68 Mustang from the Philippines
I retired 5 years ago. So I have sometime doing cars that I would like.
It was then the height of the Eleanor craze so I tried to do one. I found a good body that cost me about $1000. Since buying the Eleanor kit and shipping it to the Philippines will be very expensive so I did everything in steel. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/158/3...4135cf4d5a.jpg |
I wanted to put the largest Ford engine and I found a 460 for $500. To ease installation I opted to remove the shock towers and move the engine 10 inches to the rear.
And since moving the engine 10 inches to the rear will live a large void in front so I tried fitting 4 small turbos. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/155/3...bde6b714b5.jpg Please understand that this project will be done using 2nd hand parts to be cheap, since performance parts are very expensive in the Philippines. |
Another shot of the engine bay with 4 turbos, 2 intercoolers , pipes are custom built. Oil and water supply for the turbos will be a dedicated system and separate from the engine.

I also found a complete C4 Corvette suspension and adapted it to the Mustang.
Surprisingly, it was a fit! http://farm1.static.flickr.com/123/3...a4f7ab948e.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/142/3...88ec5a87e4.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/184/4...a669622800.jpg |
Here are the steel conversion photos.

looks good, but why are there pics of 2 different cars?
|
Since everything south of the engine will be moved 10 inches also, I did a six point roll bar and made a custom dash.

The floors are all rusted up so I decided to remove the floor boards and do a space frame backbone.

The car has been turned to a true 2-seater.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...PICT0005-1.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...PICT0004-1.jpg |
Overhead console mounted on the roll cage.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...n/PICT0008.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...n/PICT0007.jpg |
Emergency brake and late Mustang shifter, now mounted.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...n/PICT0011.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...n/PICT0010.jpg |
The engine bay is now very crowded so I need to go to hydroboost and mount it 90 degrees offset.

Hi Jake, the gray fastback is now the white car below.
The one in yellow primer is my personal car. These two cars, I did for two friends. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...n/PICT0263.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/77/36...b56a394de7.jpg Home made rear. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/166/3...b7c69325b3.jpg Eaton supercharger, adapted to a 460. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/162/3...c805a1cf8e.jpg |

After everything is put in place, it will be disassembled and thoroughly sandblasted and painted.
I fabricated my own rotissiere. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3009/...e8e44fc6d2.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...PICT0045-1.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...n/PICT0115.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...PICT0117-1.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...PICT0116-1.jpg |
Yes Jake, the yellow car has the space frame backbone.
The white and gray, I did for two different friends. These are my other cars: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3241/...d28f686ebb.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3179/...30387e48d2.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1406/...b9287db135.jpg |
i was there last year for a short vacation. nice to hear there's much love for muscle cars over there, let alone pro-touring. :) You're hyping me up to ship my 69 when i retire!!!!

Good Job man your workmanship is killer for what you have to work with.Man I love to see more pictures.OH by the way you don't weld with those shoes.
|
Thank you for the complement. I will post some photo updates on the center console.
It is Christmas season in the Philippines and everything slows down until January 1. Incidentally, the Christmas season here starts as early as September 1 and ends January 6. By the way, we have been accustomed to wearing slippers instead of steel-toed shoes. Temperature and humidity is very high here so it is a pain to wear working clothes. We just see to it that we work safely. |
very cool project:thumbsup:
|
Being from Hawaii I know all about working in slippers. Too many ouchies though, so now I wear shoes.
Nice project. |
After another hibernation due to some other things that I have to do. I just finished the central console to complement the overhead console.

deocon,
Awesome fab work- the cars turned out beautifully. I had no idea there was such love for musclecars in the PI. BTW, are you flip? Geno |
Hi Geno,
The musclecar fever is running hot here in the Philippines. Remember that there were US Military Bases here, the Clark Air Base and the Subic Naval Base, where muscle cars abound!!! During the 1980 fuel crisis, much of the musclecars were consigned to the junkyards and some were had their engine replaced with Japanese diesel engines(yaikss). During the 1990 Pinatubo volcano explosion, some were buried in lahar. The resurgence of interest came in 2000, where we scourged the abandoned rice warehouses for good examples. Yes, I am a Filipino(flip???). And I may soon "flip" if that is what you want to know, hehehehe. |
