Newbie from Socal Introducing Project NightTrain

7 Attachment(s)
Hey Everyone-
Just want to introduce my self... I've been lurking on this site and a couple others as I'm fairly new to the car game and just gotten my first classic. This is a great place to network and get ideas and tips... So Thanks! It's a 67 Chevelle and am extremely excited to get started on it. I've always loved the body lines and the tail lights on the 67's It currently has:
350 Engine
350 Turbo Trans
12 Bolt Posi Rear End
4 Barrel Holley Carb
Edelbrock Intake

The body is pretty clean and the interior is immaculate and is a great runner... However I do have some plans:)
With the help from Jon at Driverz Inc. in Corona, CA, I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce Project NightTrain. Jon's been a great help as he helped me find the car and gave some recommendations of some upgrades I can do to make the car even better. Here's what we've decided to do:

The car is currently in paint getting some minor body work done, and the top will be painted with a matte black finish.

I just ordered some 18" and 19" Rushforth Rated X wheels which will have a matte black center and a gloss black lip along with some Kumho tires. I bounced around with a few of the designs but kept going back to the Rated X.

While I was at it, Jon recommended some Speedtech control arms along with some QA1 adjustable Coil over shocks.

I also ordered some Modo Innovations Pedals.

In the future, I would like to like to upgrade the brakes to some Baer Big Brakes all the way around.

As I said before, I'm fairly new to the car game and would like to give a special thanks to Driverz Inc. as they were extremely helpful and answer the hundreds... no thousands of questions I had. I highly recommend them. Anyways... I attached some pics... Some are kind of crappy as I took them with my phone... I will post better ones when I get a new camera and as the car progresses. Thanks for checking it out and the great forum.

Welcome. Cool car. Nice color huh Jody! Love that body style, smooth, fast and easy to manuever inside at a drive in movie, if you know what I mean!!

The WidowMaker 11-12-2008 11:44 AM

That car is just "tight". Doors shut well, trunk and hood close well, and its just fun to drive. No annoying tinging noises or rattles (Adrian's laughing right now cuz we spent a whole weekend working out the rattles in my 55.)

We're installing some Speedtech control arms, uppers and lowers on the car, with a QA1 coilover set up. Car already has a complete Hotchkis suspension rear. Should ride pretty well. In case anyone doesn't already know, we're SpeedTech dealers.

He's also going to be rocking some Felser billet hinges here shortly too!

Car should be pretty wicked looking when its done, matte black on blue, with gloss black trim and bumpers and matte black Rated X's with a gloss black lip. My painter should have it done by Sunday. Night Train describes it well!

Adrian also forgot to mention it has a full JL Audio set up with a 10" sub in the rear, with a cd changer and head unit from Custom Auto Sound. He got a smoking deal on that car.

Keep posting photos as we/you go... It's a great example of taking a plain Jane car and turning it into a real head turner.

And of course, we're just glad to help!

Welcome, I really like that year of Chevelle as well. Should look awesome with the Rushforth wheels.

razorcr 11-12-2008 03:57 PM

Thanks for helping with the specs Jon... I forget all that stuff....:)

jbutlr 11-12-2008 04:45 PM

Best year of the Chevelle!! Cant wait to see how it turns out. With all that black, I have a couple old Slayer albums you can crank while building it! :woot:

Welcome to the site and looks like a fun project we actually have a 67 chevelle in paint right now and will post some shots of it up here soon. I like the 67 but the 70 is still my favorite. If you need any help with parts let us know we have hood hinges, trunk hinges and several other parts. Jon can help you out with anything you might want.

razorcr 11-12-2008 10:12 PM

Thanks Chris! Already have a set of hood hinges on their way;)

Ok... Ok... You got me... Thanks for the great compliment Justin! We just got the car out of paint last week Saturday, and we had a ton of stuff to do! Jon literally brought the car over on Sunday, and we started doing the upgrades to get ready for the John Force Holiday show yesterday... We had the bumpers powdercoated, replaced the front Upper and lower control arms along with some new coil over shocks (Speedtech and QA1), put on new billet hinges (Fesler), new 18 and 19" wheels and tires (Rushforth and Nitto), New racing pedals (Modo), replaced the steering wheel (Shutt) and all of the little detail work. Needless to say, it's been a long week of late nights to get it done. I can't thank Jon from Driverz Inc enough... Not only did he help me get all the parts, he helped put in the hours to make it a reality and cruise the car to the show. I will let the pictures speak for themselves... Not completely done, but a long ways from where we started.

