J's 68

So I just picked up a new project. Bought this car last week, and this past sat tore the fenders core support all the wiring. The car had a 305 block that ran like a dog 700r4 tranny. I will be taking this all out and replacing it with either a 383 or LS power and 6 speed I hope. The car lucky has no rust only 2 small places so I got lucky.. Check out those valve covers haha

Looks like a nice start....

You should definitely plan the build around the valve covers!!!

awr68 10-07-2008 07:53 PM

Congrats on the project! Keep us updated....oh, and we'll help you spend your money!! :unibrow:

Go with a LSx motor!! Even if it's carbed for awhile it's a move in the right direction!!

That's what I was thinking as well. Go with the LSX motor!!! Although a nice 383 stroker all done up is a nice motor as well.
Body looks to be in pretty good condition.
GOOD LUCK!!!

ArisESQ 10-09-2008 09:33 AM

LS for sure! And try to adapt the valve covers to fit.

If you do carbed, will it be a 383 like you mentioned earlier? That would be NICE!!! Nice little engines for the Camaros.:unibrow: :unibrow:
GOOD LUCK!

I was supposed to go look at that car last week. Is your first post a typo? His ad said it had a 350 in it. Good start.

No he had no clue about the car We bought it 2 weeks back. I looked up the block numbers it said it was a 305 2 bolt main from 1978-79. It ran like crap too.

blown9746 10-10-2008 01:28 PM

yeah I've been looking for a car for months and it seems there are a lot of sellers that don't know anything about what they have, think their $14k car is a barret jackson car, or just seem totally unwilling to answer questions on the phone (which sucks because most cars are at least a 2 hr drive for me to look at).

Swain 11-23-2008 06:07 PM

did some work on the car this weekend

My friend and I sand blasted the sub frame and core support this weekend, Then we shot some primer on it. Next weekend we will be painting it all black then I should have my DSE stage 1 kit this weds. It's coming along slowly......Here is a few pictures..

Jr 12-17-2008 12:12 PM

Jason,
PM sent. What are your goals for the car?

Swain 12-17-2008 12:54 PM

Well i play on putting a 5 speed in it, the motor not too sure yet probably just a 383 stoker. The front suspension is DSE stage 1 then I will prolly use some Bear Brakes front and rear nothing to crazy. The rear I still have that up in the air as well. The interior was all re done not long ago besides the front seats which I bought some used ones that will be recovered. The body is really straight haven't even started sanding that down. That could get scary. The under neath of the car is good besides the driver side floor has some rot. I probably will replace that piece this weekend, So I can get the sub frame back on to get this project rolling. I bought some global west body mount bushings to use. I will be sure to post pics up this weekend.

Swain 01-12-2009 02:53 PM

Swain 04-08-2009 10:44 AM

Here is some pics I had taken a few weeks ago... I have both quarters off now the roof is coming off next. Putting my mini tubs in this week with new outer tubs as well. Soo much work but o well.

Nice work.

Swain 05-08-2009 11:19 AM

So my sheet metal will be mocked up this weekend, and I need to start on my wheels but I cannot think of a color I can settle on. I love the color of Bad Penny but I would then have the same year car and color as Steve and we live in the same county cant have that. The car was black but that's a pain to clean, any other suggestions? I need to know the color of the car to determine what color I will be powder coating the centers. Maybe candy apple red? Maybe a color with a pearl?

Help

Jay

Next on the list is the G link rear suspension, with a ford 9". Then the wheel design is still up in the air.

jcal87 07-21-2009 09:36 AM

looking good I'll be starting the same process with my car here shortly and I gotta tell you I'm scared to death to find out what lerks under all my paint and I think I'm gonna end up like you and having to replace quarters and roof etc.
