Could I get you guys to help me for A minute???????

I sent a gauge cluster to be retrofitted with modern internals 3 plus months ago. I sent the gauge cluster when we started final assembly. Well I have had the car togther for 1 month and I cannot get the cluster back. It would not be a big deal if it was a regular cluster but who has a 54 dodge stock cluster and Old Stewart Warner tach just laying around to Buy. I have spoken with his secratary who works on mondays, she says he has been busy filming a TV show at West Coast Customs and will finish when He gets done with that. Well when I sent him the cluster he said 1 week, Well Obviously it has been 3 plus months and I was supposed to have delivered the car for Thanksgiving. I have called at least 20 times this week alone with not a return call in Weeks. I'm going to call the Local Sheriff in Fresno on Monday. And the Customer is going have his attorney start Proceedings next week, but those all take time and Cost even more money.

So to make a long story short I would like as many people as possible to email this guy and tell him to either Do the job or just send it back to me. Maybe this will show him that The internet is a powerful and customer service and following through with your word. Can you image what 250 emails would look like in his inbox from 250 different people? The lateral-g brotherhood

His email is Removed to end mass emails

You could copy and paste this

Ironworks would like there gauge cluster either finished or returned.
Ironworks Phone number is 661 399 8999

Thanks

I should have sent the cluster to the guy who said it will take 4 months instead of the guy who said one week but took 3 plus months now.

Thanks guys.

1 sent! :D

You should call up West Coast Customs and ask for him. Start bothering him at their place of business :unibrow:

DRJDVM's '69 12-05-2008 11:42 AM

email sent...good luck....

Where is this guy located...maybe a local member could stop by... is he in Fresno ?? Thats not far from you.... drive there and get it back...

Not by force like OJ... he just went to prison for 15 years :)

ironworks 12-05-2008 11:52 AM

I have thought about that but 275lbs of 6'6" never seems like a nice friendly reminder, Plus it is 2 hours to drive to find him not there. I was there yesterday with my 48ft trailer in tow, but that is not the rig for trying circle a neighborhood. We will see what the email does. If his secratary answers on Monday I may just drive up there and go by with a Sheriff. The customer is absolutely furious. We had the 241 Hemi Rebuilt in Fresno and it took them close to 5 months to Rebuild it.

Thanks guys I will et you know how it turns out.

Wow that was quick after 4 weeks of not 1 return phone call he just called and I should have the cluster on Monday. Wow only 90 days late. We better blow the dust off the car to send her home.

Thanks guys

Rodger

jy211 12-05-2008 12:21 PM

ironworks 12-05-2008 03:04 PM

I just want it back, Done or not, We will be doing all gauge clusters in house from now on. My wiring and plumbing guy, is fed up with them and wants to start his own custom clusters and take out the outside vendor.

Hello,

I understand that you have been “working” on a ’54 Dodge cluster for the last three months and that you promised that it would be done in one week. If so then that is just wrong and very inconsiderate of other peoples need to conduct business. I’m sure you would be upset if a company you hired to do something was putting you off on a project you needed to get done for a customer.

The internet is a powerful thing and this story is spreading around. I imagine that other magazines are reading the story and figuring out what shops are unreliable for use in future editorial. I would also think it’s in your own best interest to resolve this quickly. A bad reputation is hard to get rid of.

"Hello,

I read on the internet that Ironworks Speed and Kustom had sent you a gauge cluster to work on and you told him it would take one week to finish when it has taken more than 3 months. This is completely unacceptable. Not only will I spread the word to my friends but to anyone that will listen to me the type of customer service your company has or should I say doesn’t have. This is not the way one conducts business with the intent of making a name for them selves. Please make sure that what you just promised him, returning it on Monday the 8th, comes to fruition. I’m sure you don’t want to damage your reputation any more than you already have.

John Lim"

Woah, that really worked fast! I was getting ready to send an email, but it was taken care of so quickly! Hmmm......I have a deadbeat previous employer who screwed me out of my last 3 1/2 weeks of pay then 1099'd me with over $6000.00 more than what I earned....Hmmmmm....... Just kidding!:unibrow:

ironworks 12-06-2008 01:22 AM

When I woke up with this bright idea I had no idea it would work this fast.

Let see what happens on Monday.

