The Restomod Remote Shifter...
I found this shifter and I think it looks kinda cool and industrial/racy. Kinda reminds me of the Lightning Rods shifter for the Lenco trans, which I like. Anyone seen this in a car? Or know if shifts well? This shifter would also solve the shifter location problem I have without making me send my TKO 600 back to Keisler to be modified. http://www.mustangsplus.com/tech/spe...ter/index.html |
it looks nice but to me it seems like the transmission isn't made for that car and possibly more things could go wrong.

Would this be for your 68??

guy on pro-touring has one in his nova but he modifyed it to look a little different. i dont like the pistol grip but the rest look sweet! and i agree gives it a industrial look and if you got long leg it probally positions it good for you.

I just need to figure out if the 9.5" set back from where the shifter position is now would be ideal, or at least damn close to it. thanks again! |
Flash....
I've looked at your car a lot! It is going to be one bad mother and so far I've been very impressed with every thing you've done. I'm going to have to vote NO on this item. To me it would interrupt the clean lines and flow of your car. If it's an industrial look your going for I think there are better ways to achieve that. :captain: |
yea but if you have a new bar machined you could have it made the exact length to where its perfect for you.
i dont car for it in its stock form from the mustang site but i think all black anodized with a custon bar in place of the tacky "restomod" piece it would look sick! |

I appreciate that Curtis. I am on the fence about this shifter. I kinda like it and it seems different but stout looking, but not too over the top IMO. I have been trying to go with a combo of industrial and dark colors, satin/matte/brushed, etc. and may get rid of a lot of the polished and shiny. We shall see.... |

Yeah we already talked about machining over that restomod advertisement on it (you can't blame them I guess) or doing something to cover it up. Black anodized or powdercoated would be a good idea too. damn, I am really on the fence about this.... |
You asked... IMO I think it looks bad, like a mistake and here is the bad fix.

thanks for the candid opinion. |
looks like a great idea with flawed execution.... i dont like that its only bolted to one side.. would like to have seen it fork on both sides of the tranny and shifter.... looks like somthing that will go loose over time...
|
If you are not building a race car I dont think its rigth for the style you are going after. Looks to stock car and if you are going for smooth this is not it IMO
Good luck with your decision:thumbsup: |
Thanks guys. I am starting to think this thing is not for me...

I hate it more than the hangover I'm suffering from right now.:D

My buddies here in town do those shifters (Mustangs Plus / The Restomod shop.)
I've driven a car with one before; it works rather well and allows you to put the shifter in a more suitable location. It's more of a form over function piece for me though as in real life it looks like you didn't plan things out right and this shifter was a "fix" for that. The shift feel is still quite good but going through the additional linkage it does lose a bit of feel and gains a little more slop. The perceived change in feel & slop are very slight compared to having the stick right on the tranny; it still shifts & feels very good. If I had to choose between a long & dog legged shift lever to put the shifter where I wanted it and the Restomod "extender" I'd choose the extender; unlike the huge dogleg shift handle it won't increase the shift throws. Oh, and FYI... if you have access to some machine tools you can build your own very inexpensively with some aluminum and heim joints. |

I do have the option of sending the trans back to Keisler and they can put the shifter position wherever i want it basically. I am leaning toward doing that as I really do prefer a straight stick shifter handle. And I have absolutely zero skills, tools, machines, etc. thanks for posting |
you could simply cover the linkage area with a console of some sort , and put a boot at the base of the remote stick. No one would know what under the console.... :unibrow:

thanks for the idea though. :) |
