Air Ride or AME/DSE
I just recieved a ART catalog yesterday and have been thinking about their Street Challenge suspension system for my 67' camaro, instead of a AME C6/ 3-link or DSE sub/Quadra-link. Looking for opinions good/bad, why/why not? Travis

DSE Quadra-link
Travis, i have a 68 big block 760hp 5 speed camaro.* I have had the DSE quadralink on my car now for almost 2 years.* I am very pleased with this suspension.* I had leaf springs before with cal-tracs, the difference was night and day.* In my humble opinion whether you like hard corners or going straight real fast these guys at DSE know how to build great suspensions* .* Greg

I'm very pleased with the Airride system in the Chevelle. Very comfortable/handles awesome/ and you get the coolness factor of being able to slam the car at the push of a button. Not to mention that I've yet to find someone with better customer service. The ART guys are awesome.
Lateral Dynamics 3 link: I think there has yet to be a more capable rear end setup on the market then the LD 3 link. It performs awsome, and looks downright nasty. I think it would be cool to try out some Shockwaves with the 3link. I've not had any real experience with the DSE stuff or AM but From what I heard they are both very capable setups. I do know that they look good. I guess what your gonna have to figure out is how crazy do you wanna go with the car. Goodluck |
Wow! I had no idea that the vote would be this close, interesting?

Nice to see you still lurking around here, Greg! |
The DSE subframe and Quadralink worked fabulous in my 69 camaro. The big change, besides the great handling, was the quality of the ride. Alot of good option choices is a good thing.

Another product you may want to consider is our direct-fit rear clip:
http://www.artmorrison.com/albums/Ca...3208.sized.jpg Only requires you to remove your existing rear frame rails for the triangulated 4-bar clip, which you should be doing anyway if you're making any serious power. The 3-link version obviously requires some fab. Could easily be installed in one weekend. |

What's your comparison on the 3 to 4 link feel after having both in your car? |
AM is by far the best system out there for the money, I have been doing Air Ride for over 15 years and the AM set up is the best with the air ride so you get the best of both worlds.

Matt, with the 3 or 4-link what are your exhaust options? Can you still fit a turbo style muffler under the car?

The triangulated 4-bar clip will accept mufflers in the usual position, with the exhaust running inside the driveshaft tunnel. To update, the clip has performed above and beyond my expectations. The 3-link does offer more foward bite (thanks to higher anti-squat), and the handling is razor sharp with spherical rod ends. The triangulated 4-bar is more street friendly (thanks to poly rod ends), but still offers exceptional handling - the same rear suspension that pulled 1.05G in the 3G vette using undersized tires. Honestly, the handing aspect of the triangulated 4-bar combined with it's small packaging (no floor cutting required!) makes it a hands-down winner. Easier to install, easier exhaust routing, less expensive. Roll-bind is nothing to worry about...the roll stiffness is too stiff to allow it to roll that far anyway (8 degrees of roll). Something that needs to be emphasized with this clip is the chassis stiffness and ease of install. With this rear clip and subframe connectors, you now have a full box-tube frame chassis welded to the body...it doesn't get any stiffer than that until a roll cage is introduced. These .120" wall frame rails are a much welcome addition compared to the stock .040" rails (which I managed to rip apart). Install time took about as long as a front bolt-in clip. The dirty part is removing the old frame rails, but if you're putting down any power, you'll want to take those out anyway. |
I appreciate the comps between the 3 and 4 link. Will you be doing any other direct fit besides the GMs since you are using the Ferro arm measurement system? E-body Mopar and I'm signed up.....
Thanks, Wes |
Thanks Matt! Full of usefull info as always!!

I just installed their front C6 sub and triangulated 4-bar in my 68 camaro and cant believe how it fit and it only did take a weekend install. was a very dirty job even though the bottom of the car was already blasted and painted now just get to paint it again :willy: I just hope that it handles like everyone says it will.

Did you by any chance compare the stock frame rail to the new one? It's amazing how thin the stock rails are... |
Matt,
So how about the direct fit rear clip e-body Mopar? Never going to happen or maybe if....... Thanks, just looking for an honest answer to make some choices on my rear suspension. Wes |

Right now, until we make a move into our new building, we're pretty much out of room for new jig tables! Great things will happen once we make the move. |

For those considering an AirBar...you can fit a 335/35-18 tire if you use a DSE minitub. There are no modifications required on the AirBar. This is the setup we are using on Velocity.
For the exhaust...the rear axle is moved so far up into the car that it is a straight shot from the mufflers under the rearend into some custom tailpipes. Again, this is how we did the Velocity Camaro. For those using a 2.5" diameter exhaust I beleive the Frank at Prodigy has a special tailpipe available the goes over the axle for those cars. With either tailpipe setup mitering the front corners of the fuel tank makes things much easier. If you are considering a stainless tank from Ricks Hotrod Shop, he has this modification as an option on their tanks. I think DSE may do their tanks this way as well. Of course, with any gas tank setup you will need a billet gascap from Preceision Coachworks! :) |
Bret that's probably a 335/30/18 not a 35 series? ;)