I hate shops and people that do this kind of thing to the industry, it really gives everyone a bad taste and makes everyone not want to trust any of us in the industry. Good luck Rodger and keep us posted

Rodger-

I hope for your sake the gauges get done this time around. Mark at Custom Rod Gauges did my gauges for my 57. It took him ...(I hope you are sitting down) 11 months to get them to me. Due to these gauge's being custom one off he said I would have to pay 100% up front - so I did. I can't tell you how many phone calls I made to him and he never returned one call. It got down to the point I was ready to take legal action. Lie after Lie and many broken promises they finally showed up after 11 months. The sad part is they make nice stuff but the heartache to get your stuff from them just isn't worth it. Now mind you this was over 4 years ago I had this problem with them. Over the past few years I heard things about them and thought maybe their custs service was getting better - then I read your story. Not that it is right - but hopefully for their sake your case is an isolated incident.

Good luck and I hope he follows through with what he said.

awr68 12-06-2008 11:34 AM

Ok, after hearing about Brent and Rodger's experiances with this guy...there's no way I would trust him!! Too bad when tallented guys just simply can't run a business properly!

Best of luck on Monday Rodger!

Well Brent then you should appreciate my approach to this situation. Just for your own info my wiring guy Jason is going to start building our own. Between Soildworks and the wiring work we do, we have now been motivated enough to just do it in house. Screw those guys who cannot get their act togther.

ironworks 12-08-2008 03:19 PM

Well I got a gauge cluster and I would have to say it probably works, We are working on testing it but the craftmanship is just junk. The new gauges are just setting on a huge glob of glue that is not even dry after 72 hours in a box. He also Included absolutely no instructions to put it togther and there are just bare wires hanging out of the clusters and no indication as to what and how they hook to the sensors he sent. I have an appointment with a psychic and palm reader to try and figure it out. I have emailed Mark and told him he has until 9am tommorrow to get me instructions before I cancel the check. I cannot believe this guy gets 1265.00 to rebuild 6 gauges. I'm in the wrong business.

I will keep you posted on the saga.

Rodger

DRJDVM's '69 12-08-2008 04:00 PM

He probably already cashed the check....

Steve1968LS2 12-08-2008 04:18 PM

I got an email back from the shop.. actually two of them (both the same)

It was a just a BIG advertisement image for thier company.. no text..

Here's what I sent back to them:

Quote:

I’m trying to figure out why you sent me an advertisement for your business when I wouldn’t possibly consider doing business with you. I will also be sending this link around to the other Editors in the building.

Here’s a review of your product by your last customer:
f'ing idiots....

camaro2nv 12-08-2008 04:25 PM

This kind of stuff really stinks! Props to you guys that spent the time to email this guy.

ironworks 12-08-2008 04:41 PM

The gauges were paid COD. I Paid for them today with a business check. So the check has not even left Bakersfield yet. Plus I use a local bank so he could not just walk right into a bank and cash it. It would take him either a 2 hour drive or a few days to cash the check or a check cashing store I suppose.

Here is the email I sent him
Well since you forgot to include any instruction on how any of this hooks up, you have until 9am tommorrow to either fax of email me some instructions before I put a stop payment on the check I sent you. I attempted a phone call at 1:58 on 12/8/2008 There was no answer and the answering machine did not pick up so I was unable to leave a message. There is info on how to set up the speedo but nothing on what wire goes where or what connects to what. A stop payment will be made at 9am on 12/9/2008 My fax number is 661 399-7999. Rodger Lee Ironworks Speed & Kustom

After I sent this email is when Jason my wiring and assembly specialist told about the quality or lack there of in the gauges. He responded to my email with the same glossy flyer and no written response. I will cancel the check at 9am tommorrow if no responce.

The drama continues.

Rodger

camaro2nv 12-08-2008 04:58 PM

So Im guessing the response is a auto response?

Sounds like something I wouldn't minds seeing!

Sorry to hear all this Rodger...I guess it's time to do it yourself!

ironworks 12-08-2008 06:33 PM

We have already begun. I would like to get this car out of here that was supposed to leave 3 weeks ago.

skatinjay27 12-08-2008 09:35 PM

i got the add email from them also.

Flash68 12-08-2008 09:57 PM

I just got the advertisement email as well.

Replied with the standard "REMOVE" in the subject line and then asked to remove me from their junk emailing list.

Dumbasses.

trapin 12-09-2008 06:17 AM

Are we allowed to say what the name of this company is? I would like to know so that I don't accidentally go to them in the future.

The internet is a powerful tool, and I am grateful for how it can be used to keep people honest. I just wish it had been around when I was a kid getting into this hobby in the 80's. Would have made my life a LOT easier.

cencal69 12-09-2008 09:21 AM

I just read this. Very dissapointing. I live in Clovis, but my shop is in Fresno. If there is anything I can do to help, let me know. Kind of ironic that the guy who has the shop next door to me does instrament panel repair. He just does the late model electronic stuff though.

Again, if there is anything I can do, let me know. Wish I had read this sooner.
