Intro and SMOY project..(pic heavy)
hey guys, I've lurked around here for a bit, and just signed up to introduce myself. Sweet pad you guys got here. It's nice to see a lot of the people I already know on here, as well as a lot of guys who's work I admire.
Anyhow, the names Jeph and I work for Scotts Hotrods in Oxnard CA. Right now we have a few Mustangs and shoebox Novas in the shop, as well as one Mustang that we are building to try to compete for SMOY. Anyhow, here's some in progress pics as well as a few shots of some of the other cars around the shop. http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/DSC05008.jpg http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/DSC05001.jpg http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/DSC05012.jpg http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/DSC05010.jpg http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/DSC05013.jpg |

I'll update as we go. Again, thanks for having a great place here, can't wait to start contributing. |
Wow! What a great project.
|
I really like the smooth look! sealing up some of the seams. looks great!

|
Boy that's a lot of time behind the welder!! Looks killer and WELCOME!!
|
Awesome, love all the detail shots. What a killer car that's going to be.
Welcome aboard. |
Looking good man.
Keep up the great work.  |
Great JOB! What about the Ford Truck in the back ground? Looks Badass as well!
|
Nice work. I heard you guys were working on another all black 65 that looks twice as nice as this one and the owner is some special dude. Can't wait to see that one.

Here's the latest update. We added a set of brake cooling vents. http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...ansframeun.jpg http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...mansfram-4.jpg Here's some of the interior sheet metal work. http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...mansfram-3.jpg http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...mansfram-2.jpg Oh, here's a sneak shot of the other Mustang. I'll post some pics of that one in a bit:thumbsup: http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...mansfram-1.jpg |
Wow...that's some nice work! Thanks for posting so many pictures, I love watching builds come together!
 |
Hey Jeph, Tell the old man I stopped by the shop before I headed up to my booth at Goodguys. The concept and work is awesome. I haven't seen this kind of detailed craftsmanship. This is a level I could only hope our shop will achieve. We may have you on paper but where the welder meets the metal ???? Great Job. Looking forward to Columbus and the finished product.
Rumor has it even bigger things are coming. Good luck |
awesome work! be nice to see more Fords in the final five at SMOY..or at least one lol...maybe you`ll see this one up against Fesler built fastback! Hands down you have the chassis covered though...will this be a bolted down body or will it be a fully welded body to the frame?

LOL, I don't know who Doug Foose is.........but that just sounds funny :) Hey ChipF, thanks for the props. This year we are really trying to showcase our builds, rather than just the parts everyone knows us for. I'll get some more pics up tomorrow, I have a few more you'll probably drool over:unibrow: |

No, we are definitely bolting this body to the frame. This customer is going to drive the crap out of this car on the street, and really wants it to be comfortable. For the first year we will probably use brass bushings since it's going to see a lot of track time....but after that, rubber baby bumper buggies all the way:lol: It's definitely be cool to see more Blue Ovals in the top 5.......and heck, I'm a Bowtie guy, I just love variety. |

Thanks for the advice about stopping by your booth and meeting your big time customer. What a straight up guy. Really knows his s%@#t. He thinks the world of you guys. Based on his projects that he discussed and some of the concepts that you guys are working on these pictures are just a small sample. By the way that AMBR car in the booth was incredible.
I am a blue oval guy as well and can't wait to see this fastback in Columbus. Keep posting pictures. There is no doubt it will be in the top two. As Chip or Doug said the metal work is as good as it gets. (I saw it on the 32 also). You sure won't have to worry about any of the shennanigans they had this year like the body filler fiasco. I can't even imagine a million dollars plus invested for bondo. Wonder what that does to somebody like TT's reputation. Anyway, I would like to talk to you guys about a 67 fastback. I think my due dilligence is done. I'll give you a call. |
I cant' get enough of the shop pics, I think John Nutcase calls it crack, I call it porn. What ever you call it just keep posting pictures, it keeps us motivated and looking forward.
Mick |
Very nice work ! I will be awaiting more pictures of this thing !!!

here's a better pic of the brake vent finished. I'll take some more pics tomorrow now that the motor is in and the front sheet metal is on.

inner fender panels were mocked up and are getting put in this week. They cover the front down tubes nicely and clean up the engine compartment.

Foose has built things in metal that would put most builders on this site to shame, and we have a very large talent pool here. There is NO WAY he just said that about his own fabrication skills. It is a funny joke, I get it; but Foose has enough credit to actually post his entire last name. Will a mod be so kind as to check the IP of the poster ChipF and see if it came from anywhere near his current location? I'll bet that the answer would be no.. Tyler |
Tyler,
There was a bunch of posts that were pruned from this thread (for good reason). The ChipF here is a friend of the owner of this project car. |
Impressive - I am really looking forward to GG COlumbus next year
|
WOW! Im speechless! that mustang is going to put the Fast Forward Fastback to shame. Im contemplating building another one just to TRY and outdo this masterpiece. Keep up the great work fellas. Ask the old man if he is going to be in Detroit this year, I look forward to seeing him again.
|
im still waiting to here what Mike and Jim Ring have to say about this masterpiece lol

A little bit of an update for you guys.
The inner fender panels and down tubes are finished now. If you look close you'll the the panels are bolted in with blind nuts. It gives them a neat clean look without having to weld them in. http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...g/DSC05773.jpg http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...g/DSC05778.jpg The inside work has started, and the dash is getting a complete makeover. This is just a quick before picture, I'll post up some afters when it's done. http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...g/DSC05774.jpg http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...g/DSC05777.jpg |
i think it's time for an update
|
You're right, I gotta get out and take some pics....
|
Car looks sick and I would love to have our two cars together at a show. I am not really into the FORDs but there are a few cool ones coming out now so should be a fun show year.
Post more pics so we can see more |

Chris I can't think of anything more fun than showing a couple of Fords side by side; there is going to be some stiff competition in Columbus this year, and I look forward to a great show. So where are all the other sneak peeks of the cars shooting to make it to the show next year? |
With the last month being so busy with SEMA, I don't have a whole lot of update Pics, but here's a pic of the rear bumper. It's been heavily modified (might as well been made from scratch) and recessed flush. Looks sweet.
http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...g/DSC06021.jpg http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...g/DSC06023.jpg |
looks awesome! can you explain how you attached the body and the frame? I am curious about that aspect. Did you just weld the frame to the rocker panels?
Thanks |
