79 Camaro build - drag/autocross/track

2014 UPDATE - Autocross/track mode begins page 8 - let's kill some cones!

A lot of the pics no longer work in here, so here's the general idea:

Original Post

Not sure how many of you saw my original thread a while back in the intro forum, but I thought I'd post some updated pics from the last several months. Full specs and a bit of background can be found at http://www.acmeautopartsonline.com/camaro/

Hopefully we'll be dropping the motor in and it will be heading to the painter's in the not so distant future. Anyway, I'll let the pictures do the talking.

More pics will be added shortly..

silver63c10 07-14-2008 12:05 AM

Thanks for the comments guys, we're getting more and more determined as we make more progress.

Got some more done the past few weekends - glass is in, brakes and clutch are ready to bleed, exhaust and headers are ready to be final welded and painted, and it should be going to the painters' weekend after next, pending the completion of the Volkswagen they were shooting this weekend. Inching forward ever so slowly

Thanks again for the compliments..slight update..

We hauled it away Thursday night..should be getting some shininess laid down in the next few weeks. They've already worked over the doors, decklid, and one fender. Same guys/shop that did our 63.

The shop feels really empty with it gone..

They'll actually just be the gloss black finish of the aluminum, same material the dash is made from. With the exhaust painted I don't know that it really needs them though.

Got the drivers side belts put in tonight and dad made some more progress on the wiring, I'll get some pics uploaded Sunday night.

not bad keep up the good work.

silver63c10 11-16-2008 10:35 PM

As promised, new pics and a video. Looonnng weekend. We worked till around 11 Friday night, 7 Saturday night, and 8 tonight, and finally got to fire it. Still have to wire the alternator, fan, and RacePak, but we're getting really close to laying down some rubber.

Didn't have my good camera with me so I've only got a crappy cell phone vid, it's not quite as loud as it makes it seem. I was pretty surprised at how quiet (relatively) it is inside the car.

Audio level is through the roof on here, so adjust your speakers before you hit play :_paranoid

More progress this weekend, got the dash sorted out, everything is functioning on it; all the rear lights are functional, just have to get the front lights hooked up and the nose on. Then a bit of front end set up and and squaring up the rear and it will be ready to hit the road... (!!!!!)

Racepak, I'm liking it a lot already..

Great Project

This is a great looking Camaro. I love the look of the soft 8's. That car just looks plain wicked. Can't wait to see how she performs. Great job on the build.

silver63c10 12-07-2008 04:56 PM

Well, I'm a happy boy after today...

http://www.acmeautopartsonline.com/c...s/IMG_4653.jpg

Still got a few things to hang on the front and carpet to put in, but it's right where we were hoping, with 53/47 distribution. With the frame we built for the nose it shouldn't add much more than 20 or 30 pounds to the front. Also made some stands for our dollies to make aligning everything easier.

http://www.acmeautopartsonline.com/c...s/IMG_4658.jpg

Would have gotten started on hanging the nose, but we had to take off to look at an enclosed trailer. Not bad for a few hours work.

G-Body 12-07-2008 06:47 PM

Looks like a way fun build!
That car is a wheel change away from Absolute Beauty!

Mr.VENGEANCE 12-08-2008 12:21 AM

LOVE it

glad to see one of those done up.
