Stripe or No Stripe?

Special thanks to Ben Hermance for the atch renderings!

Car is in for paint right now... so stripe or no stripe?

Jon at DriverzInc hooked me up with Rushforth Superspoke wheels and tires and Tobin at KORE3 set me up with C6 Z51 brake kits front and rear.

Brakes should be here next week and wheels/tires the week thereafter.
Just in time for the car to come home from paint!

Let me know your thoughts...

V/R,
Ty

No Stripes---- Looks Hot

BallnRods 07-01-2008 09:21 AM

The only thing that throws off the stripe for me is the way it hooks back at the bottom. I also think those scoops are screaming for either a flat black stripe or 2 (or matching color to hockey stripe).

Mr.VENGEANCE 07-01-2008 06:22 PM

stripe..

especially if you do a side shot of the car it would look good..

the 3 point angle prolly isnt convincing.. but i can see it..

camcojb 07-01-2008 06:48 PM

Ty,

listen to me................ no stripe! :D Actually, do what you want, not what we want. That's what really matters. Car will be bitchin' either way.

I think the car would benefit from a little graphic treatment, but this particular stripe looks a little "mustachy" for me. But like Jody says, it's your car and you should do what you like.

Stripe - but the lower 'tail' should end about 6 inches in from the front wheel opening. (instead of almost touching like in the pic.)

bamadale 07-01-2008 08:08 PM

i would say no stripe but do it the way YOU want. you're the one that will drive and show it.

Stuart Adams 07-01-2008 08:15 PM

A stripe would work, just not that stripe. Leave it off. Cool car.

Steve Firebird 07-01-2008 08:28 PM

TWO TONE IT:unibrow:
but seriously
I am not sure about that exact stripe but I think some type of stripe or graphics would be nice

gearheads78 07-01-2008 09:30 PM

no stripe or at least not that one

G-Body 07-01-2008 09:30 PM

A camaro themed Stripe will not work on a trans am

The reason why there was even an attempt made at a side stripe is because Ty had made a comment that there was a lot of blank space between the wheel and the edge of the nose after the side marker was removed. That stripe is one way to resolve that.

The original concept actually had that bottom part extending through the wheel well and terminating right before the door. Ty wanted to keep the stock fender vent so I truncated it before the wheel....making it a little too much like a SS Camaro stripe. I think with some refinement it could work well and it's something different on a Firebird. Personally, the only factory stripe I thought ever looked good on a Firebird is the center TA stripe that leads into the shaker hood. The twin "rally" hood stripe thing is almost like the default stripe, kinda tired of seeing that. All the factory side stripes that came on them don't really do much for the car either.

I actually voted for no stripe.

I agree.

The stripe in this case gives it more attitude. If you're not certain, maybe go with a more subtle stripe. In my case, I would like a stripe, but will likely go with a color that will not be so noticeable or maybe even ghost stripes. Although, that probably won't work with your color scenario?

Stripe or no stripe, your car looks awesome.

What he says... Emphasizing on "Not that stripe"

Lead.

buickfunnycar.com 07-03-2008 03:31 PM

Personally I like the idea of a stripe, maybe this one just needs to be fine-tuned.

EvilTwin 07-03-2008 07:33 PM

I love a clean car but some graphic or stripe would be cool.... not really crazy about the hockey stripe but definately some kind of graphic.. just not sure what...

great looking car!

72OBSESSED 07-05-2008 04:02 PM

No stripe.. at least not in the front.

I like the silver but I think something that works with the rear body line would compliment the bird a little more.
The front end of these cars are already killer. I think adding more to the front makes the car look unbalanced. Those scoops are cool enough by themselves.

It's a gorgeous car. Just as the others said, do what you want. Good luck!

brunoz28 07-08-2008 11:54 PM

I like the color combination but i think the stripe could be tweaked a little.

rich-allen 11-27-2008 09:46 PM

I think the car needs a stripe, especially since you went with powder coated centers on the wheels. The stripe helps to break up the solid color and it make the rims pop.

Rims are usually the first thing to get noticed.

Ty,no stripe....

awr68 11-28-2008 10:30 AM

My vote is in for no stripe.

Lenie 11-28-2008 10:58 PM

Really diggin' the stripe.

lhkustoms 11-29-2008 12:38 AM

I vote for the stripe breaks up the color a bit and adds some flare

Weldon0405 11-30-2008 02:13 AM

IMO... It needs stripes to bring the powder coated wheels in a little better. Maybe small stripes on the side of the scoops similar to what Steve did on Penny's CF hood and something on the rear quarters? But like a few others have said, just because we like it doesn't mean it will be perfect for your tastes.

Newer Renderings

This thread is an older one that's been resurected... Ben Hermance has done some newer renderings that can be seen in the build thread:

Let me know what you think!
