Rear Suspension setup 69' Camaro
I've seen a lot of Quadlink stuff, but im looking for opinions on the best setup for my needs. Although a nice 4 link setup would be great to have I honestly think its a whole lot overkill for my car. Im looking to make a street car with High HP, and the abilty to go to the track every once in awhile.
I will be going with DSE Mini Tub kit, Global West full front Coilover setup, DSE Smaller Tank, Looking to go with a 18" Wheel and 335 tires. For a car that really wont be doing any autocrossing or even heavy duty handleing.....Would i be better off with a nice DSE Leaf/Coilover setup? I just think spending an extra $3k for a 4link system for my car would be way overkill and that 3k can be used to buy for other things. Thanks for any help |
im stickin with leafs on my car:thumbsup: ive seen alot of guys that have had good success and can still hang on the auto-x with leafs..

We do a lot of these cars and sell multiple suspension packages. You do not have to spend big bucks to get a good 4 link system that works. I just copied your post and answered in bold.
I will be going with DSE Mini Tub kit, Global West full front Coilover setup, I would not do a coil over set up. There is not enough stored spring energy, and you are limited to lowering the car only 1 1/2" without shock damage. DSE Smaller Tank, Looking to go with a 18" Wheel and 335 tires. For a car that really wont be doing any autocrossing or even heavy duty handleing.....Would i be better off with a nice DSE Leaf/Coilover setup? I would seriously consider a Chris Alston G Bar triangle 4 link. Not a ton of money ($1750), only a few bucks more then a leaf spring kit. Great ride, Great handling, easy installation, and no narrowed tank required. Just notch the corners of your tank for improved tailpipe clearance.. I just think spending an extra $3k for a 4link system for my car would be way overkill and that 3k can be used to buy for other things. Agreed! Feel free to call me and discuss your project 8AM to 10PM eastern time four zero seven 832 1752 |

Also Does the 4 link that your talking about, work with a Mini Tub? EDIT: I just wanted to add, my exhaust wont be going all the way to the back. So if that helps with the mini tubs and the 4 link i'll be ok. |
Yes it will work with a mini tub. Here is a G Bar with the biggest performance radials you can get, 345 / 30 / 19 with a DSE mini tub. Oh yeah, it looks fricken killer when someone drives up on you too. That is the side bonus!

Like Frank said, if you're going to mini-tub the car and use leaf springs, you're going to have to have your tank modified, modify a new one, or have a custom one made. Because of the cost, it opens the door to looking at different suspension options over the leaf springs.
But, with that said, leaf springs will work great. You can get the car to drive and handle excellent with them. |

We have a customer doing a Nova, well, a Canadian Nova named a Acadian. Search Acadian on here and you will find some cool pictures.

Excellent pics, that setup is absolutely stunning!
Is that the stock tank in the picture or a new one? I plan on using a good amount Second Skin Damplifier over the floor and a lot around the wheel wells so that if i dump the exhaust in front of the wheels it wont be obnoxiously loud. I would love to be able to use the stock tank and just repaint it. |
That is a aftermarket stainless tank with the corners nothced. You could easily notch the corners of your stock tank though

This the same setup that I finally got setup on my car. Rides a lot better then the leaf springs that I had on the car and you have some adjustment on ride height.. And I would recommend prodigy for buying products.. Frank has been helping me with my setup and now I'm ordering more parts That I feel need replaced.. |

I did. No problem on the change. the narrowed tank will also give you the clearance you need as basically the entire sides are trim instead of just dog earing the corners.

G-Bar
G-Bar =
The coilovers will mount to adapters that bolt to your leaf spring perches, not the special Moser brackets for a narrowed rear as shown in the picture. If you want to narrow your rear to get deeper rear wheel lips or to get rid of C clip axles using Ford Torino housing ends, you'll either need to fabricate those brackets, or buy a Moser narrowed rear with those brackets. This is not an issue if sticking with a stock rear width / housing ends. I've been trying to get Ridetech and/or Alston to supply such brackets, but no joy yet as they have each told me contact the other (ugh). So, in my case, I'll either be selling my rear to help fund a narrowed Moser rear (I'm wanting to get rid of the C clips and get more wheel dish), or I'll be fabricating those brackets and narrowing my rear w/ new ends. In short, great system for the buck, easy to install, as long as your sticking with a stock width / housing end rear. Be prepared for more hassle and cost if you're wanting a modified rear. And, since a little welding is required for the upper brackets on the axle tubes, get the installer to weld the mounts to the frame rails too, instead of bolting them in (good insurance for little extra $). G-Bar = |
I pretty much did the same thing after I did the numbers. G-Bar + Mini-tub really wasn't too much more than a Mini-tub with relocated springs and narrowed tank. Also it makes the mini-tub actually easier as you don't have to deal with cutting out and welding in a new upper shock crossmember.
Just recently finished as well so I'll throw my pic in too - http://home.socal.rr.com/ewillis1/im...-Bar015_sm.jpg I also got all my parts for the rear suspension and mini-tubbing from Frank, he was a great help and resource before, during and after the sale. |
Here's a couple pics of mine. Everything bought from Frank.

Nice stuff guys! Thanks for the inspiration

its too bad thats the older g-bar set up:) wait till one of your upper links bends. didnt see any brakes on the rear yet? what weight springs did you use? i ended up with 200lb ones after the fact. still, it looks good.

Frank, Lets talk about this Ricks Tank a little. I have a Narrowed Ricks tank made for exteranal pumps. I have been reading and most people say to go with a internal pump for EFI. Now that being said, Should I send my tank back to rick and have it made for a internal pump or buy a standard tank?
Also my tank does not have the angled side for exhaust. should I have that narrowed or will it be ok as is ? |
Mark, your much better off with a internal pump for packing if nothing else. Also, notches (dog ears) on the corner of the tank help with tailpipe clearance for any 4 link application. It may be best to sell that tank and start over as opposed to getting it reworked. We can keep a note of it when we get a call for that tank, which is pretty often. Also, I might have pre bent tailpipes soon.
|
I agree, will get togethor on this. I spoke with Lisa and she gave me the specs on a new tank. I got a guy who may be interested in the one I got.

If the tank is a narrowed minitub tank I don't think you need to angle the sides, there is plenty of room for the exhaust. I used one with my G-Bar and there was no problem routing the exhaust. Don |
Don is correct. With a Mini Tub tank you do not need to clip the corners as the entire sides of the tank were trimed down. "MINI TUB" tanks are were named for the original moved inboard leaf spring set ups that were so popular before 4 links came out. Mark's tank is not a mini tub narrowed tank. Marks tank is bacially a full size carb or external pump tank.
When we build a tank for a G Bar or Quadrlink, we do not narrow the entire tank, just dog ear the corners. This helps keep some capacity in the tank. |
Correction, it is a narrowed minitub tank but with external NTP connections for external pump.
|
OHHHH! Tailpipe clearance is not a issue, just the external pump.
