Ari Vatanen drives Pikes Peak
This is spectacular, talk about Dare Devil.
Look when he drives with one hand sheilding the sun with the other. Jan |
That's awesome.
Jan, have you ever been to Pike's Peak? Once I drove to the top, it gave me a whole new appreciation for that race. |
Absolutely nuts:thumbsup:

This has been around for about 10 years and I never ever get tired of watching it...just spectacular !
|
Ive been there, that is crazy! Ive got a lot of respect for anybody who runs that!

Truely the best video and it will never get old.
On our travels to Finland earlier this year, Me and my wife had the honour to meet Vatanen and his family as they have their summer vacation in Finland. A great man and he is a genuine bloke who greets with open arms. Some info about the pikes peak video.. he only saw it recently and thought ''oh my .. i did that?!'' :D Before he was due to start the run, the marshall at the bottom of the hill got in correct information to let Ari out when he wasnt meant to.. in the meantime there was a tanker making its decent and nearly took the car out at first bend. The video you watched is the 2nd take! |
Oh yeah, proud to say from Finland  He is a real down to earth guy. Now having political career in EU.
|
now that is just plain awesome!!!! i still say that rally drivers are some of the best and most talented drivers in all of motorsport!, not many are willing to run at 150mph thru forests with trees as crash barriers! the car is typical european in that their technology to produce so much power out of 2 litre engines is amazing. The usa would be the same if they had to pay $10 a gallon for fuel like europe does!! not many big blocks running around for sure!

Just to note: All the top finishers happened to be either US made or Japan made, unless you are talking the two wheel variety. The abilities of these drivers are second to none! Still you have to hand it to technology and how well they can make a car run a 12.42 mile course that begins at 9,390 feet and finishes at the 14,110 foot summit with 156 twisting turns wow is all I can say! there are some excellent drivers and if anyone ever gets a chance to be in Colorado Springs around the third week in July let me know and I will get you to some of the best spots to watch the cars race by you...After all it is the second oldest motorsports race in the united states! Yeah you can say I am a bit of a race to the clouds geek! Cheers!!!! |
Ari rules!
|
That's Great !!! how'd you like to be in the car with him :faint: LOL
|
Great vid. of a pikes peak run............not too much shoulder to use if you need it there. :_paranoid The road debris hitting the camera lens was pretty cool too. Gives a good sense of the speed.
