Check out my new Speed Tech subframe...it's awesome!!!!
Yesterday I went to Killer Customs and picked up my new Speed Tech subframe. I got to meet Blake(Killer69) and Roger, both very nice guys. I got to see a few of the projects they have on the go....all I can say about the quatily of work there is...:wow:
Back to the subframe. If anyone is considering getting a new subframe for a 68-74 Nova/67-69 Camaro/Firebird/Trans Am...I highly recommend this one. I got the bare frame as I already had their control arms and got a smoking deal on a Unisteer rack and pinion kit(thanks to Dark Angel). The bare frame was $1000 cheaper than some of the other company's bare frames. Here are a few pics. If you want to see more pics of it, go to my build thread. And definately check out thier site: http://www.speedtech-performance.com/ http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/d.../PICT00045.jpg |

Scherp,
Glad to see you seem impressed by it. I ordered one last week and am expecting it to arrive any day now. Needless to say, I am salivating (OK, not really). Can you tell if there is a big difference in weight compared to the bare stock subframe? Mike |
Big difference. This one is about 125 pounds. I was able to move it around the shop way easier and didn't have to worry about killing myself in the mean time.
|
What is a "G-Mod?"
|
Wow those engine cross members look hefty, they should be nice and rigid.

I'm also going to be ordering the Speed Tech high clearance control arms that are designed for the subframe. They allow a 10" rim with 275 tires on the front. Who'd of thought. Will post pics when I get them. |

do a search on gullstrand mod. its basically lowering the mounting holes for the upper controllarms, it gives a better caster gain.. sort of like a shelby lowering of a mustang.. only its on a 1.gen.. .. and the Speed Tech subframe has elongated holes so it in effect has adjustable camber, and caster gain... only it will be a biatch to dial it in.... taller balljoints will accomplish the same |

The idea is that yes they are adjustable the upper end of the slot is the stock location and the lower end of the slot is the g mod location, and the alignment will not be a bitch as long as you set the arms in the same location ( vertically ) on both sides. the easy way is if you want More Camber gain set it in the Gmod location if you really don't care set it in the stock location.
if you really want to mess with it your on your own. Psst! Blake! The moving of the upper control arm with the slots going down and rear ward adds caster in addition to camber.
The easy way to align the frame is with a digital angle finder on the cross shaft to make sure they are in the same angle during the alignment period. Killer product by the way. Tyler |

Correction, thanks tyler, i suppose what i ment was that it mostly affects the camber curve/change but yes it will add caster that could be shimmed out/or back to your chosen setting,
some have asked if the Gmod will work with a tall spindle also like the ATS unit and the answer is no, well not no just not necessary the tall spindle and the Gmod both accomplish the same thing in different ways, feel free to add to the discussion tyler |
my comment about adjustable castor gain was thay one could in theory set the shaft at a different anglt than stock as the slots allow lifting the front bolt up. while leaving the rear down... this will give a different castorgain and antidive... and that will... be the proverbial biatch to dial in....
|
i theory yes... but there is not that much "slop" ( technical term) the shafts really only want to slide parallel in the slots. they might rock(for lack of a better word) 1 deg.
so it really is not something to be concerned about. |
Got the Speed Tech high clearance control arms that come with the Speed Tech subframe complete package. Here's a few pics the control arms and sway bars. More pics in my build thread. These things are awesome. Speed Tech say you can put a 10" rim with 7" backspace with this package.

For anyone interested in the Speed Tech subframe...I thought I'd post pics of it powder coated and assembled. This thing is awesome.

How much would i save going the speed tech route over DSE? What are the major differences as for a quality and options? I don't mean to hi jack the thread by any means it just seems that you guys have a lot of knowledge on these products. I assume y'all have done extensive research so i' m wondering if you could enlighten me on the 2 frames that i will be buying in the near future. I was leaning dse but after reading some more reviews I'm still considering Speed tech. I guess i just want the pros and cons affordability and function of both
sorry if its hard to understand blame ambien.:fluffy: |
The Speedtech frame is right at $2k less then a DSE.
|
Another interesting question on this. I know of someone that put a LS2 in his car on stock sub and used the mounts that dropped the engine to get his KB to fit under a stock height cowl. Does the speedtech frame lower the engine any? There is a possibility of running a blower on my car and I really want it to fit under a stock cowl hood.
Maybe not the right area to ask but we're discussing the speedtech frame so worth a shot! William p.s. That frame looks NICE! |
I've seen the Speed-Tech sub frame in person on Tony's car, KARMA and was very impressed. I thought it looked killer. I am going to do the Speed-Tech subframe and rear as well for sure if I cannot afford to go DSE.
For will69camaro; I do believe Tony is running a supercharger on his car so it may fit under the hood without any worries. Very nice sub frame. ENJOY!!!  |
thanks glad to hear you like it, and just a note our rear is the same price as the other one

hey anthony what procharger setup are you running on your lt1? I need some brackets to work with my lt1 i have a d1sc kit i got on trade thats for a 95 lt1 fbody but it mounts to low.
|
I am using the stock LT1 f-body bracket that mounts all accessories on the pass side head and then the standard SBC ProCharger kit that mounts it high on the DS head.
The LT1 ProCharger bracket mounts it too low, you would have to notch the frame in order to use it. Here's a mock up pic. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e.../DSCF19301.jpg |

did you have to do anthing special to space the bracket out? Doesnt the procharger set out further on the lt1 than the sb? |
