Project Never Enough
Its been a long time dream to mod a 1st gen Camaro. Ive built many cars and bikes but it was never planed it just happened. This project was bought with it in my head that modding was comin. You guys will have to bare with me on this project. Its going to be a long project but worth it in the end. I hope to sell my Boat to fund whats coming. If Ive added it up right Im looking at about 25k without the cost of the car. Thats doing all the work myself including paint. Heres some pics of what Im workin with.
Heres the car I bought two weeks ago. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...er2nv/maro.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...r2nv/maro1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...v/DSC_0250.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...v/DSC_0251.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...v/DSC_0254.jpg Ive started to tear it down. I know a lot of you are thinking. That guy is nuts! That car has fresh paint on it. Well it just wasnt good enough for me. Ive done many paint jobs and this one just doesnt stack up. The nice part is its been blasted. Ive put the order in for some steel for the rotisserie. I also ordered some 16 gauge for the firewall work. Next will be the tubs. Ill update as I go. |

I think I posted this in the wrong section. Mods can you move it? Thanks!
|
Hi Nice project. Did you get to see any pictures of what the other guy did to it , as far as replacing sheet metal and patch work?
Wayne |
Looks like you're off to a great start.
What are your plans for it? |
Looks like a solid car, will you be stripping it or scuff and shoot?
|
Looks solid....the over spray all over everything is the first sign of a half assed job. The second is waves in the paint in a photo. You can make a bucket full of **** look good in a photo. Looks like a great start though man:thumbsup:

The car was blasted though, its pretty clean. The underside has nothing on it, its just metal. Ill be building a rotisserie soon. The underside will be color matched. Plans so far include, LS2, T56 Custom interior Shave a LOT of body lines, handels ect. Save firewall Strip the paint and start over New front subframe, unsure of brand at this point New 12 bolt rear end. Custom air ride 20in 19in wheels unsure of brand DSE tubs 14in brakes unsure of brand HOK Nova orange paint Ill get started strippin soon:) |
Did a little more work this afternoon. I shaved the drip rails. I also did a little sanding on the car. Looks like the car was really stripped last go round. Only one paint job on her. The top of the car is super flat! Given what Ive seen sanding. Ill block the top and strip the rest of the car.

You say you shaved the drip rails? Do you have other pics showing this as it looks to me that the are still on the car, perhaps just the angle of the pics?
For a little more work, and not much really! I would deffinatly strip the roof/whole car! There's nothing like starting fresh, and the roof is right in your face when the cars on the ground! |
Looks like a good car to start with. You might be one of the lucky ones that starts with a rust free car.
I'm interested to see more of what's under the paint. Mike |
is there welding to be done when shaving the drip rails or do you just cut them off and call it good?
|
Ill try and get better pics. Theres a little bump that runs in back of the drip rail. I left it there. I think its a nice touch. Theres a couple spots that need to be welded shut.
I know at least one quarter has been replaced but yeah its going to be nice to see what under that paint. So far so good. Its nice to see evercoat filler. I like to see that because that usually shows that a decent shop did the work. |
Started doing some sanding today. As I got into the passenger side quarter I found the cut for the new quarter. Wouldnt have been my choice but I guess it will be ok. I found a 1/2 of bondo over the welded section. I dont know why this much filler was used. The panel isnt that off, oh well its gone now.
I then got started on the template for the firewall. I think this will do just fine! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...v/DSC_0285.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...v/DSC_0286.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...v/DSC_0288.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...v/DSC_0289.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...v/DSC_0292.jpg |
Looks like a real nice starting point...Make sure to post lots of photos during the build.
|

:woot: Got my LS2 with LS3 heads in today! I also went with the ASA cam. Ill post pics later. Feels good to get some parts in.
I also have been welding up the drip rails. Im a long ways away but its nice to get going on the project:cheers: |
Very cool! I would put that new motor in the dining room...ya know, away from all the sanding dust!
Sweet progress...keep at it!! |
It feels good to have a new LS2 with aluminum heads sitting in the garage doesn't it? Looking good the motor you just know it';s going to make your light weight car really scream.
Project looks great, post some pics of the new firewall plate as soon as you cut it. Rich |
nice project its nice to see you stripping it all the way down and starting over so you know you have a great base to start from. keep the pics coming

I don't see the fender bolt holes on your firewall. Although, it doesn't appear to be tack welded. I already seen one guy that forgot to drill those holes and welded it. There is some photos of my firewall on this link. http://www.kodakgallery.com/67rscama...n/67_camaro_rs Jeff http://www.kodakgallery.com/67rscamaro |
Looks like your making great progress with the bodywork. Are you adding a custom rear suspension or using the leaf springs ?
Paul |
I just set the firewall plate up there for fitment. Im still up in the air over to show the trim tag or not. I figured I have sooo much to do on the car that Ill just come back to that later, lol.
Prodigy Bar is the plan right now. Just need to save some cash. Christmas was rough on my build plans:rofl: |
Great progress.. Did you remove all the drip rail at one time, or remove small section and tack weld? I'm trying to decide whether to go smooth or use a 1/4" rod and taper it down.
|
Nice progress , and thats a nice shiny engine too.
|
Looks great.
Subscribing. Kory |
Couple more shots. I shaved the trunk lock and passenger door. I started on the driver but found that that door has been hit. Its been pulled and has a bunch of mud on it. Ill be ordering a new driver door. Whats the best repo door for a 68?

Well I got one of the stock tubs cut out tonight. Wow what a pain in the arse!lol. Firewall is really close to being welded up also. Ill post progress pics tomorrow.
This site has REALLY been good for me. Seeing the threads of the builders on this site has helped a bunch! Ive always modded cars, but not to this point. Heck Im teaching myself to weld on this car. The more work that goes into it the more I think Ill never be able to sell it. I think about the pride Im going to feel when some day I finish it. Just awesome:cheers: |
Looking good, keep at it! It's great to see you so excited about the build...that's what it's all about!!

The car is looking good! I really like those wheels too.
I'm guessing you are WAY into fishing with the collection of rods on the wall in the first few pics of this thread. It's good therapy for me too! Keep the updates coming, can't wait to see more. |