GHOSTDANCER 12-08-2008 10:25 PM

I really like the two tone. Very sharp

70TWO NOVA 12-09-2008 10:24 AM

dang! that looks sick. Iam really digging the two tone also.
Sharp looking car!

Rybar 12-09-2008 01:45 PM

Wow, car looks sharp! Really like the two tone, wheels and stance.

DriverzInc 12-10-2008 04:24 PM

Adrian and I got pulled over in it this last weekend when we were leaving Cars and Coffee in Irvine. She said it was because we didn't have a front license plate, but I think she was hitting on us.....

The only thing we had in the garage was a SS plate so we spray bombed it for now.

Car drives like a bat out of hell, and handles awesome with the SpeedTech uppers and lowers and coilovers. Very happy with the car thus far.

Bad94 12-10-2008 05:45 PM

I love the look.

Jon, how do i get you to work on cars for me?

GHOSTDANCER 12-10-2008 07:06 PM

Found a pic. The more I look the more I like

Ronny 12-11-2008 06:50 AM

I did see the car in person before you started on it, and it was a really nice car to start with.

Ended up really nice

The WidowMaker 12-11-2008 10:51 AM

the end result is friggin sweet. now you just need some huge brakes behind those wheels...... i think you know who could set you up with a set

Tim

razorcr 12-11-2008 03:15 PM

Thanks for all the great compliments... Just to clarify... I think the cop was really checking me out and just humoring Jon... HA HA :P

jbutlr 12-11-2008 04:16 PM

You probably had a chance with the cop until she saw that you and Jon were holding hands!!

DriverzInc 12-11-2008 04:51 PM

Bad94: Just send them to me! ;)

JButlr: That's f'd up man. What's missing from that picture is the stripper we picked up that can't be seen as she's "working".

Thanks for all the compliments on the car. Tim, we will be doing some big brakes on the car. Baer debuted their new big 4 piston at SEMA, and we plan to use it. I'm having a hard time finding a stock spindle for this car, everyone has their freakin drop spindles for it, but no stockers. I've been working with Mark at SC&C and from what it sounds like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

No comments on the "Rushforth Wheels" pinstripe on the wheel lips yet... I'm surprised. I thought for sure someone would have something to say about those. I wanted to draw more attention to where the tire and the wheel lip meet to brake up all the black.

The WidowMaker 12-11-2008 07:02 PM

original used or new stock spindle or stock fitting with improved geometry (ats)?

i actually thought i saw a stripe on the wheels, but i guess it really wasnt showing up to well on my monitor. i like that idea though.

Tim

olds87 12-11-2008 07:13 PM

I thought rear wheels have rushforth on the side, but a real nice job you guys did there.

I'd take original used. I can blast it and powder coat it. That would be fine.

Trust me that would only happen in IRVINE (front license plate) did three other cop cars show up too? I have to laugh, I lived in Irvine for a few years, and they would pull someone over for a blinker violation and 4 other squads would show up! .... but it was voted safest city in america a time or two!

cool car btw, looks like the rear wheel caught a little curb rash, ouch!

Its not curb rash, its a sticker along the outer lip of the wheel that says Rushforth wheels.

:

It's funny they get you for that, but fail to write you for no wipers or side view mirrors. Seems petty but hey they have very little crime in Irvine. I think it was voted "Safest Big City for the fourth year in a row". Maybe the cops are that good or maybe it's all the smart foreigner's going to UCI ;)

The WidowMaker 12-12-2008 05:24 PM

jon - ive got my stock 70 spindles, just not sure if theyll work on that 67. i may have another buyer lined up though.

Irvine is not as safe as they say. ive been on TC's were they claim that they are not in their jurisdiction, especially if its a dui or doa. ive also seen them tell our arson investigators that its their opinion that the fire wasnt arson, but rather an electrical issue. they try REALLY hard.

Tim-
You a firefighter? I just recently "retired" after 13 years when I moved here from back east... Really miss it...

Tom-
She missed all that stuff because she was distracted by me... I mean the car... No... She was distracted by me... LOL :D
