It really depends on what you want. Do you want to reinvent the wheel with major body mods? Or just need some paint ideas. I pay anywhere from 500 -750. depends on work done and style of work ( 3D or hand drawn Sketch )

I have used with great success

Carter Hickman
Sean Smith
Eric Black

They have all the 3 doe great work, now I just have to build what they designed.

Nvrenuf 10-11-2008 04:41 PM

great question. I was curious about the same thing!

monza 10-11-2008 05:13 PM

another option for you as well...

i think for what your looking to do carter hickman would be the guy to go to, especially for messing around with ideas, etc

As we speak I am building a couple projects right now with Carter Hickman and building a couple projects with Ben Hermance. Both are top notch very talented guys. There are a lot of talented guys out there. Something very important with both of these guys, and the reason I use them, is they get it done when they promise. For me that is super critical. Weather I need the rendering on a given date to promote a new project, or need it to close a customer project, or am just really excited and want to see it when it is promised!

Both these guys mentioned are the only artist I have worked with that do that.

Carter is working on my next in house project and I need it done before SEMA to promote the project for next season. Carter will have it done 100% a week before SEMA In the past with other artist I have chewed my nails until the last second and have the rendering show up with a 80% done the day of the show! I do not need that extra presuure at SEMA.

As for cost. $500 to $1000. Best money one can spend on a project before paint and wheel selection.

fesler 10-12-2008 04:56 AM

I use alot of the rendering guys and actually work really well with a few of them and if you are looking for a rendering we get a deal on them and can save you some money. We usually pay $500-$750 and they usally run $750-$1000 for what we do. Let me know if you want some help.

WOW!! thank you guys for the recommendations! Most of the info that has been posted is correct, but it does vary a little from project to project. I just updated my site, so drop by and check out this years work. I think most everthing on the site now is just from this year. If you have any questions just let me know.

Thanks Jake and Frank and Rodger!!!

Since this is turning into "which" Artist to use instead of "how much" I will throw in Jason Rushforth's name in the hat. If you want a look that is progressive and unique he is a true designer that is concerned about every aspect of the build so it flows together- he even came over to lay out my stripes so they were in proportion to the drawing and vision- ALL ARTISTS mentioned do amazing work- here is just one more name to consider

beachcitywagonmasters.com - DVierstra

Just two of my personal favourite artists:
Brian of Problem Child Kustoms - but a member here too.
Ryan Curtis. Don't think he is a member, not sure so here is contact kinda. http://brn-mny.deviantart.com/

.... and uh, *cough* me. See sig. Good luck with your search!

As said above, maybe give us details of what you want. For example if you want 3-d, hand sketched, Photoshop photo-chop, or computer based renderings, there are those on here who specialize in each of those areas that can help with that. There's tons of talent on here and we each have our individual style and technique. Maybe look through past posts and PM those with a style you like.

I don't have much on my website yet, but here's a pretty good example of what I can do...

It depends on style and vision accuracy I agree with O'Dell, there are many Artists to choose from!

The best way to approach it is, make a "detailed" list or what I call a "Build list" of what you want or what you like, such as colors, wheels, treatments. How many views of your vehicle (front, rear, interior etc.) compile a list of photos for reference. This will help communicate your vision. Give a reasonable completion date. Next, get a few quotes from your list of artists that you like along with your compiled build list (above).

Cost depends on amount of time, revisions, # of views (front rear, 3./4, side engine bay, dash etc.), and amount creative design involved.

I am currently working on a project for a client 'Down Under.'

Here's what one actually looks like:

Good luck on your project!

Pick one you like and go with it.

Thanks for the mention City. No, I don't have a website yet, but you can send me a personal email through here.

It all depends on what you are looking for. Take some time and look at posts of artwork and see what kind you like (compupter versus hand for example). If cost is an issue, get a few artists you like and give them all the same information you know. Generally speaking, the more you want, the more it will cost. Just to repeat again, there are a lot of good talented artists on here to choose from with styles that range the full spectrum.

Keep us posted,

Mike

If I am not mistaken, that Chevelle was drawn by Todd Emmons of toddemmonsdesign.com

he was formerly with Boyd Coddington, and freelances nowadays.

Thanks Ben! I have over 40 hours into it and still working on the interior and engine bay. The builder provided me with a build sheet. That REALLY helped!
