ATS 50/50 Camaro
There is finally an end to long tale of what happened to 50/50. I moved the car out of my garage in August to a storage spot down the street. The plan was to un-clutter my shop, and get some good useable space in my house. I went to grab a mock up display there last night and to my surprise my unit no longer had a lock on it.
I bet you can guess what I'm about to say next. http://i33.tinypic.com/xarmo2.jpg So I roll up the sliding bay door to take peak and my heart sinks. 50/50 has been stolen. It looks like a bomb went off inside my storage unit. They took the car, the body kit, the HRE wheels, the drivetrain; everything but some old displays from SEMA, a tool box full of hardware and a few chairs. Even better than that was there is another 68 RS/SS sitting on a trailer OUTSIDE 14 feet from my unit that was left alone http://i37.tinypic.com/260u34z.jpg I called the police, who told me to come down and file a report (they wouldn't even send a unit over to dust for prints) called the storage space manager to have them review the security tapes and went home. Got a call this morning that it was stolen by flatbed over 3 weeks ago around 4pm in the afternoon. Even have pics of the truck and guys who took it. I have little hope that it will be recovered as anything but a shell, and I can kiss those HRE wheels good bye. Keep your eyes peeled though, and call my shop if you have seen or heard anything about it. That car and period of my life is dead to me now. I don't really want it back anymore now that it has been ransacked and mistreated by yet another group of people. From here on out just leave this car be. I don't want to talk about it ever again. Thanks for letting me vent. Tyler |
Dude that really sucks. :(
|
Man that sucks.
Tyler,
I'm sorry to hear about that, it really breaks my heart. I could not imagine having my car stolen. I've heard nothing but good things about you, and no one deserves that. Again, I am really sorry, and I wish you the best. Chris |
I was so happy to see your post until I opened it and read what had happened. My heart is still just below my stomach! I was going through some pictures that I got from Wayne Due (from years back) a couple of weeks ago and found pictures of your car and was going to ask you where you were at with it.
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss! Did you get the license of the truck? Man my heart goes out to you. I will keep an eye out for you and will get the word out through friends. I can't tell you how bad I feel for you. I hope they catch the people responsible and they get what is coming to them. |
Sorry bro....same thing happened to my first 68. Storage unit and the lock was cut off. Never..ever put my car in one. If anybody does, make damn sure you drop it off late at night and don't tell a sole where it is. I know mine was an inside job.

NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
:willy: Suck's man... maybe it's for the best though, so you can move on. Still, it's not the way the story should have ended :( |
What a gut wrencher!
Obviously someone seen you put it in the storage unit. It's either someone connected to the storage place or someone with a unit next to yours that watched you bring it in. No other possible way for someone to know. Does the storage place have insurance? Either way, I hope you get some money back. Rich |

I'm looking at Ebay auctions right now for the wheels as well as craigslist for anything that might be coming off my car. Life goes on I guess. I'm still not fully grasping the situation; I'm in a slight bit of shock. Tyler |
That is anything but cool! :(
|
Like I said on the phone earlier my friend, anything I can do to help just let me know. It sucks that some **** would do something like this.
|
Man Tyler this sucks I remember when I frist was looking at getting into PT and 50/50 was one of the cars that made me want to go in this direction. REALLY SORRY BRO:(
|
damn!!!
i saw the post and thought cool the 69 must have sold and now theres room to start back up on 50/50 then opened and sat here with an open jaw for the last couple minutes... im so sorry tyler, thats a horrible thing to happen to such a good person. something about that car attracts just attracts trouble for you... again so sorry to hear this crap! |
Dude that is the worst! Remember our Karma talk those guys are f**ked!
|
So sorry to here this!
Nothing worse than a thief !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I would bet it's someone connected to that storage place.
For the cops to not dust for prints tells you how much they really give a ****. I would call the watch commander and demand they dusted for prints. The only good thing is you and 50/50 are so well know in the industry. It's not going to be easy for someone to sell the car whole or in parts. I highly doubt these guys are professionals. Rich |
It is going to be real hard for anyone to do anything with it, it is just a little easy to spot. Maybe someone will finsih it and you will get it back!
Good luck man. And you sounded like you were in such a good mood when we talked earlier! |

