Malitude is up and running
Got the turbo back Saturday, and the ps pump showed today. Appears that everythings good now, no smoke at idle yet, and I ran it long enough to be smoking. :hail:
Swapped gears while the car was down because the set in the car had a very loud whine on decel; turned out the coast side was wiped out but everything else was perfect. Also found a stock 4L80E pan and have over 5" ground clearance minimum. Pulled the wheels apart also in the interim, and had the centers powder coated silver. Looks way better to me, as I pictured a light colored wheel with the darker paint. I just wish this new camera took a decent picture; I've tried every setting, even called Kodak, and it just spits out poor quality pics. The car looks much better in real life, but here's a few pics to get a good idea of how it ended up. http://www.camcojb.com/temp/100_0164.jpg http://www.camcojb.com/temp/100_0168.jpg http://www.camcojb.com/temp/100_0169.jpg |

Wow. Looks fantastic. Love the new wheel color in the light. The paint looks like it changes colors depending on the light - awesome.
You did an awesome job. Congrats. Looking forward to some video with the wheels rolling. |
Pictures never do them justice. Looks great and I agree on the wheels.

This post is 2 fold.......
First - Car looks great Jody. Wheels look killer - I agree like the silver better. The new valve covers look great also. Second :( Sorry to hear about the smoking again. That sucks big time - no pun intended. Hopefully it is nothing major. Car does look amazing Jody. Nice job Brent |
Jody That car looks amazing. I hope your car kicks the habit soon.
|
Jody,
The car looks killer. It's really making you work, but you're good at hanging in there and making it come together. We all see what it takes from builds like yours and it better prepares us for the little battles along the way. Enjoy the 'rita! |
Looks Wicked , i am sure the smoke is just cuz it wants to be driven and is it's way of rebeling............ hopefully it is nothing major
|
Jody did you get to drive the car and put the turbo under boost? I'll bet the seal "ring" didn't get all the way seated yet...I hope it's that simple. :)
Car looks great and the wheels are perfect!!!! Jeff |

I have gone out and flogged it a bit at that boost, and that didn't seem to help, in fact it was after that, that the car started smoking out the drivers pipe. I'll probably go out and beat the living crap out of it tomorrow, because if I gotta pull the engine I've got very little to lose............ :drive: :morepower Jody |

It doesn't have to run for me to take pictures.. not even for the action shots ;) Hang in there.. it will all be worth it in the end! |
The car looks awesome, Jody. I'd love to check it out sometime. It's too bad about the smoking though. And don't worry. I won't be calling the air resources board about your smoking vehicle, so they won't be offering you the $500 for it so they can crush it. But Charley might.

the wheels looks awesomw with the car now jody!!!! they are a bad azz looking wheels the way they were, they just didnt flow with the car, i thought it was the wheel it self though and not just the color...boy did you prove me wrong!!! lol looks awesome man...
o the turbo woes... it will all be worth it in the end, maybe:P |
Looks great. I like the choice on changing color on the wheels also. Hope you get it worked out.

Heck yeah flog it HARD! Sounds like your just running on the wastegate spring, crank that thing down tight and give her heck... I hope it's just a matter of seating that ring. I'm itching to see video of the beast in action. |
:hail: :hail:
Said many times, but I'll say it again... AMAZING car, Jody. |

Give that man a prize.. plus I shoot for Super Chevy. Only Fords and Mopars are outside my realm ;) |
:hail: Car is looking great Jody . Hang in there I'm sure you'll get that turbo issue sorted out. Joe

thanks again. I pulled the plugs on that side of the engine, all spotless, no oil. Did a leakdown (cold) and all were 5-6%. Pulled the valve cover and all seals are intact and accounted for.
Not sure what it is, but I'm going to put some miles on it and see what happens. Only smokes at idle, and only after you stop for 15-20 seconds or so. It also will only make 10 psi of boost. The wastegates are set at 13 psi (springs) so I'm confused on this one too.......... It has a manual boost controller that worked fine with the other motor. I've checked the lines several times as well as the controller (with compressed air) and everything looks fine. Even switched the lines around, but it made no difference. These are Tial 44mm units. Drove the car into town, runs fine. Never got over 190 degrees, never missed a beat. Did find myself timing lights so I wouldn't have to stop for long though.................. :D |
in car video jody? hehe
looks awesome! |
Congrats on getting it running Jody!
Hope the oilsmoking isn't any major thing. Looks awesome. Jan |
Looks good Jody! Hopefully you can shake those gremlins without having to tear it apart AGAIN.
