wheel choice, what do you think??
 

Hi, I know wheel choice is a very personal thing, but what do you guys think of these, positive & negative comments would be appreciated. They come in sizes 15", 17" & 18" silver, polished or charcoal. If you look at the pic of Jodys car in black, this is pretty similar to how my '69 will look. How do you think these wheels would look. Look forward to your views. :)
ps was thinking of charcoal.

I don't think I've ever seen those in 17" or 18", I'd like to see that. It would be retro and performance oriented at the same time, just like the billet rally wheels. :thumbsup:

The wheels are made by a company called Superlite.
www.superlite-wheels.com They are replica Minilites as used by the '69Trans Am Camaros of Roger Penske.I thought it might add a new twist to the PT scene,as you say retro/performance whilst being up to date in sizes. I'm gonna have to run 7x15's of this wheel for when I race the car in historic races, but thought it might look good with bigger dia wheeels for road use. What d'ya all reckon?? :)

Any further thoughts on these wheels?Do you think they fit in with the PT look or are they a bit "too old" looking?

You say you have to have 15 inchers when racing, then you can't have any big brakes in it.

The original reason for the larger wheels was for saloonracing to be able to fit largebrakes within the original outer wheel diameter, therefore the low profile tires. If lowprofile tires was really good why do F1 cars have extremely high profile tires?

The rims themselves, I'll say anything goes. It's up to your personal taste and that is very different among us all.

Personally I like that retrorace look and with 15" and higher profile tires it will be cool.

Will it be like this Swedish classic racer, just restored to its 1970 specs.

Thanks Jan, the class I'm gonna run is Historic Road Sports so unfortunately I have to run standard diameter brakes. However, my friend races his '69 Mustang but with upgraded racing pads, shoes etc & the stopping power is awesome, it just takes a while to get everything working right in the first place. Thats why I posted the question on another part of the forum about brakes & to how much better the bigger ones were over stock in a 30-0, 60-0 & 100+-0 but no-one answered. Seems people just buy them & run with them. With racing however you want to know EXACTLY what differences any changes make. The plan is to run the Superlites in a 15" for racing & then fit bigger ,17" or 18" wheels & tyres for road use to bring the car up to date looks wise. Hence the question do those wheels look dated.?
I just love the picture of that race car. At one point I was going to "clone" the Penske/Donohue car but changed direction after finding you guys on the forum. :thumbsup:

Thanks Steevo, ok another question one for you guys :) , black, charcoal, silver or polished centres. What about running spinners, would it look better or worse?

Sorry I missed your brake question.

I don't have any comparison figures but my C4 brakes are awesome. It stops in no time. The otherday I did a hard brake just for the fun of it at a stoplight and my woman slipped of the seat down on the floor :D . She wasn't strapped up at that time. From 50 kmh to stop is just in a few meters!!

So I can for sure tell you that it is a BIG difference, just not how much bigger.

The reason I wanted to find out was that my friends racing Mustang can out stop Subaru Imprezas & Mitsubushi Evos' with their large vented four wheel discs. It seems that it gets to a point where it's down to tyre grip as well I guess.The braking on my '69 will be comparable to that if all goes to plan. What colour for the wheels do you think? :)

I'd have to say the charcoal wheels. It gives it a meaner look especially if you have a dark car. If it's a light car, it basically contrasts it. I think I'd actually go with the Rally's though if I had to do it in a 15". And yes they do look dated but what's the sense of having modern wheels in a vintage race? :rolleyes:

yeah thanks, The point is that I have to run 15" wheels for racing but thought that for road use i'd use 17 or 18 " wheels, hence the modern look for the road. Just wondered if it would look odd with larger Superlites on. The trouble is with projects is that you get so embroiled with things you don't always "look outside the box" & figure that things don't look right 'til it's too late. I'm definately gonna use the Superlites for racing as with the way they're designed, they draw air through the "spokes" & help to cool the brakes dramatically. :)