Tyler, that really sucks bad. We'll be watching eBay and Craig's list like hawks for recognizable parts.
Sorry man. - Kevin |
I am so sorry, Dude. I know how long you've been pouring your heart into it and as sad as it was to read your last sentences, you're already coming out the other side.
|
Tyler, is there a reward?
|
I think I saw a truck with cali plates in lost wages and it had a trailer
I think it had a big trailer. Mick |
How dry is it in Lost Wages?
Mick |
I was looking at the "67 Camaro at IronWorks" post
post #178, fourth picture down, what's that in the background? Mick |
We've been snookered
|
Rodger. How could you borrow Tyler's Camaro and not tell him? Don't you have enough Camaros in your shop right now?

"Another group of people" "Keep your eyes peeled though" I'm peeled for another group of people Mick |
dude that sucks. sorry to here that man. i'll definitely going to keep my eyes open for it! that would be like getting my honda stolen out of my garage http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...Weekend174.jpg
i can't imagine getting her stolen. sorry man. |
Tyler, that just sucks! Times are strange when thieves are stealing cars that are not up and running yet! How in the hell would they know to look in your storage unit? Plus another Camaro is in plain open sight and they don't touch that one! Man this stuff just pisses me off!
|
Sad story..I remember when this project started many years ago in camaros.net...those were the days...;) What is the idea of those storages at the first place if they are not even guarded ???
|
It sucks your car got stolen but the cops never dust for prints unless a person is hurt or killed.Stolen cars they don't care about insurance is for that.
|
MAN!!!!
Sorry for the loss my man. There are a lot of scumbags out there. I cannot believe they had the balls to rip it off in broad daylight?!? Sounds like they were either watching you load the bay or it was an inside job??:( GOOD LUCK with everything.:lateral: |
Tyler I can not imagine what you are going through and I fully understand not wanted to talk about it. Two things, I hope you had insurance on the car or maybe go after the storage unit as they have it on tape. I hope you can find the truck your self and have a little fun with the guys with the tools you have left over. People that do this stuff should be shot and removed from our country.
Hold your head high and move on as you stated. The only thing that will make this any better is to get the car back complete or catch the guys that did it. |
Holy **** man, I just dont know what to say...that is just unbelievable....wow..I wish you luck...and keep us updated..

Man....Sorry to hear this. I know I was pissed at the world when my old Mustang was stolen from the guy I SOLD it to....I had the car for 13 years and turned every bolt on it and someone stole it and I know they cut it up. In my case I still watch for parts as the interior was a one-off and there are many other parts on the car that can be identified as I marked them. The car even had LoJack and an alarm....It was 2 years last month. Even though I no longer owned the car I had such a personal attachment to it that I'd probably severly hurt someone if I found the parts on their car. I felt that way and no longer owned the car....it's a personal violation for a car guy to have a car stolen from him...you've put a lot of yourself into the car.
Someone HAD to know it was there!!! There is no other way around it. Hopefully there becomes a happy ending here but in the meantime many people watching for parts is the best set of eyes you can have. I can understand wanting to be done with it but I have a hard time letting a thief get away with something.....thieves are dirtbags and deserve to be beaten within an inch of their lives! Good luck! |
If that is not your car at Roger's shop
Than I am truely sorry. If it is, good joke.
If it is not, check with your homeowner's insurance carrier. If the car is in parts it is not considered a car...it is considered personal property. The car itself would not be covered, but if the wheels and motor/trans were not attached to the car, they would be or any other piece not attached. Personal property is covered anywhere in the world...including that storage unit. |
sorry to hear that ,if they catch them i hope they cut off their balls. i'd get a lawyer and sue the storage place. they might only cover you for 10k but i'm sure they have a larger liability policy you could go after for negligence in not providing better security. i put lojack in mine.
|
Tyler, that sucks!!!! Hope you get the guys that took it.
