me if something like that happen to them. I hope she will pull threw for your family and may God bless her little heart.
Best wishes! -Brian |
My best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery. We have 5 dogs - some rescue. We've spent alot of time making our property safe for them. Yet when going on a trail, people will let their dogs loose from a leash which, to me, is irresponsible and dangerous.
Again, lots of good energy your way! |
