Project "Redfire" 69 Camaro
So I've finally made some real progress on Redfire, so I'd thought I'd share some pics of the metal work. I'm attempting all the metal work myself which includes new everything. I'm concentrating on getting back to a roller before working on the suspension and drivetrain. Ron
Here's the new inner quarter replacement on the pass side. This $70 panel saved me at least day of fabbing http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...ireupdate1.jpg re-skinning the pass door, the goodmark skin fits good. The door fitting on the car is different story. http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...ireupdate2.jpg and here's some pics of the DSE closeout and blower motor smoothing. I welded the DSE using rosets (sp?) from behind to keep the outer lip intact. http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...ireupdate3.jpg http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...ireupdate4.jpg http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...ireupdate5.jpg |
Here's the last pic on the closeout and the back-half mocked together with the poor fitting deck lid. I'm going to try the original as it measures anywhere from an eighth to a quarter wider!!!

Cool, that's a lot of work.

I've gotten alot of great advice from members here and as a novice I really appreciate it!! :lateral:
Here's some pics from last month when I installed the new goodmark speaker shelf which actually installed without a fight! It goes from the back seat to inside the trunk and includes the weather strip lip. Ron http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...tm/update7.jpg http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...tm/update8.jpg |
Very nice !

Looks good

slow progress
Made a little more progress, new inner/outer rockers, inner WWs, toe pans, and one piece floor pan installed. The inner GM WWs fit great. Wish I could find more GM metal.

So it's been a while since my last update, just now perfecting the gaps and measurements on the quarters, trunk, and tail pan. Until then, here's a few pics of the MD valance mock up.

Just got my vent delete CF cowl from Anvil. This stuff is too nice to paint over.... :unibrow: http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...fire-cowl2.jpg http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...fire-cowl1.jpg |
Installed trunk drop offs and inner tailpan.

Bye bye roof panel!
20 minutes and 3 cutoff wheels to remove the roof panel (not including window/rail seams) Will also have to replace front most roof support. Hopefully this is *last* surprise!
http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...ulyupdate4.jpg http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...ulyupdate5.jpg Pic of the new roof panel, hopefully it will fit well: http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...ulyupdate3.jpg |
Removed old roof rails and remaining roof panel edges at the front and rear windows by grind out the spot welds.
Installed new roof drip rails: http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...ulyupdate6.jpg http://sites.google.com/site/redfire...ulyupdate7.jpg |
rust never sleeps
So besides the rust along the window channels on the roof panel, I knew this small hole was hiding a bigger problem.... check out the pics, the second one is the underside of the roof panel near the driver's a-pillar.

Like you said Ron. RUST NEVER SLEEPS!!!
Good luck with the build and keep us posted. |

Sorry, I just now saw this post. You can run a front bumper with reduced mounting points. I'm gonna run a smoothed bumper (no fangs/bolts) tucked up close to the body. |
eye candy

Nice looking handles. Your doing a nice job on the body, keep up the good work.

Just got my Razor carbon fiber and billet quarter gilles. Talk about a work of art! Big thanks to Ring Brothers, especially Staci and Mike! More pics to follow as I get them installed...Ron

Wow those look sexy!!
|
Those Ring Brothers parts look really nice Ron! Can't wait to see them mocked up. Are you planning on painting the CF or leaving it bare?
BTW, when you modify the front bumper, you might want to make some sort of support bracket for the middle. We did the same thing and noticed it sagged a little bit without one. Matt |
Yeah Matt, they are awesome! Plan on leaving them bare glossy. Will probably run the Anvil spoiler too. Haven't made a decision on running the hood with exposed CF yet. Will paint over the Anvil vent delete cowl. Your's came out killer BTW.
Yeah I need to fab up a support bracket for middle on the front valance and bumper. thanks for the tip! Ron |
I love those quarter vent sections, They'll look great .
|
Man, those look killer.:hail:
|
Ron, those qtr panel inserts look awesome---as do the handles---love that Marquez lower valance---what a great car you have coming together---keep putting up pics--looking forward to your next round of progress--

Nothing too exciting, but I did find some time to replace the front center and left roof brace. The last of the evil rust.
