1957 Chevy Build
I've been a regular viewing this forum for almost the last two years. I've always been amazed at the quality of builds with some of the members and I finally feel like my car is in good enough shape to share it with everyone.
1957 Chevy Bel Air 2 Dr Hardtop 496 BBC Hogan Intake - LS7 Injectors Vintage Air Frontrunner system 4L80E Ford 9" with 3.70 gears Air Ride suspension (front is done, rear is next) Heidts tubular stainless control arms http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../338583916.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../338583774.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../338583829.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../338583840.jpg |
Awesome car. I'm always a big fan of the tri-five cars. I like the attention to detail on the firewall matching the intake block outline. Great job!!!!

Love the car, can't wait to see it done. Keep up the good work.

jy211,
The firewall started out as a sheet of 16 gauge sheetmetal. It was the first time I attempted something like this but I think it turned out OK. I just used cardboard to build a template. http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../295009100.jpg Below is how the car started. I took it all the way down to the frame. Installed all new stainless fuel and brake lines, new exhuast that I will have coated at a later time. Also a Rick's Hot Rod Shop stainless fuel tank. http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../250997638.jpg I included some additional pictures of the wilwood brakes and the wheels. http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../312229365.jpg Below is how I brought the A/C and heater hoses from the Vintage Air unit to the engine compartment. http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../312225297.jpg The car will be painted a different color that has not been decided yet. I change my mind everytime I see some of the cars at the Goodguys events with the high quality paint jobs. |
Now where talking what a beautiful ride cant wait to follow this car.

Looks great, glad you're posting. A couple of questions... With it being popular nowadays to swap out the stock frame, what factor(s) convinced you to not do that? Have you decided on a 2 tone or single color? Also, what colors have you ruled out... if any? |
55Forward,
When I started the build it was only going to be a nice driver. I blame this website and the Goodguys shows to what it has turned in to. At this point I have spent too much time and money on the stock frame to change. If I was going to do it all over again I probably would go with a Morrison chassis. I plan on using a single color. I haven't ruled out any colors but I want something to be a little different then the many red and black 57's that I see out there. |

Can't wait to see the final product.
Looks good now. GOOD WORK!!!  |

Nothing looks better than a Hogan intake!
Love the build. |
man that looks awesome, I love shoeboxes! It reminds me of the 1st hot rod I ever rode in. It was my neighbors turquoise 57 hard top and I was 8 years old. I'll never forget that car.
|
Killer car, I love showboxes as we, especially done nice like this.
I actually really like the colour it is. Keeps it more to the era of when the car was built. I think that's why alot of them are red. |
Another example of a color NOT overdone, here's Marty McGuire's Dad's car before and after paint/wheel mods.

I've seen pictures of that 57 before. It's one of my favorite.
