Just got home after a 12 day trip and my garage is turning Japanese..

I just came back late yesterday from vacation, got a call from my local Nissan Dealer and he said your car is here.. I picked this up this morning. After I put some miles on it, I will report back and then the mods will begin..

Vegas69 09-06-2008 10:33 PM

Very cool ride SW. Definitely, when you get some seat time, let us know how it stacks up to your other rides. You are a true test pilot..

...and it's even black.

Ketzer 09-07-2008 05:40 AM

Very nice!
It's on our short list (along with the CTS-V) for a new spring purchase, can't wait to hear your impressions.

Under the hood, the Nissan GT-R features an all-new 3.8-litre twin turbo V6 "VR38" engine, featuring plasma-sprayed bores and a special twin-turbo exhaust manifold system. A secondary air management system enables the newly designed powerplant to provide approximately 40kg/m of torque during ordinary low-rev driving, which gives an optimum air-fuel ratio for around-town efficiency and helps the Nissan GT-R meet ultra-low emission vehicle (U-LEV) standards in Japan.

The Nissan GT-R's new engine produces 480PS (353kW) at 6400rpm and maximum torque of 60kgm (588Nm) from 3200 to 5200rpm. Putting the power to the ground is an all-new GR6-type dual clutch transmission, with paddle shifting and a Borg Warner six-plate dual clutch for direct control.

J2SpeedandCustom 09-07-2008 03:12 PM

SW that thing is bad a$$! Hope your transmission holds up. I've been reading alot and seems people are having some issues with using the launch control and the the transmission holding up to abuse. I know you will put her thru the paces!!!

abadsvt 09-07-2008 03:57 PM

I am in LOVE!!!!! That thing is bad a$$!!!!!

Joel145 09-07-2008 04:47 PM

SWEET!!!! I'm in the wrong business, this is exactly why my dumbass is going back to school. Awesome car:hail:

awr68 09-07-2008 07:11 PM

That would be a fun car!!

FETorino 09-07-2008 07:19 PM

According to R&T and C&D that thing

kicks ass and takes names. They tested it against a Z06 and a 911 and it spanked them both.

ArisESQ 09-07-2008 08:36 PM

such a sweet car. what kind of mods are available for that thing now? are you gonna go all out?

AM.MSCL 09-08-2008 06:51 AM

Here is the real question for me:
How does this thing compare to your Z06's? I know yours are not stock but curious as to all the magazine hype claims.

More info has been coming out that the GTR they used to test against the Z06 and 911 had race tires, gutted interrior, and not a stock factory computer tune.

tones2SS 09-08-2008 10:39 AM

WOW!!!
Pretty bad-ass!!!!

Nine Ball 09-08-2008 11:53 AM

My favorite Japanese car.

If that thing has a weak point in the drivetrain, SW will find it

thats not entirely true. there were a few test runs they did at nurembering that had a racier tune and nicer tires, but i've never heard of any gutted interiors. i think a lot of that "info" are just rumors started by american car fan-boys.

as far as how it does against the Z06 and 911T: look at the road and track article on the GT-R. That was a showroom stock car and it still did fine against the competition in the 1/4 mile and 0-60 tests, and managed to beat them around their test track (buttonwillow i think)

You know it.. :)

Here it is at Boost Logic, 50 miles on it and they built a new mid-pipe section for it today. For now my plans are to up the boost, paint the lower skirts black, coilovers, HREs and ECU tune.

I was wondering when you were going to receive that car.

Can't wait to see it lowered with HRE's on...

Interesting how they show the Weight of the Z06 200 lbs more then it is and the GT-R 300 lbs lighter then what actual owners are saying. Also the GT-R was 7 seconds slower in the 1/4 mile according to that report.

I think you may have misread? Thats 7.2 mph, not seconds.
The GT-R ran an 11.8 in the 1/4, and they reported it to weigh 3800 pounds, which is pretty much what I've seen everywhere else, and had an overall lap time of 1:56.9
The Z06 ran the 1/4 in 11.7 and had an overall lap time of 2:02.2
The extra weight in both cars is 160 pounds, which is roughly the weight of a normal sized man... the driver.

Either way, I don't want to turn SW's thread into another Z06 vs. GT-R debate like every other automotive forum has. I def. look forward to seeing it on HRE wheels and some coilovers!

I drove another one today that had some miles on it. He also has the mid pipe and upped the boost a little, what a fun car. No, it's not as fast as my ZO6s or Supras, but it's a lot more refined. There won't be much out there that will hang with it from stop light to 100, thats for sure. Lot's of useful "toys" to play with also. They used the people at Sony who designed the Sony Playstation, to design the Navigation/gauge system, it's unreal. 2.5 years in wind tunnel tests ect. It's alot of car for the money. Speaking of money, Nissan just increased the MSRP by 10% on Friday. My Dealer called me, he wanted to back date the deal to thursday so he wouldn't have to pay Nissan the extra 10% that he didn't charge me.

I have a ZR1 coming around Nov., I hope it will be worth all the hype.

Thats funny, I just saw this thread and was wondering why you got this car with the ZR1 being released, I was sure you'd be the guy to pick one of those up. But Hot Dang I like your style, you got both!! HAHA. Keep us posted on the mods.

conekiller13 09-10-2008 06:09 PM

I belive the last tid bit I read about the ZR-1 was it bested the GT-R around the Nordschlief by 3-4 seconds...........

THe ZR-1 is bad ass car for the money. But the GT-R is pretty cool too. Thats funny about the dealer calling and asking for more money after it's been sold...........damn dealers.

From what he posted, the dealer didn't call asking for more money. Nissan has raised the price by 10% on all GTRs this year and all the dealer wanted to do was back date the paperwork on his car to an earlier date to avoid the extra 10% charge.

Love the car BTW. I think it looks great in black, especially with the dark gray wheels. I see a white one running around here quite often.

G-Body 09-11-2008 03:48 PM

That is just showing off! lol Wow Great car and tatse in them i must say!
For those that dont know much about these cars they are probably the best well balanced cars made good stuff right htere
