Friday filler thread: How many countries have you been to?
In talking with the guys like Nigel, Jahn and others from Europe... and how we have members from Australia, China, Canada, England, Sweden, etc, it made me wonder who here is the most traveled. Also, what's the worst country to drive in? I've been told Ireland is a VERY tough place to drive.
Personally, I've in 3 different countries. US, CA, and Mexico. I'm a real world traveler. lol |
I have only been to Canada for about 6 hours when I was 10. Other than that I have never been out of the US.
|
Well, I live in Wales in Great Britain lol, & I've even driven in England & Scotland !!!! Never driven abroad but looking forward to driving in the good 'ole US of A when we come out next year
|
Only one besides the US, I've been to Thailand.
I wish I had a video of a cab ride in Bangkok, the NASCAR boys could take a few lessons from these dudes... |
Not traveled very much.
Only been to Jamacia, and the Bahamas. One honeymoon to each place. I might have to a divorce again and remarry so I can travel to someplace else. Just kidding |

I walked across the border to Mexico a couple years ago and vowed I would never do that again. Otherwise I have never left. Mike |
Used to spend a lot of time from around 1990 to 96 at Ford Europe site at Palmela, Potugal. It was cool because Estoril is not far away and there always seemed to be something going on there. Otherwise, the only other notable is Japan, where I have been 5 times since 1988. By far, it's my favorite foreign country to visit (as long as I'm not paying!)
|
I've been to England, Scotland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Netherlands, Monaco. I think thats all.
|
I've never left the U.S.
Heck, the farthest west I've ever gone is Sioux Falls S.D. |
Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, Conch Republic, oh yeah, and California!
|
USA and Canada here. :)
|
Well the military has taken me to places like,
U.S., Canada,U.K. Scotland, Spain, Saudia Arabia(10 times), Iraq, Germany, Greenland, Iceland, France(Paris), Belgium, Amsterdam I would have to say I hated driving in Spain the most. Scott |
I hit the countries on my honeymoon back in 96. It was too much!
United Kingdom (London) France Italy Germany Switzerland Belgium I have also been to Mexico (Tijuana).....It sucked!! Don't Go! & Bermuda (great place to visit). Oh, and I've been to CA (San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles) and most of the other states. :) |
England, Mexico, Canada, and of course....
Alabama. :D |
I never gave it much thought.....but here goes.
1) United States 2) Canada 3) Mexico 4) Pureto Rico 5) Dominican Republic 6) St. Johns 7) Guadeloup 8) St. Lucia 9) Grenada 10) Argentina 11) England 12) Ireland 13) Norway 14) Netherlands 15) Germany 16) France 17) Austria 18) Czech Republic 19) Poland 20) Russia 21) Egypt 22) Saudi Arabia 23) United Arab Emirates 24) China 25) Japan 26) Thailand 27) Malaysia 28) Singapore 29) Indonesia 30) Australia 31) India (next month) also could be going to Italy and Indonesia again before the end of the year .......not bad for a South Dakota boy that moved to the city.....life in the oil & gas business. W. |
My list is pretty long too:
Denmark Norway Finland Germany Austria Switzerland Lichtenstein Italy San Marino France Monaco Spain Belgium Netherlands Iceland England Poland Canada And of course USA Jan |
Hmm.... I guess I could say that I've left the country. I went to Vancouver, BC when I was 17, but didn't drive there. Wish I did. Would have saved a year off my life from my mom's driving. I also went to Guatemala. Once. When I was 6 months old. If I drove there, I don't remember it.
Come on down to Downtown San Francisco. You'll see some of the worst driving in the world there, and you'll be forced to do the same. I hate going there. I'd rather drive through Arizona and New Mexico again than drive through San Francisco as much as I have to. |
U.S.
Guam (US terroritory) Canada Mexico England Germany Italy Crete (I think its a country) Baharian Singapore Quatar Diego Garcia (British Indian Ocean Terrority, you could count it as part of England if ya wanted) Iraq All thanks to the lovely US Airforce |

My travels
OK- my turn... This could take a while. Uncle S. Has sent me to many of these places over the last 17+ years.
1 United States 2 Canada (does Kay-Beck count as another country yet???) 3 Greenland 3a- A few trips above the artic circle (out of Greenland and Iceland) 4 Iceland 5 Norway 6 Sweden 7 Denmark 8 Belgium 9 Netherlands 10 Germany 11 France 12 Spain 13 Switzerland 14 Austria 15 Bosnia 16 Croatia (flew over Albania & Macedonia) 17 Greece (+Crete) 18 Italy (Sicily, Naples, Rome + Sardinia) 19 UK- Scotland and "the lower half" 20 Ireland 21 Turkey 22 Cyprus 23 Jordan 24 Israel 25 Saudi Arabia 26 Bahrain 27 Qatar 28 UAE 29 Egypt 30 Iraq 31 Afghanistan 32 Oman (Misirah) 33 Somalia (was there for "BHD" note: the ****tiest place on earth 34 Ethiopia 35 Djibouti 36 Kenya 37 Rwanda / Burundi 38 Diego Garcia (a brit possesion) 39 Seychelles (French possesion in the IO) 40 Senegal (Dakar) 41 Liberia 42 Mali (central Africa) 43 Algeria 44 Morocco 45 Brazil 46 Chile 47 Peru 48 Colombia 49 Ecuador 50 Curacao (Dutch holding N of venezuela) 51 Panama 52 Costa Rica (beee-U-tiful, and great surf) 53 El Salvador 54 Guatemala 55 Mexico, of course! I lived in CA within sight of the border for 12+ yrs... 56 Haiti 57 Dominican Republic 58 Puerto Rico 59 Just about every island in the Carribean chain 60 Cuba, but only on 'our' part (Gitmo) And now for Asia- 61 Japan 62 Okinawa (if that doesn't count as part of Japan, which it shouldn't) 63 Thailand 64 Malaysia 65 Singapore 66 Australia- THE place I would be a citizen if ever kicked outa' the US. 67 New Zeland 68 Indonesia (Bali) 69 Hong Kong (pre & post 97 turnover) 70 Philippines (lotsa' time there) 71 Guam (yeah, US, but kinda not if you look at how much the Japanese own) 72 Wake ISle (US) 73 S. Korea ... and a bunch of other islands that belong to Us, The Brits, or the French. |
Wow!! How do you remember all that? I think it's easy to say that we have a new winner.
|
Yes that would be hard to beat. It is almost half of all the countries in the world. Just the Moon left on that list.
Also the first one who had been to Sweden, except for Groovyjay who is from Finland that once was Sweden. Jan |
I can not compete with Scott, but close in terms of Asian countries. My total is a measly 23. Oh, Guam does not count- that is a US territory. ;)
My proofing may be bad here, but I think I can add a few new ones to the list- Burma (Myanmar) The true insertion point of the enema (IMO) Bangladesh Vietnam Cambodia Nepal If I were rating places on the "I feel bad for the people living there" list, Myanmar takes the cake for all I have seen. Bangladesh not far behind and India in general trailing by a hair. I can say from many years living abroad- Be proud of your country and your heritage. No matter where you are from, it is home and it is where your family is from. On the other hand, the neat thing about having Chinese parents in law is that all communication is filtered by 1- Wife or 2 – employees who work with father in law at son in law’s company. They love me; if they knew what a jerk I really am, they would likely call the police. ;) Phil |
