Lap Time chart with complete category break down of the Optima Challenge

Congrats again to Steve, Mary and David on their win and representing Lateral-g.net. The 69 Corvette from Campbell Automotive Restorations with Mark Frazier driving finished 2nd, giving Lateral-g.net first and second place overall!

No #'s on big red? I saw him tirn in a transponder.

XcYZ 11-11-2008 04:47 PM

I believe Big Red was DQ'd for not meeting minimum requirements.

Jimi-FM3 11-11-2008 04:54 PM

Stuart, there was an issue with Big Red's transponder the first time out, I believe it may have conflicted with his own transponder in the car - anyway, his lap times didn't register on the official track timing equipment. Just to clarify, he was running exhibition only because he didn't meet the specific tech requirements of working turn signals, headlights and a couple of others. We did try to get times, the transponders work properly about 95% of the time. I will double check the manually recorded times when they arrive back from the track and see if we have anything.

chicane 11-11-2008 04:54 PM

If I remember correctly... RJ stated that he didnt run under 2:xx because of the engine tune/issues.

XcYZ 11-11-2008 04:56 PM

I would have loved to have been able to see Big Red run. Maybe next year.

Guys, what do you think about using the photos for a Calendar and perhaps even an event poster?

Any interest? With cars like these, I think a photo montage poster of them would be outstanding.

Put the sponsors names on it along with the forums who sent help.
David

XcYZ 11-11-2008 05:37 PM

I'd be all for that.

aany001 11-11-2008 05:52 PM

Thats an awesome idea...a huge poster with all the cars thats participated. That would look awesome in the shop!!!
Yes we need this to happen.Im in for one for sure!!!!

Yes, he was DQ'd for no brake lights and for having shaved tires. Even so, it wasn't running right and I heard his times were in the low 2.xx range. He didn't try the autocross.

The ZR1 went off track a couple of times.. the driver wasn't as good as the car.

I have photos.. could easily pull 12 PT type cars for it. Or a poster.. Hot Rod gets first dibs but I have HUNDREDS of photos (some of them are even good).

I think that is a great idea - both the calendar and the poster.

Calendar is easy.. just need 13 killer shots... for the poster we need someone good enough to do the layout.

I have the event logo file already and there will be several hundred shots left over after Hot Rod and CP take their share.

Just want to point out that second place overal was the other Lateral-G car, the 69 Vette owned by Scott Mercer and built by Campbell Auto Restoration with Mark Frazier driving.

Yeah, the car sounded wicked, but way out of tune. Cool car. I knew it wasn't competing just was curious as to his times.

The ZR1 looked like it had been 4 wheeling, LOL.

What's interesting is that it didn't place in either the autocross or the big-track sections.

BUT... it was very very consitently good in both.

Congrats man.. it's a "one/two" victory for team Lateral-g :woot:

There was a video company filming the event, they got lots of shots of the cars both on and off the track!

I'm going to see if we can do some kind of poll here and at Pro-Touring.com and come up with a potential order number. Once they see how many they might sell, they can figure out the price. They would sell them to participants for $150. each but if we can generate some volume, the price would come down. I doubt it will go to $20.00 but hopefully less than $50. We'd have to see.

$150 seemed crazy.. but I would certainly be willing to spend $50.. maybe even a bit more if it was done well.

Agreed

I'll third that...

Add me to the list.

Big Red did have a transponder for the second set of runs. I asked one of the guys in the timing booth right after Big Red came in.... he said the lap was 1.58.XX

Heres some racepak data screen shots from my fastest lap.
One shows lateral g, one for speed.
David

Steve1968LS2 11-14-2008 10:21 AM

It cuts off 12.. which is the fast end of the long straight.. what was that, 114mph?

1.2g for the lefts is pretty good... now to the the rights that good.

I wonder if a real alignment would have helped some.

bret 11-14-2008 10:32 AM

Too bad the transmission finally died in Velocity, I couldn't find my way through all the autocross gates, and the GG Nova had to survive to drive to Phoenix that night. Let's see...have I left out any excuse for being piss-slow? Nah...that ought to do it. Oh well...more inspiration for next year!
The upside of loosing 3rd and 4th gear in Velocity is that now I know it will run exactly 84mph in second gear on the rev limiter at 6500rpm. I'll bet she is glad I finally got tired of that action!

Cool car. Glad the Nova made it to Phoenix.

I think next year will be even more competitive and better times.

Bret, how many miles did you say you put on Velocity this year? 8,000? It was an amazing amount!

David Pozzi 11-14-2008 01:19 PM

Bret,
Great seeing you run Velocity! You guys have balls! :hail:
What I saw of you looked good!
Ty had fun teasing Mary, but she can dish it out too! :unibrow:

Steve, the end of chart is start finish line. top speed on the straight is at 90 seconds, 112mph for that lap. I hit 114 on other laps, but my fastest was with me braking sooner, then getting back on the power way early to reduce understeer. If you check cornering g's at that point you can see the corner entry.

The odometer is the one thing that we didn't get working on the racepak [even though the speedometer works] By adding up the big trips we took I am estimating around 6800 miles. Much of it at full throttle.

VonHauer 01-20-2009 08:35 AM

Merry Mary

Sorry it took so long to reply... David I must say Mary is one of the classiest ladies I have ever met. She is a true joy to be around and yes she can dish it as well as she can take it! The end of last summer was my first experience with auto-crossing and Mary was a hug help with pointers and advice (thanks Mary). Hopefully next year Bret will let me tag along again and maybe we can bring two of our own cars so I can feel better about leaving everything out on the track. Pahrump was a blast and I really appreciate y'all making me feel so welcome and a part of this amazing sport!
